Showers possible in North Texas on Wednesday, dropping temperatures slightly
North Texans could see a few showers or storms in Wednesday afternoon as a disturbance tracks northwestward through the area.
It won't be widespread; just a lucky few will get some rain and a brief drop in temperatures with the additional cloud cover from the disturbance keeping afternoon highs a little cooler.

Some areas will top out in the upper 80s, and Dallas-Fort Worth will likely reach into the lower 90s. Keep an eye on the sky and listen for any thunder if you are hanging out at the pool.
An isolated shower is possible once again on Thursday with highs near 93 degrees.
Then on Friday and into the weekend, high pressure builds in overhead and temperatures will once again warm up.
Triple-digit high temperatures aren't expected, but some areas will reach the upper 90s.

Disruptive snow is expected to fall in parts of the Eastern Cape, while heavy rain, damaging winds and waves are expected to persist in parts of the Western Cape, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS). Damaging winds are forecast over Free State, parts of the Northern Cape and northwestern parts of KwaZulu-Natal. Impact-based warnings - Yellow Level 4 warning for damaging waves resulting in damage to coastal infrastructure and disruption to beachfront activities along the coast between Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay. - Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging coastal winds resulting in localised disruption of small harbours and/or ports for a short period of time, small vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing and difficulty in navigation between Port Edward and Cape Vidal as well as between Cape Agulhas and East London. - Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging waves resulting in damage to coastal infrastructure and disruption to beachfront activities along the coast between Plettenberg Bay and East London. - Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging interior winds leading to localised problems for high-sided vehicles on prone routes and some transport services affected by wind is expected over Free State, the southeastern parts of the Northern Cape and northwestern parts of KwaZulu-Natal as well as along the coast and adjacent interior of the Eastern Cape between Plettenberg Bay and East London. - Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rainfall leading to localised flooding of susceptible formal and informal settlements or roads, and low-lying areas over Cederberg, City of Cape Town, Cape Winelands, and the western parts of the Overberg District (Western Cape) in the morning. - Yellow Level 1 warning for disruptive snow resulting in traffic disruption due to icy roads, isolated loss of vulnerable livestock and crops over the Senqu and Elundini local municipalities of the Eastern Cape. In the SAWS' colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation. SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low. 128 million Americans under heat advisories as scorching temperatures break records
About 128 million Americans from Louisiana to Maine are under heat advisories Wednesday amid a severe heat wave impacting much of the U.S. But some are expected to get some relief starting Thursday. Dozens of record high temperatures were set Tuesday across the Northeast. Triple-digit temperatures hit tourists and New Yorkers alike on Tuesday as Central Park set a record high temperature for June 24 of 99 degrees. "It feels like an armpit out here," New York personal trainer Marvin Martinez said. A couple visiting New York City from Georgia said they shortened their sightseeing, taking frequent breaks at their hotel. A young girl said she was trying to stay cool by turning up the air conditioning and "going into different stores to get more AC." Boston broke its record daily high by six degrees, reaching 101 degrees on Tuesday. Some construction workers were forced to leave their jobs early. In Norfolk, Massachusetts, two firefighters were hospitalized for heat exhaustion after battling a house fire. Farther south in Charlotte, North Carolina, fans hoping to enjoy a club World Cup soccer match were faced with a different opponent — the sweltering sun. "You just gotta grin and bear it and deal with it and stay hydrated," said Matthew Jackson, a Florida resident at the match. The Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia, issued a "Black Flag Warning," canceling all non-essential outdoor physical activity. It felt like 103 degrees in the area Tuesday. And the excessive heat is creating a strain on the power grid. Tens of thousands of people were without electricity on Tuesday. Future forecast CBS News meteorologist Nikki Nolan said temperatures are expected to be 10-20 degrees above average Wednesday before a cold front brings some relief to the Northeast.
