Tripura: Two Bangladeshi nationals, tout held for illegal entry in Agartala
Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 28 (ANI): Two Bangladeshi nationals were detained in Agartala during routine patrolling for illegally entering India through the state borders, police said.
The two accused, identified as Aklima Akhtar and Ruma Sheikh. Police also mentioned that a tout has also been arrested, who has been identified as Krishna Deb Nath.
'During the routine patrolling, we have detained 2 Bangladeshi nationals who have illegally entered India. We have also arrested one of the touts, Krishna Dev Nath, who has helped them. The two women who have been detained are Aklima Akhtar and Ruma Sheikh... We have received intelligence reports indicating that more people have entered the country illegally, and we are conducting a search operation to apprehend them. Those who are detained will be sent to the Court for police remand,' Officer-in-Charge, East Agartala PS, Rana Chatterjee told ANI.
Meanwhile, in Maharashtra on Wednesday, three Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended in a joint operation of the Military Intelligence unit of the Southern Command of the Indian Army and the MIDC Police Station in Ahilyanagar.
The Bangladeshi nationals were illegally residing and working in the region for the past two years using forged Indian documents.
Acting on specific intelligence provided by the Military Intelligence unit of Southern Command, authorities raided a construction site at Mouli Crusher in Pokhardi, under the jurisdiction of MIDC Police Station, and detained the three individuals.
The immigrants had been working as labourers and had assumed false Indian identities with fake Aadhaar and PAN cards.
According to officials, the trio had been living in Ahilyanagar for two years and had blended into the local population using forged identification to evade detection. Their questioning is currently underway to determine if they have any links to anti-national elements (ANEs) or broader illegal immigration networks.
A senior officer from the investigation team said, 'We suspect more such illegal immigrants may be residing in various parts of Ahilyanagar and across Maharashtra. This operation could lead to wider revelations as the inquiry progresses, further investigations are underway'.
On the same day, in a successful joint operation, the Southern Command Military Intelligence Unit and Kondhwa Police Station of Pune City Police apprehended four illegal immigrants from Bangladesh residing in a labour camp near Punyadham Ashram Road, Notting Hill Society, Pune. (ANI)

Retd IVRI scientist loses ₹1.29 crore in cyber fraud
Jun 28, 2025 06:46 PM IST A recently retired senior scientist from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly has been allegedly defrauded of ₹ 1.29 crore by cybercriminals impersonating law enforcement officers, police said. Inspector Dinesh Kumar Sharma said an FIR has been registered and efforts are on to trace the accused. (For representation) The victim, a researcher originally from West Bengal and residing with his family in government accommodation on the IVRI campus, stated in his complaint that he received a WhatsApp call on June 17 from someone claiming to be a Bengaluru police officer. Confirming the case, inspector Dinesh Kumar Sharma said an FIR has been registered and efforts are on to trace the accused and freeze the accounts involved. According to the FIR lodged a week later at the cyber crime police station, the caller claimed the scientist's Aadhaar card had been misused to obtain SIM cards linked to serious crimes, including human trafficking and employment scams. The caller further alleged that a man named Sadakat Khan had been arrested and had taken the scientist's name during interrogation. The scientist was then asked to contact another number, purportedly belonging to CBI officer Daya Nayak. When he did, another fraudster posing as Nayak claimed that illegal funds had been deposited into the scientist's bank accounts. The victim was told to transfer all his savings to a 'safe government account' for verification. He was assured the funds would be returned after the investigation. Fearing arrest and under psychological pressure, the scientist complied, transferring ₹ 1.29 crore. He did not inform even his family and remained silent until a bank manager's persistent questioning prompted him to rethink.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Friday took suo motu cognisance of the incident. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar expressed deep concern and wrote to the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, urging a time-bound investigation under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In her letter, Rahatkar demanded full medical, psychological, and legal support for the survivor and requested that authorities ensure compensation is provided under Section 396 of the BNSS. Four Arrests Earlier, the police had arrested three accused within 24 hours; they are named as Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20), who were former students or staff members of the same law college. On Saturday, Kolkata Police also arrested the guard of the South Calcutta Law College. Political Row The alleged gangrape has triggered a political row between the leaders of the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP. While, BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh demanded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's immediate resignation on Saturday, over the alleged Kolkata gang rape case. Speaking to ANI, Ghosh said, "This incident reveals the character of TMC, their thoughts towards women. I demand the immediate resignation of Mamata Banerjee as the CM of West Bengal. Under her rule, no one is safe." On the other hand, BJP leader Amit Malviya, in a post on X, alleged that one of the accused, Mishra, has ties with TMC.

The 42-year-old actor-model was brought to the hospital on Friday, where she was declared dead on arrival. 'When I met her last time…': Ever since the news of Shefali Jariwala's untimely death broke, actors, others from the entertainment industry have expressed their condolences. 'We met at an event in Chandigarh. She had a very lively heart. And when I met her last time, she looked very happy. She was glowing. Her eyes looked as if you were looking at two shining diamonds,' actor Raza Murad told ANI. Paras Chhabra predicted Shefali's death?
