Athletics place C Shea Langeliers (oblique) on IL

June 6 - The Athletics placed catcher Shea Langeliers on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left oblique strain. Langeliers was injured during a sixth-inning at-bat in a 14-3 win over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. He grabbed his left side after fouling off a pitch. Catcher Jhonny Pereda was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. The Athletics also recalled outfielder Seth Brown from Las Vegas and designated outfielder Drew Avans for assignment. Langeliers, 27, is batting .237 with 10 homers and 27 RBIs in 56 games this season. Langeliers set career highs of 29 homers and 80 RBIs in 2024. He has a .219 average with 67 homers and 192 RBIs in 368 games over three-plus major league seasons. Pereda, 29, was 6-for-36 (.167) with two RBIs in 16 games with the Athletics earlier in the season. He achieved a level of fame on May 15 when he struck out Shohei Ohtani while mopping up a 19-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Brown, 32, batted .212 with one homer and three RBIs in 33 games with the Athletics earlier this season. He was outrighted to Las Vegas on May 25. BREAKING NEWS Simone Biles gets personal in nasty attack on Riley Gaines for criticizing trans athletes

USA Olympic hero Simone Biles has launched a withering attack on Riley Gaines, after the former swimmer criticized a Minnesota high school softball team for competing with a trans player. Gaines, 25, has forged a career as a political commentator for OutKick and Fox following a swimming career where she competed against trans swimmer Lia Thomas. Her campaigning has won praise from Donald Trump, who welcomed her to the White House before he signed the 'Keeping Men out of Women's Sports' executive order. On Friday, she retweeted a picture of Minnesota team Champlin Park celebrating their state high school title that they won with transgender pitcher Marissa Rothenberger on the team. 'Comments off lol,' Gaines wrote in response to the post. 'To be expected when your star player is a boy.' It sparked a blistering response from Biles, who first criticized Gaines' view and then compared her appearance to a man. Biles wrote: 'You're truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. 'You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! 'But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!' She then tweeted at Gaines again, saying: 'Bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male.' Gaines replied: 'This is actually so disappointing. It's not my job or the job of any woman to figure out how to include men in our spaces. 'You can uplift men stealing championships in women's sports with YOUR platform. Men don't belong in women's sports and I say that with my full chest.' She continued: 'My take is the least controversial take on the planet. Simone Biles being a male-apologist at the expense of young girls' dreams? Didn't have that on my bingo card. Maybe she could compete in pommel horse and rings in 2028.' Gaines then addressed Biles mocking her appearance, saying: 'And the subtle hint at "body-shaming" ???? Plzzzz I'm 5'5".' Biles also gave a savage reply to a Trump voter that wrote back to her: 'Simone, there is a reason they have rings in men's gymnastics, and not women's. Male athletes have a biological advantage over female athletes. That will never changes.' Biles wrote back: 'Can you even read? I see we are lacking comprehension skills as well…..'

Diamondbacks ace Corbin Burnes to have Tommy John surgery

June 6 - Corbin Burnes will undergo Tommy John surgery, Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo revealed Friday. Burnes injured his right (throwing) elbow Sunday against the Washington Nationals and left during the fifth inning. He was placed on the injured list Tuesday with what was termed elbow inflammation. Lovullo told reporters that Burnes' surgery will take place next week. "It was a lot of information, a lot of fast-moving information, a lot of people weighed in on this, and Corbin felt like this was the best decision for him to continue pushing forward," Lovullo said, adding that there was no timetable for his recovery. The Diamondbacks signed Burnes, 30, to a six-year, $210 million contract in free agency in December. Burnes won the 2021 National League Cy Young Award while with the Milwaukee Brewers and finished fifth in American League Cy Young balloting last year in his lone season with the Baltimore Orioles. The four-time All-Star finishes his first season in Phoenix 3-2 with a 2.66 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 11 starts. Burnes is 63-38 with a 3.15 ERA and 1,114 strikeouts in 210 appearances (149 starts) in eight seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers (2018-23), Baltimore Orioles (2024) and Diamondbacks (2025). --Field Level Media
