Are the Thunder the best regular-season team ever?
The Oklahoma City Thunder (63-12) have been machine-like this season. Their 145-117 win over the Chicago Bulls extended their record against Eastern Conference teams to 28-1 this season — the best record any team has ever had against the opposing conference.
They have already surpassed their previous franchise-best of 60 wins from the 2012-13 season and are just one win away from matching their all-time high of 64 wins, set in 1995-96 when they were the Seattle SuperSonics.

If the Thunder continue their current winning streak to the end of the regular season, they will become just the third team in NBA history — after the 1995-96 Bulls and 2015-16 Golden State Warriors — to hit the 70-win mark. Both of those teams reached the NBA Finals, and the Bulls lifted the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
On the latest episode of 'The Athletic NBA Daily,' Dave DuFour and Es Baraheni were joined by Anthony Slater to discuss Oklahoma's record-breaking season, whether anything short of an NBA Finals berth would be considered a disappointment for the Thunder and Lu Dort's case for Defensive Player of the Year.
Dave and Es also recapped the Lakers' crucial 104-98 win over the Houston Rockets in the nail-biting Western Conference playoff race, the Memphis Grizzlies dropping a third straight game in their 117-103 loss to the Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers' 111-109 victory against the Sacramento Kings to strengthen their hold on the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference.

Knicks rumors: 2 key people in Tom Thibodeau's corner amid calls for firing
The post Knicks rumors: 2 key people in Tom Thibodeau's corner amid calls for firing appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Knicks will feel like they missed a big opportunity to advance to the NBA Finals, as they are headed home after a 125-108 loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Knicks came into the series with home-court advantage, but two straight losses at Madison Square Garden to start the series proved to be too much to overcome. Advertisement Throughout the series, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau was searching for answers. He changed up the starting lineup, inserting Mitchell Robinson in for Josh Hart, and dug deeper into his bench with big minutes for Delon Wright and Landry Shamet. However, it wasn't enough in the end. At the end of the series, many Knicks fans continued to call for a change at the end of the bench, suggesting that Thibodeau should be fired. However, the veteran head coach has the support of both team president Leon Rose and star point guard Jalen Brunson, according to The Athletic. Despite that, the team could still choose to make a change. 'While sources say Thibs has support to return as New York's coach, James Dolan will make the final call,' The Athletic wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Advertisement Thibodeau and the Knicks broke new ground this season, so it would be surprising to see them make a change. After beating a feisty Detroit Pistons team in the first round of the playoffs, the Knicks knocked off the defending champion Boston Celtics in round two to make it to the conference finals for the first time since 2000. That, in theory, should be enough for Thibodeau to keep his job heading into next season, but you never know. There is no question that this Knicks core is good enough to compete for a title, but they need to add some more depth if they want to truly challenge the best of the best. Miles McBride was the seventh man in the rotation and was the last reliable option that Thibodeau and the Knicks had, which could have led to some fatigue for the top guys in the loss.

Knicks shockingly fire Tom Thibodeau after ECF loss vs. Pacers
The post Knicks shockingly fire Tom Thibodeau after ECF loss vs. Pacers appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Knicks have decided to part ways with and fire head coach Tom Thibodeau after losing the Eastern Conference Finals in six games to the Indiana Pacers, first reported by Shams Charania of ESPN. Advertisement Thibodeau, 67, has spent the last five seasons with the Knicks, leading them to the playoffs in four of those years. The team recently made the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 seasons, and Thibodeau coached the Knicks to consecutive 50-win seasons for the first time since the 1994-95 season. This decision was made by lead executive Leon Rose, with the support of owner James Dolan, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. The only goal in New York is to win a championship with star point guard Jalen Brunson as their centerpiece, and the organization believes there are better options to achieve this than with Thibodeau on the sideline. Last offseason, the Knicks and Thibodeau agreed to a three-year extension that would've kept him in New York through the 2027-28 season. That extension would have begun at the start of the 2025-26 season. He is owed $30 million as a result of being fired. Although Thibodeau had the support of many within the organization, including Brunson, this was a decision that Rose made due to the team's failure to capitalize on their immediate championship potential this season after knocking off the defending champion Boston Celtics. Advertisement 'As soon as the Knicks season ended, they started having meetings internally,' Charania said on the Pat McAfee Show. 'James Dolan, the Knicks owner, Leon Rose, their president — they believe the best path for this team to take the next step as an organization and win a championship is that they need a new voice. 'Rose and Dolan came to a decision this morning (Tuesday) that they were going to part ways with Tom Thibodeau.' While this is a shocking move to many around the league, especially given the progress Thibodeau has made in New York through the years and getting this organization on the doorstep of the NBA Finals, it was a decision Rose and Dolan made together to maximize the franchise's championship aspirations. 'Our organization is singularly focused on winning a championship for our fans,' Rose said in the team's press release on Tuesday afternoon. 'This pursuit led us to the difficult decision to inform Tom Thibodeau that we've decided to move in another direction. Advertisement 'We can't thank Tom enough for pouring his heart and soul into each and every day of being the New York Knicks head coach. He led us not only with class and professionalism for the past five seasons but also to tremendous success on the court with four postseason berths and four playoff series victories. 'Ultimately, we made the decision we feel is best for our organization moving forward. Tom will always be a part of our Knicks family and we truly wish him nothing but the best in the future.' Knicks' next steps without Thibodeau Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Where the Knicks go from here is the big question everyone around the league is asking. Advertisement Rose and Dolan made this decision to fire Thibodeau with the mindset that there are better options out there who can lead this team to a title. Who those options are is unknown at this juncture, although former Denver Nuggets coach Michael Malone and former Villanova coach Jay Wright stand out as two obvious options. Malone led the Nuggets to a championship in 2023 before being relieved of his duties with three games remaining in the regular season. His championship experience and proven ability to coach stars match exactly what the Knicks are seeking. Wright won two NCAA championships during his time at Villanova before retiring in 2022. The main reason why Wright's name has been connected to the Knicks through the years is due to his ties with Brunson, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges, three of his former Villanova players. These established relationships and proven track record of winning championships together obviously headline Wright's resume if he is interested in getting back into coaching, especially at the professional level. Advertisement Other names who could appear as candidates for the Knicks job include current UConn head coach Dan Hurley, who was in the running for the Los Angeles Lakers head coach opening last offseason, and former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins. Where the Knicks go from here with major offseason dates approaching, such as the 2025 NBA Draft on June 25 and free agency at the start of July, becomes one of the biggest mysteries in the NBA.

The shocking betting favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau as Knicks head coach
The post The shocking betting favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau as Knicks head coach appeared first on ClutchPoints. On Tuesday, the breaking news of the firing of New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau came as a surprise. Thibodeau led the Knicks to the Eastern Conference Finals and was two wins away from an NBA Finals appearance. There is nothing the state of New York wants more than a Knicks championship, however, if that is going to happen, a new coach must lead them to glory. Advertisement There will be a lot of names circulating the coaching scene and especially for this job. Coaching the Knicks comes with a ton of responsibilities. Thibodeau did a great job of bringing this team back into playoff contention, but he was unsuccessful at getting them over the hump. After the firing of Thibodeau, names like Jay Wright, Michael Malone, Kenny Adkinson, and Mike Budenholzer seem to be early favorites. Well, that is not what Bovada thinks. Bovada Sportsbook released the odds for the Knicks' head coaching job. A name at the top of the list is not one you would expect to see there. Johnnie Bryant is at the top of the list at +240 to become the next Knicks head coach. He is currently the associate head coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers after spending four seasons as the Knicks' associate head coach. Advertisement With recent history with the Knicks and the Cavs' dominance this season, seeing Bryant among the core candidates isn't a shock. However, seeing him with the best odds does come to a bit of a surprise. Betting odds for next Knicks head coach Credit: Vincent Carchietta Here are the odds for New York's next head coach. Johnnie Bryant +240 Kenny Atkinson +400 Mike Budenholzer +950 Patrick Ewing +950 Sam Cassell +950 James Borrego +950 Frank Vogel +1100 Chris Quinn +1400 Jay Wright +1400 Mark Jackson +1400 Mike D'Antoni +2000 *These odd are subject to change* A name that stands out there is Patrick Ewing. His coaching career has not been close to his playing career, but as a Knicks legend, it's not shocking that his name is there, although you can almost count on him not being the next head coach. Advertisement Adkinson, Borrego, Wright, and Malone all make sense. Malone doesn't have odds as of yet, but after his recent firing from the Denver Nuggets, we could see his name surface more and more. For the Knicks' sake, they should absolutely not rush this hiring process.
