Mudra disbusments are benefiting financially weaker states more: SBI Report

New Delhi: Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) disbursements are benefiting financially weaker regions more, improving financial inclusion in underdeveloped states, according to a report by SBI Research.
"A financial inclusion metric show Mudra disbursements have a stronger impact on states with lower financial inclusion levels," the report added.
The report, which analyzes the impact of PMMY, states that states with a higher share of disbursements to women have significantly shown higher employment creation by women-led MSMEs, further reinforcing the efficacy of targeted financial inclusion policies in fostering economic empowerment and labour market participation.
The SBI analysis shows that while the overall diversity (entropy) of Mudra disbursements has become more skewed, this skewness reflects a positive structural shift.
The report highlights that the proportions allocated to developed regions have declined, while underdeveloped regions such as Bihar (from 5.67 per cent to 10.97 per cent), UP (from 9.27 per cent to 11.30 per cent), Odisha (from 4.24 per cent to 4.51 per cent), and the North East have experienced significant gains. This demonstrates a strategic reorientation of the Mudra scheme towards regions that need it the most.
The Government of India set up Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) under the Micro Units Development and Refinancing Agency (MUDRA) to develop and refinance micro units.
Launched in 2015, PMMY ensures collateral-free institutional credit up to Rs 20 lakh is provided by Member Lending Institutions (MLIs), i.e. Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs), Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) and Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs).
Further, the report highlights that increasing women's participation in PMMY leads to better financial situations for women borrowers. About 68 percent of account holders under the scheme are women.
In the last nine years (FY25 over FY16), while per woman PMMY disbursement amount increased by a CAGR of 13 per cent to Rs 62,679, the per woman incremental deposits increased by a CAGR of 14 per cent to Rs 95,269 branding PMMY an effective power tool for women empowerment at grass roots level, the report observed.

SEBI bans Bollywood star Arshad Warsi, wife, 57 others from securities markets for up to 5 years

Markets regulator the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on Thursday barred Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi, his wife Maria Goretti, and 57 others from the securities markets for periods ranging from 1-5 years. The regulator imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh each on Warsi and his wife, Maria. The decision came in a case related to misleading videos on YouTube channels recommending investors to buy shares of Sadhana Broadcast. SEBI found that Arshad Warsi had made a profit of Rs41.70 lakh and his wife earned a profit of Rs50.35 lakh. "It is noted that Arshad Hussain Warsi in his statement recorded before SEBI on June 27, 2023, stated that apart from placing trades in his own account, he was also trading from the accounts of his wife (Noticee 61) and brother (Noticee 62). It is further noted from the submissions of Noticee 60 that Aahuti Mistry acted as the manager of Arshad Warsi,' according to the SEBI order. SEBI also levied penalties in the range of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 5 crore on 57 other entities, including promoters of Sadhana Broadcast (now Crystal Business System Ltd). Apart from the debarment, SEBI also directed these entities to disgorge total unlawful gains of Rs 58.01 crore along with 12% interest per annum from the end of the investigation period till the date of actual payment. The capital markets regulator said the masterminds behind this whole operation were Gaurav Gupta, Rakesh Kumar Gupta and Manish Mishra. Subhash Aggarwal, who also happened to be a director of the RTA of Sadhana Broadcast Ltd, acted as the go-between Manish Mishra and the promoters, the order stated. SEBI received complaints, alleging that there was price manipulation and subsequent offloading of shares in the scrip of SBL. It was also stated in the complaints that YouTube videos were being uploaded with false content to lure investors and a paid marketing campaign worth crores was undertaken to make the videos reach a wider audience. The complainant also provided links to YouTube videos, names of YouTube channels and dates when the videos were uploaded. SEBI examined the complaints and prima facie found that net sellers in the shares of SBL were connected to the creator of YouTube channels, wherein videos with false content and unrealistic target price for the scrip were uploaded with the intention to influence and induce public investors to invest in the scrip. "Search and seizure operations were conducted at the premises of 15 Noticees wherein various documentary and electronic evidences were gathered and statements of various Noticees were recorded on oath," according to the markets regulator. India: Revenue of railway sector companies expected to grow at moderate pace of 5% in FY26: ICRA

New Delhi: The revenue of companies operating in the Indian railway sector is expected to grow at a moderate pace of 5 per cent in the financial year 2025-26 (FY26), according to a recent analysis by ratings agency ICRA. The growth will be largely driven by strong demand in the wagon manufacturing segment. ICRA noted that while wagon manufacturers are expected to witness robust expansion, construction companies involved in railway-related infrastructure projects may see relatively slower growth. It said "revenues of the entities operating in the Indian railway sector are expected to expand at a moderate rate of 5 per cent in FY2026, primarily driven by robust growth expectations from Wagon manufacturers". Despite the moderate growth outlook, the sector's profitability is likely to remain strong. The weighted average operating margin is estimated to stay healthy at around 12 per cent in FY26. This will be supported by operating leverage benefits and expectations of stable input prices. The report highlighted the government's continued focus on boosting the railway sector through increased investment and reforms. Over the past several years, the Government of India has made substantial investments in transport infrastructure to reduce logistics costs, shorten transit times, and enhance overall connectivity. There has also been a consistent push to improve railway infrastructure, including tracks and safety standards, along with better passenger facilities such as upgraded stations and modern rolling stock. This commitment is evident in the significant rise in capital outlay for Indian Railways, which has increased by 130 per cent over the past five years, reaching Rs 2.52 lakh crore in the Budget Estimates (BE) for FY26. However, the budgetary support component of this outlay has grown only modestly--by 2 per cent--between FY24 and FY26 BE. The analysis noted that thanks to sustained investments, companies engaged in Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and wagon manufacturing have seen a strong buildup in their order books. The order book-to-income ratio for such companies increased from 1.33 times in FY2015 to 2.77 times in FY2024. This indicates solid revenue visibility for the medium term, giving the sector a stable outlook despite the moderate growth rate projected for FY26. © Muscat Media Group Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc.
