The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has begun its second day of hearings into Israel's humanitarian obligations to Palestinians, more than 50 days into Israel's total blockage on aid entering the Gaza Strip.Top Palestinian official Ammar Hijazi has told judges that people are starving in Gaza where all UN-supported bakeries are shut as Israel uses humanitarian aid as 'a weapon of war', and nine of every 10 Palestinians have no access to safe drinking water.Amnesty International, a global rights group, has accused Israel of committing a 'livestreamed genocide' against Palestinians in Gaza by forcibly displacing most of the population and deliberately creating a humanitarian catastrophe.Israeli attacks have killed at least 48 Palestinians on Monday across Gaza, with a tent camp for displaced people south of al-Mawasi, near Khan Younis, being one of the main targets.Israel's war on Gaza has killed at least 52,314 Palestinians and wounded 117,792 others, according to the enclave's Health Ministry. Title: Amnesty accuses Israel of 'livestreamed genocide' against Gaza Palestinians
Content: Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing a 'livestreamed genocide' against Palestinians in Gaza by forcibly displacing most of the population and deliberately creating a humanitarian catastrophe.
Israeli forces in Gaza have violated the United Nations Genocide Convention with acts that include 'causing serious bodily or mental harm to civilians' and 'deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction', the human rights organisation said in its annual report.
Israel has repeatedly 'denied, obstructed and failed to allow and facilitate' humanitarian access to Gaza, and invaded the southern city of Rafah, despite warnings by the international community and the International Court of Justice about the 'devastating effect it would have on the civilian population', it added.

Qatar's International Media Office warns against fabricated reports in Israeli media

DOHA: Fabricated documents are once again circulating in the Israeli media in an attempt to sow tension and division between Qatar and the United States at a crucial stage in our efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, said the International Media Office of the State of Qatar. In a press statement, the Media Office said that the timing of their release is no coincidence. 'It is a deliberate distraction, deployed by those who want to deflect attention from negative coverage of their own irresponsible actions in Gaza – including those reported in the news over the past week – at a moment when a breakthrough is within reach,' it said. 'This tactic has been used previously by those who want diplomacy to fail. They do not want Qatar's work with the Trump administration – on the Gaza file and other regional files – to succeed in bringing peace to the region. 'Similar methods have been used against those who have spoken out against the continuation of the war, or worked diplomatically to bring the hostages home including members of President Trump's administration, in an effort to discredit them and undermine the diplomatic process.' 'Their efforts will not succeed. No fabricated documents will weaken the bond between Qatar and the United States,' added the statement. The Media Office also urged all media outlets to remain vigilant against misinformation spread by those who want to disrupt the negotiations by any means necessary in order to prolong the conflict.

Italian referendums on citizenship, labour law fail over low turnout

dpa Rome A series of referendums on immigration and labour law have failed in Italy after turnout fell far short of the required 50% of the eligible population after two days of voting, in a win for right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Preliminary figures from the Interior Ministry showed that only 29% of voters had cast a ballot by the time polling station closed at 3pm (1300 GMT) on Monday. The referendums focused heavily on labour law, with votes on better protection against dismissal, higher severance payments, the abolition of fixed-term contracts and liability in the event of accidents at work. The fifth issue involved deciding whether people from countries outside the EU could be granted citizenship after five years. Currently, this takes at least 10 years. The final results will only be published after the end of the count. According to preliminary figures, there were clear majorities in favour of the measures, but they will not pass due to the low turnout. The failure was widely expected after only 22% of voters participated in the election on Sunday, when voting was open until 11pm. Of the 78 referendums held in Italy since the end of World War II, many have failed due to low turnout. The latest vote was initiated by trade unions and the left-wing opposition. The right-wing coalition government under Prime Minister Meloni advised its supporters not to participate. Meloni herself went to her polling station but did not cast her vote.

Trump travel ban on 12 countries comes into effect

dpa Washington A travel ban on 12 countries by US President Donald Trump has come into force. According to a White House statement, the regulation came into effect early on Monday (0401 GMT). Trump announced the ban on Wednesday, saying that he 'must act to protect the national security and national interest of the United States and its people.' The ban fully restricts the entry of nationals from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Those from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela will be partially restricted, Trump's proclamation adds. A fact sheet issued by the White House stated that some of the named countries had 'inadequate screening and vetting processes, hindering America's ability to identify potential security threats before entry.' Other countries 'exhibit high visa overstay rates,' or did not cooperate in sharing identity and threat information, it added. Trump placed travel restrictions on a group of predominantly Muslim nations as one of his first presidential acts after he first took office in 2017. Several federal courts tried to block the ban, before the Supreme Court ruled in 2018 that it was 'squarely within the scope of Presidential authority.'
