Student Absences Increase in Ramadan, Parental Control Questioned
KUWAIT CITY, March 19: Several schools under the Ministry of Education have witnessed a remarkable increase in student absenteeism during Ramadan, particularly on the Thursday before a holiday. This recurring trend, which the ministry faces during religious and national occasions and other holidays, has become more pronounced during Ramadan. Initially, absenteeism fluctuated during the early days of the holy month, but it gradually worsened; leading to many classrooms being nearly empty. While some school administrations appear to be lenient in addressing this issue or fail to strictly enforce the absence regulations, former psychological consultants at the ministry Huda Al-Haddad labeled absenteeism as a 'negative phenomenon.' She identified the primary cause as a lack of discipline within families, with heads of households being primarily responsible for the situation. She emphasized that parents have no excuse for allowing this trend to continue, especially after receiving absence notifications through Sahel app.
She praised the ministry's measures to tackle absenteeism, including the deduction of half a grade from each subject for students who miss more than three days without an excuse and expulsion after 15 days of unexcused absences. However, she pointed out that some schools may not fully enforce these rules and stressed that noncompliant schools should be held accountable. She also underscored the deterrent effect of these measures, particularly the grade deductions, which can have a significant impact on a student's grade point average (GPA); especially in high school, where cumulative grades determine future prospects. She stressed the importance of student responsibility, reminding them that education is the key to their future.
'Adhering to school attendance will help them avoid the adverse effects of absenteeism, such as poor academic performance and gaps in the curriculum,' she explained. Moreover, the ministry has introduced an electronic absence tracking application on its official website. This platform allows parents to monitor their children's attendance, behavior and academic progress using the student or guardian's civil identification number and password. The application provides comprehensive student data like absences, behavior reports, pledge letters, summons, expulsions, evaluations, class schedules and sick leave. This ensures that parents remain informed and can communicate directly with the school.

Kuwait Cemeteries See Crowds As Families Pay Tribute On Eid
KUWAIT CITY, June 6: From the early hours of the morning on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, the air resonated with the unified takbirs and praises of God Almighty, marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of one of the most cherished festivals in the Islamic calendar. As prayers were offered and greetings exchanged, families across the country embraced long-standing traditions of visiting relatives and strengthening the ties of kinship — a deeply rooted custom that defines the spirit of Eid. Eid is not only a time for festive gatherings and communal joy but also an opportunity for reflection and remembrance. Islam encourages believers to uphold familial and social connections, extending even to those who have passed away. For many, the holiday becomes a moment to visit the graves of departed loved ones — family members, friends, and close companions — offering prayers and recitations from the Holy Quran for their souls. In cities and towns across the nation, cemeteries saw a significant number of visitors who came to pay their respects. Families stood by gravesides, reciting Al-Fatihah and other verses, seeking forgiveness and mercy for those who are no longer with them. Despite the passage of years, the memories of those who shared past Eids remained vivid in the hearts of their loved ones. The act of visiting graves during Eid is a gesture of spiritual continuity and devotion, a way to honor the deceased while reaffirming faith. It is a reminder that love and connection endure beyond life, and that remembrance is a sacred part of celebration.

Article 8 passports to be delivered in 2 shifts this Eid holiday
KUWAIT CITY, June 2: The Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Nationality and Travel Documents, announced that the delivery of Article 8 passports will take place in two daily shifts during the Eid Al-Adha holiday, starting next Saturday. According to a statement issued Tuesday by the General Department of Public Relations and Security Media, passport delivery will be carried out from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., based on times previously communicated to applicants. The move aims to streamline the passport collection process and enhance service quality, in accordance with ministry directives. The ministry emphasized the importance of booking appointments in advance through the unified government platform "Sahel," by selecting the service path: (Appointments → Ministry of Interior → General Department of Nationality and Travel Documents → Receiving Article 8 Passports). Applicants are also required to present their passport delivery receipt upon arrival. This initiative follows the Ministry of Interior's announcement at the end of May regarding the commencement of passport delivery to individuals whose Kuwaiti nationality was previously revoked under Article 8 of the Nationality Law. These individuals, having returned their passports to the ministry, are now being processed as Kuwaiti nationals.
