A poor span of 5:49 in the second period where the Seattle Kraken scored four goals on five shots en route to their 6-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks.
After a slow start, the Sharks looked like they found their game, but a bad second period made the game worse.
Chandler Stephenson had a goal and two assists, and Brandon Montour scored twice for the Kraken. Joey Daccord made 26 saves.
Will Smith extended his point streak to sick as he earned an assist on Carl Grundstrom's goal. Tyler Toffoli also scored for the Sharks. Yaroslav Askarov made seven saves on 11 shots before he was pulled. Alexandar Georgiev stopped 19 shots.
Nikolai Kovalenko left the game in the third period and did not return for an undisclosed reason.

Dwight Howard, Lance Stephenson get ejected after nasty brawl in BIG3 debuts

Things got spicy between Dwight Howard and Lance Stephenson during their BIG3 debuts. Midway through Saturday's game between the Los Angeles Riot and the Miami 305 in the 3-on-3 basketball league, the former NBA stars got into an all-out brawl that eventually spilled into the stands. The two got into a verbal exchange on the baseline following a scuffle between Stephenson and another player on the Riot during a play near half court. While in the stands, Stephenson was able to tackle Howard to the ground while fans rushed to exit the area. Both Howard, 39, and Stephenson, 34, were playing in their first BIG3 games, three years removed from their last outings in the NBA. Howard, who spent 18 seasons in the NBA, was elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in April alongside 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony. After controversially being left off the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team in 2021, Howard said being inducted into the Hall of Fame was a 'solidified feeling,' during an interview with Forbes in April. In Lamb's book of life, that's how that feeling is.' 'Melo and I have been disrespected in a lot of regards when it comes to our careers, because of our longevity,' Howard added. 'We both came in at 18-19 years of age and we played a very long time and we outlasted what the average career would be. 'When we talk about it being satisfaction, it's the fact that we know that there's only 4,800 guys who have ever played in the NBA in the history of the world. There's only been 0.9 percent of that group that has been an All-Star. It's been only 0.2 percent that has been a Hall of Famer.'

Former Sharks Head Coach Lands New Gig

Yesterday, former San Jose Sharks head coach Bob Boughner landed a new job in the NHL as an assistant coach with the New York Islanders, joining Ray Bennett, who was also hired by the team. Boughner will work under Islanders head coach Patrick Roy as they look to turn the franchise around. During his time with the Sharks, Boughner posted a record of 67-85-23. He was originally named interim coach after Pete DeBoer was fired and went on to spend three seasons as head coach from 2020 to 2022 before being let go. Advertisement He previously served as an assistant coach with the Sharks from 2015 to 2017, before leaving to become the head coach of the Florida Panthers. After being fired from that role, he returned to San Jose. For the past three seasons, Boughner was the associate coach with the Detroit Red Wings, working under both Derek LaLonde and Todd McLellan. He'll have his work cut out for him with the Islanders. After a disappointing season that ended early, the team landed the first overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and now has a chance to reshape its future. Boughner will be a key part of that process on Roy's coaching staff as they look to get the Islanders back into the playoffs. Kraken 2025 Draft Targets: Jackson Smith

John Keller / Next on the list as a possible target for the Seattle Kraken at eighth overall is Canadian defenseman Jackson Smith. Like Radim Mrtka, who we named as the top target yesterday, Smith is a tall defenseman playing in the WHL. With the Tri-City Americans, the 18-year-old scored 11 goals and 54 points in 68 games. It was a large jump in production following his rookie campaign in the WHL, but it was a jump that many analysts expected. Advertisement Smith participated in the U-18s with Canada, scoring four goals and five points in seven games en route to a gold medal. Listed at 6'3, 190 lbs, Smith's frame as a defenseman stands out, but he is much more than that. His skating and puck handling jump out immediately when watching Smith. He's able to pick up the puck off a dump-in and use his skating to begin the transition. He can do so by skating with the puck or by making a strong first pass. His defensive game took another step in the right direction, and it's where his size really comes into play. He loves to be physical, routinely separating his opponents from the puck using his body. His positioning in his own end was solid, and he took another step forward, winning a lot of puck battles around the boards. Although there is a lot to like about Smith's game, there are areas in which he could improve. His playmaking in the opposition end could use some refinement, but it is something that should come with age and experience. At times, he forces plays instead of patiently waiting for the opportunity to present itself. Advertisement The left-handed defenseman will be making his way to the NCAA next season to continue his development, joining Penn State University. Smith and Mrtka are currently competing to be the second defenseman called at the draft, each garnering excellent results in the WHL with enticing physical tools.
