"You revered this man and what he has meant to the world of football, to the world of sports overall,' Smith said. 'So we just pray for his full recovery.'
According to multiple reports, Sanders, 57, has been staying at home here in Texas battling an "unspecified health issue." Based on comments from one of his children, there is no timetable on his return to Boulder to resume his job in coaching
In a recent YouTube note, Deion Sanders Jr. said that the Hall of Fame icon is "feeling well" but is not presently ready to travel.
"He'll tell y'all soon enough what he's going through, what he went through," Deion Jr. stated. "When we get back to Boulder, I don't know. I'm waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I'll go. Until then, I'm going to sit here with him."

Sanders - known now as "Coach Prime'' - was reportedly scheduled to do a speaking engagement in Florida but the organization announced an "unavoidable last-minute scheduling change" late last week.

Sanders, a high-profile personality in every way - including most recently his support of two sons, Shedeur (now of the Cleveland Browns) and Shilo (now of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - has in recent years battled a number of health issues.
In 2022 he required surgery in order to get two toes on his left foot amputated due to blood clots in his legs. In 2023, a leg amputation was a possibility before another medical procedure to deal with blood clots in both of his legs dealt with the issue.

Sanders played 14 seasons in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl with the Cowboys in 1995. ... and - in a point made by Smith - has indeed touched many with his celebrity.
The ESPN host ended his message with a powerful and personal plea:
'Know that you got everybody,'' Smith said. "You got a whole bunch of people out here rooting for you and wishing you the greatest of health and nothing but love for you, my brother. Get well soon.'

Should the Nets pursue Bulls' Josh Giddey in 2025 NBA free-agency?

The Brooklyn Nets have plenty of cap space to use in the 2025 NBA offseason and that will be the case even if they decide to retain some of their more important free-agents. Brooklyn would like to improve on a roster that went 26-56 during the 2024-25 season and with that being said, it's fair to wonder if they would pursue a player whose stock rose significantly. Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey will be a restricted free-agent this summer after spending the season with the Bulls following being traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder last offseason. Giddey, 22, seemed to raise his stock significantly after averaging 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 46.5% from the field and 37.8% from three-point land. Advertisement One of the ways that the Nets can explore using their cap space, as noted by ESPN's Bobby Marks, is by using their money to go after restricted free-agents, such as Giddey, given that most marquee unrestricted free-agents are rarely let go by their incumbent teams without a trade. Given where Chicago is in the context of the league, they finished the season with a 39-43 record, they may be willing to let someone like Giddey walk if the price to keep him is too steep. HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported in May that "the belief around the league is Bulls restricted free agent guard Josh Giddey hopes to command a similar five-year, $150 million deal to Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs and earn roughly $30 million annually or more." While paying Giddey $30 million per season would be a big investment for Brooklyn so early in the rebuild, it's important to note that figure may be the going rate for someone of his caliber. NBA insider Jake Fischer reported last week that Giddey is expected to remain with the Bulls due to the season that he had for Chicago along with the fact that the team might be trying to retool around Giddey after trading away DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine over the course of the campaign. Time will tell what the Bulls do in free-agency, but if they're willing to let Giddey walk, Brooklyn could have their point guard of the future. Reacting to star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown getting knee surgery Reacting to star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown getting knee surgery, how do we think it will impact the future of the team, and his career? The short-term good news included in the release shared by the Celtics is that the Georgia native is not expected to miss any time in training camp for the 2025-26 NBA regular season. But there is no such thing as minor knee surgery, and the longer-term ramifications of the procedure could be anything from an afterthought in his career and Boston history to a potential disaster of epic proportions for both Brown and the Celtics. What do we need to be watching for in terms of his recover and how Boston approaches their offseason moves with regard to the Cal alum? The folks behind the "NBC Sports Boston" YouTube channel put together a clip of Chris Forsberg and Tom Giles joining Trenni Casey on their "Arbella Early Edition" show to talk it all over. ESPN Analyst Calls Out RGIII Over Angel Reese Situation

Saturday marked the first game of the season for both the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky. Each team entered the year with optimism after stellar campaigns from rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, respectively. Clark and the Fever ran away with Saturday's game and the former Iowa star posted a triple-double, but most of the conversation around the game came after a moment of physicality in the second half. Advertisement Clark fouled Reese as she went up for a layup, and seemed to push the Sky star to the ground after the foul. Reese was upset and stood up quickly, and the two players were separated. Clark was assessed with a flagrant 1 foul while Reese received a technical for exchanging words with Fever star Aliyah Boston. Both players simply acknowledged the situation as a basketball play and moved on, but the discourse has persisted throughout the weekend and now, into the week. Former ESPN analyst and Heisman trophy winner Robert Griffin III weighed in on the topic, saying that Reese "hates" Clark. "It's staring us all right in the face, but people are afraid to say it," Griffin said on social media. Advertisement "Goes after and tries to punch Caitlin Clark after a routine 'make them earn it foul' after Angel Reese fouled Aaliyah Boston with a push in the back that wasn't called. That's not just hate. That's jealousy and resentment," Griffin suggested. On Monday, one of Griffin's former colleagues at ESPN and a fellow former NFL player responded to his claim. "RGIII saying he could recognize 'hate when 'he' see(s) it', when referring to Angel Reese's feelings toward Caitlin Clark was irresponsible, but not at all surprising," said ESPN's Ryan Clark. "RGIII plays into the narrative that Reese is the villain of Clark's hero origin him to the list of black men who've adopted the corny trend of denigrating black women to affirm their choices." Advertisement Clark then said that Griffin "attacking Reese multiple times in order to gain favor from his desired crowd" won't help him earn the acceptance he is seeking. We'll see the continued fallout from the controversial flagrant foul and the alleged abuse Reese faced from the crowd on Saturday, but it's clear that 2025 will be another emotionally-charged season for certain fans of the WNBA.
