Rain not forecasted as crews battle wildfire burning near Flin Flon, Manitoba.
FLIN FLON — There's no rain in the forecast for Flin Flon, Manitoba over the next week as crews there fight a wildfire that's raging nearby.
Temperatures throughout the weekend are expecting to range from the low to high 20s, before cooling off.
Thousands have evacuated the northwestern Manitoba city, including municipal government officials and health-care professionals.
Flin Flon mayor George Fontaine said on Friday that unless things changed, the fire was projected to take chunks out of the town.
As of now, wildfires in Manitoba have displaced more than 17,000 people.
Thousands have also been affected by wildfires in Saskatchewan and Alberta, with 1,300 people in the community of Swan Hills northwest of Edmonton already forced from their homes.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and fifth-round draft pick Jaylen Samuels is once again looking for a new home. The 28-year-old was drafted by the Steelers in the fifth round at No. 165 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. The former NC State Gamecocks running back played for Pittsburgh for three seasons, appearing in 14 games each year, spreading out eight starts. He totaled 459 yards rushing on 131 attempts with one touchdown. Samuel left Pittsburgh to join the Houston Texans in 2021 before signing with the Arizona Cardinals in 2022. RIMOUSKI, Quebec (AP) — Philadelphia Flyers prospect Denver Barkey scored twice in the second period and the London Knights beat the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-1 on Saturday night for their third Memorial Cup title. Jacob Julien and Easton Cowan also scored and Austin Elliott made 31 saves to help the Ontario Hockey League champion Knights win the junior hockey championship a year after losing in the final to host Saginaw. Advertisement After a 3-1 loss to Western Hockey League champion Medicine Hat on Tuesday night in round-robin play, London beat Moncton 5-2 on Friday night in the semifinal game to set up the rematch with the Tigers. London also won the Memorial Cup in 2005 and 2016. The Knights are owned by former NHL players Dale and Mark Hunter and Basil McRea, with Dale Hunter serving as president and coach and Mark Hunter as general manager.
