Tears as Dog Still Waits for Best Friend to Return—a Year After She Died

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The internet is in shambles after hearing about a dog waiting for her best friend to return home, despite the child dying in April 2024. A family noticed their dog, Bella, immediately connecting with their daughter Ariana. Ever since Ariana was a baby, the two were inseparable. The parents, who started the Ariana Rye Foundation, shared a glimpse of the besties' relationship in a May 28 Instagram video to the account @arianaryefoundation. Bella would snuggle with Ariana and stay under her baby's bassinet as if she were protecting the child. She would sit on Ariana's lap as she got older. But the death of Ariana, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder left the family completely heartbroken, including Bella. Over a year later, Bella still waits for Ariana to come home. "She lies in her bed all day, every day," Bella's owners told Newsweek via Instagram. "I usually give her space. Or come in there when I want to talk to Ariana." The owners said they added a new blanket on top of Ariana's bed because Bella kept getting the comforter dirty from how long she spent on it. The text on the video reads that Bella "soulmated so hard," which left her confused and heartbroken. The girl died a year ago. @arianaryefoundation/Instagram Ariana died while the family was on vacation, and Bella was with them. They also brought her to the viewing, giving her that closure she needed just as much as they did, the caption explained. Now, as Bella grieves, the owners try to comfort the 12-year-old dog. They tell her that they also miss Ariana, ensuring her that Arianna will run to her when she gets to heaven. "And finally, give her all the pets that she's always wanted from Ariana," the owner said. Knowing Bella's a senior, the owner said they ask Bella to give Ariana a message from them when she finally gets to see her, which they know will happen because "all dogs go to heaven." Instagram users flooded the comment section with their condolences and heartbreak for the family and Bella. As of Wednesday, the video amassed over 2.8 million views, 426,000 likes and 512 comments. "Her glow is even gone. She had a golden okay she'll see her sunshine soon," commented one user. A second person added: "May she rest in peace. We do live our best lives with our pup." Another wrote: "May she rest in peace and let this baby find her inner peace."

Violinist Cho-Liang Lin to Perform Tan Dun's Hero Concerto in China and Chamber Music at Montecito Music Festival

Grammy-nominated violinist brings cinematic grandeur to Qingdao and intimate chamber works to California HOUSTON, June 04, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Internationally acclaimed violinist Cho-Liang Lin will showcase his versatility across two distinctive performances this summer, beginning with Tan Dun's Hero Violin Concerto in Qingdao, China on June 21, followed by chamber music concerts at the prestigious Montecito Music Festival in Thousand Oaks, California on July 1-2, 2025. The Qingdao performance promises a spectacular multimedia experience as Lin performs Tan Dun's violin concerto derived from the Oscar-winning composer's score for Zhang Yimou's martial arts epic Hero (2002). Part of a festival curated by Tan Dun himself, the concert at the Qingdao Poly Theater will feature the composer conducting the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra while projected highlights from the film starring Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Tony Leung, and Zhang Ziyi create an immersive fusion of music and cinema. The concerto uniquely requires two violins: one with standard tuning to represent romantic and lyrical themes, and another strung with silk strings to evoke ancient Chinese melodies and the heroic spirit of the film's protagonists. This innovative instrumentation reflects Tan Dun's signature style of blending Eastern and Western musical traditions, creating what he calls part of his "Martial Arts Cycle" alongside concertos based on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Banquet. "Performing Tan Dun's Hero Concerto with the composer conducting is always an extraordinary experience," says Lin, who has championed Tan Dun's works throughout his career, including premiering the composer's violin concerto "The Love" at Carnegie Hall's 2009 China Festival and recording "Out of Peking Opera." "The marriage of his music with Zhang Yimou's stunning visuals creates a truly unique concert experience that transcends traditional boundaries. The innovative use of two violins with different stringing captures both the intimate human emotions and the epic scope of the film's narrative." Following his China engagement, Lin will shift to the intimate chamber music setting of the Montecito Music Festival at California Lutheran College, located in the scenic hills northwest of Los Angeles. The July 1-2 concerts will feature Lin alongside distinguished colleagues including Robert DeMaine, principal cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, pianist Scott Cuellar, violinist Aaron Boyd, and three of Lin's students from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music. The programs will showcase works by Beethoven, Spohr, and Telemann, highlighting Lin's mastery across classical repertoire. These performances exemplify Lin's commitment to both groundbreaking contemporary works and classical chamber music traditions. His longstanding collaboration with Tan Dun has been instrumental in bringing Chinese-influenced compositions to international audiences, while his dedication to chamber music continues through regular appearances at prestigious festivals worldwide. The summer concerts are part of Lin's extensive 2025 season, which earlier included chamber music performances at Rice University with pianist Jon Kimura Parker and appearances at the Fresno State University Violin Festival in March, demonstrating his ongoing dedication to both performance excellence and educational outreach.
