KPT to announce results of SPM leavers' application to continue study on June 16
PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) will announce the outcomes of applications by Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) graduates to public universities and tertiary education institutions for the 2024/2025 academic session on June 16.
They include applications to study at public universities (UA), polytechnics and community colleges (KK).
The ministry, in a statement today, said that the results can be checked from noon to 5 pm on June 25 online via the links https://jpt.utm.my; https://jpt.uum.edu.my; https://jpt.unimas.my; https://jpt.ums.edu.my and https://jpt.umt.edu.my or via the Mobile UPUPocket application on smartphones.
It said the confirmation of acceptance for offers will start from June 17 to 25 on the websites of Public Higher Education Institutions (IPTA) and MARA Higher Education Division (MARA BPT)
'The official offer letters will be issued by IPTA and MARA BPT to successful candidates starting June 17, 2025, after the candidates confirm their acceptance of the offer within the stipulated period,' it said.
According to the ministry, only applicants who were unsuccessful or received a certificate-level study offer can submit an appeal application via UPUOnline® for admission to UA and Polytechnics at https://upu.mohe.gov.my within 10 days from noon on June 16 to 5 pm on June 25, 2025.
Appeals to Community Colleges and MARA BPT can be forwarded directly to the relevant institutions without going through UPUOnline®.
It said the offer of a place for the 2025/2026 Academic Session is final, and any application to change the IPTA/MARA BPT study programme is not allowed.
Any inquiries regarding the UPUOnline® application can be forwarded to the IPTA Student Admissions Division directly at the IPTA Student Admissions Division, Department of Higher Education, Level 4, Tower 2, Jalan P5/6, Precinct 5, 62000 Putrajaya.

Matriculation admissions: MCA Youth submits appeal to Education Ministry
Photo: AZLINA ABDULLAH /The Star KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Youth has submitted an official appeal to the Education Ministry over this year's matriculation admission process, where over 400 SPM high-achievers had sought the party's help after failing to secure matriculation spots. Four of these students had also scored A+ and A in 10 or more SPM subjects. MCA Youth central committee member Ong Chee Siang ( pic ) said 413 complaints from SPM leavers were handed to the Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh's assistant in Putrajaya on Wednesday (June 4) morning, including academic transcripts, performance breakdowns, and analytical reports. He said a total of 255 of the 413 students had met the previous admission qualifications, scoring all As in their SPM, but failed to secure a spot based on the current unclear and inconsistent guidelines. The Education Ministry, on April 30, had released a circular stating that only students with 10As comprising A+ and A in all subjects would be given an automatic offer to enrol in the matriculation programme for the 2025/2026 session. Previously, SPM students with 10As and above were guaranteed a place in the matriculation programme, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in June last year. Ong said the sudden change to the entry requirements, inconsistency in policy and unclear guidelines have left many in limbo. He said according to the party's data, the number of appeals into matriculation has surged by 2.4 times, from only 173 in June 2024 to 413 in the same period this year. 'Among the 413 applicants, four students obtained straight A or A+ in 10 or more subjects. 'One student achieved 9 A+ in all subjects, 14 students scored 9 As or A+, and 17 received a mix of As and A- across 9 subjects,' he said. He cited an example of twin sisters who both scored 9 As and 1 A- and had nearly identical co-curricular points, but one received a matriculation offer and the other did not. 'If two students have similar SPM results but only one secures a spot in matriculation, something isn't right. 'We are puzzled why an A- is now considered insufficient when previous ministry documents — such as a 2009 circular — clearly state that A- is classified under A2 and should be considered as an 'A',' he said. He said the ministry failed to provide a clear and timely admission guideline on the automatic admission for straight A students, which was promised to be released by July 3 last year. Ong also questioned the short deadline for the 2025 intake and appeal, which has caused concern among parents and students. 'Matriculation intake appeals close on June 21, but orientation starts just two days later, on June 23. 'Classes begin on June 27, leaving very little time to process appeals or admit students who were initially rejected. 'We're not sure how the ministry can manage all this so quickly. Last year, some students only got in weeks before the first semester ended,' he said. MCA Youth legal expert Teoh Tuck Wah said when things are suddenly changed without warning, the ministry can be opened to be legally challenged. He said MCA Youth is urging the Education Ministry to publish clear rules for matriculation admission, including whether A- grades are still accepted and to give advance notice before changing policies. 'We ask the ministry to act quickly and fairly. Education should never be handled with uncertainty,' he said.

Letters: Aces go places
I REFER to the letter 'Straight As but at what cost?' by Dr Pola Singh published in StarEdu on May 11 ( While I understand the writer's apprehension about the high number of 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) top scorers, I would like to congratulate each and every one of these aces. I assume you not only did well in the SPM, but were active in various school activities and showed consistency in your academic performance probably since your primary years. Your peers might have teased you for being a bookworm or an introvert, but deep down inside, the hurtful words probably came from a place of envy and admiration, wishing they could shine like you. Learn to accept the expectations that come with being a straight A student but be modest. Did you get a scholarship? Which college will you attend? What course will you take? Can you cope with a new environment? These and many more will be asked of you (and your parents) to the point where you may start to feel that your achievement is a double-edged sword. Don't allow others to make you nervous. Feel good about yourself and focus on the positives. Be confident and believe in yourself because the pressure will continue to mount. If you are sent abroad to pursue your tertiary education, you are likely to be homesick. There you are, alone in a foreign country, experiencing a different environment and culture for the first time in your life. Your heart will tell you to take the first flight home but you know you must persevere to discover a new world filled with unique opportunities and life-changing moments. With your excellent academic results, you are likely to be accepted by prestigious institutions that demand only the best of you. You and your parents will constantly be asked about your progress. Some who ask are genuine in wanting you to succeed. Others are just waiting for signs that you are faltering so that they can begin raining negative comments on you. Don't ever doubt yourself because you have made it this far. Set a high standard for yourself and stay focused on the future. Never get complacent. When you are intent on achieving your dreams, do not be afraid to strive for it. Skills can be acquired and honed, knowledge can be collected and wisdom comes with time.
