TNB Beat Defending Champions Maybank In Stunning MIHL Final Comeback
KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) staged an incredible comeback by overcoming a three-goal deficit to defeat defending champions, Maybank, with a score of 2-1 in a penalty shootout, securing them the 2025 Malaysia Indoor Hockey League (MIHL) title.
Muhammad Nursyahmi Zulkifli became TNB's hero in the penalty shootout, when he netted the winning goal to secure their first MIHL title at Dewan Sri Putra, Bukit Jalil today.
During regular play, which ended in a 3-3 draw, Maybank scored first through a penalty corner goal by Mohamad Kamarulzaman Kamaruddin in the seventh minute.

Maybank extended their lead with a field goal by Shahmie Irfan Suhaimi in the 14th minute, followed by another penalty corner goal by Muhamad Izham Azhar just three minutes later.
Despite being three goals down before half-time, TNB's spirits remained high as they launched relentless attacks in the second half. Muhamad Aminudin Mohd Zain scored a field goal in the 22nd minute to pull one back.
TNB narrowed the gap four minutes later with another field goal from Muhammad Nursyahmi Zulkifli. Wan Haziq Hisyamuddin Wan Ameer Ruzman became their hero, scoring a field goal just three minutes before the end of regulation time, which forced the match into a shootout.
TNB head coach Mohd Madzli Ikmar said his players' composure was crucial to their victory, enabling them to avenge their previous 1-4 loss to Maybank in last year's final.
"After trailing behind, I kept reminding the players to remain calm—no matter what happens, just play. Everything we had planned worked out perfectly.
"Previously, we had always lost to Maybank, but today, the players demonstrated that they could achieve the desired result," he told reporters after the match.

"Therefore, I suggested that the programme be launched with a race event, which involves real competition with winners and losers," he told Bernama here today. Norfirdaus, who previously won a silver medal in the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia in the water sports event, explained that the race also serves as an important screening platform in the selection process for the national jet ski team ahead of the prestigious biennial games. "As of today, over 20 jet skis have registered, not only from Perak but also from Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Terengganu. "This is also part of their preparation to perform or qualify for selection to represent the country at the SEA Games in Bangkok," said Norfirdaus, who will also participate in the upcoming qualifying event in Thailand. The competition is scheduled to take place over two days on Saturday and Sunday, featuring three main categories: 4 Stroke Roundbound Open, 4 Stroke Endurance Open, and 1100 Roundbound Open. Each race consists of 15 laps over an 800-metre course, lasting about 20 minutes. To ensure the safety of participants and spectators, Norfirdaus said five marshal jet skis will be deployed in cooperation with the Marine Police to ensure smooth operations throughout the two-day event. Interestingly, this year's event also revives old memories as Lumut Waterfront previously hosted a jet ski race during the Lumut Water Festival in 1997. "Actually, the last time this competition was held at this same site was in 1997, during the reign of the late Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah. So, holding it again today brings back memories of jet ski racing in Lumut. "So now I'm trying to revive this sport and reintroduce it to the public," Norfirdaus said. He also hopes the presence of visitors at PMR 2025 will open the public's eyes to the potential of jet skiing in Malaysia and highlight the capability of local athletes to compete internationally. Malaysia Rugby Raises Import Player Quota To Seven for 2025 Agong's Cup
KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Rugby (MR) has decided to increase the number of import players allowed to compete in the 2025 Agong's Cup from four to seven players. MR secretary-general Fahmy Abd Jalil said the decision was agreed upon during the union's annual general meeting (AGM) following requests from several affiliate members to increase the import player quota for the tournament. 'We have made a resolution to allow teams participating in the Agong's Cup to increase the number of import players. Previously, only four players were permitted, but for this edition, we have raised it to seven. 'This follows proposals from several affiliate members to increase the number of import players to make the tournament more competitive and provide teams with more player options,' he told Bernama today. Fahmy said MR has sent invitation letters to states to participate in the tournament, which is expected to kick off in mid-August.
