HC directs DDA to halt action against Shahi Idgah over religious gathering in park
NEW DELHI: The HC on Thursday directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) not to initiate any action against the Shahi Idgah in Sadar Bazar for holding a religious gathering in the adjacent park in December 2024. Justice Vikas Mahajan issued notice to the DDA on a petition moved by the Shahi Idgah Managing Committee and sought the authority's response.
'Renotify on September 10. In the meantime, having regard to the fact that the Waqf tribunal is non-functional, where the petitioner has instituted a suit, it is directed that the DDA shall not take any action pursuant to its notice dated February 11, 2025,' the Court said. The petitioner's counsel said DDA's notice of February 11 demanded Rs 12 lakh for using the park surrounding the Idgah for holding Ijtema(religious congregation)last year.
The counsel said the park was part of the Idgah premises and DDA had no claim over it, and a suit was filed before the waqf tribunal against the authority's claim over it.
However, as the tribunal was non-functional due to a lack of quorum, it was urged that the DDA should refrain from taking any steps in the interim. In response, the DDA's counsel argued that a single judge of the High Court had already held the park to be DDA property while adjudicating on a previous plea by the petitioner seeking to install a statue of Maharani Lakshmi Bai at the same site. DDA claimed the religious function was held in its park without prior approval.

Manufacture of a new grain-based foreign liquor, to be called Maharashtra-made liquor (MML), was also approved. The state govt, which has been looking for ways to increase its revenue to fund schemes and election promises like the Rs 1,500 per month Ladki Bahin dole for women, hopes to mop up an additional Rs 14,000 crore with the excise hike. The meeting that cleared the proposals was chaired by CM Fadnavis. A secretary-level study group had been formed to increase the revenue of the excise department. This group studied the best practices and policies in other states and submitted its recommendations and reports to the govt.

The broader objective of Uthpadana Manthana is aligned with the state's vision to attract Rs 7.5 lakh crore in investments and create 20 lakh jobs in next five years,' Patil said. Odisha CM assures more funds to ramp up crime probe
BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday assured Odisha police of providing necessary funds to bring in advanced technology for effective crime investigation and maintaining law and order in the state. Inaugurating the new office building of the deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Bhubaneswar, he said the government is committed to ensuring upgradation and modernisation of police infrastructure which will enhance the delivery of quality services to the public. The office constructed at a cost of Rs 7.80 lakh spans an area of 2,272 sq mtr. It includes amenities such as ramps for differently-abled, cyber cell, crime and criminal tracking network and systems (CCTNS) rooms, integrated control rooms, legal cell and passport section. This apart, there are conference halls and training facilities in the office building. The CM stated that in March, 14 new police stations, constructed across various districts at a cost of Rs 42 crore, were inaugurated. The government is taking all possible measures to improve the working conditions of police in urban as well as rural areas. Lauding the impartial manner in which the police are functioning, Majhi said the law and order situation in the state has been satisfactory over the past year earning appreciation from the central government. He distributed 425 two-wheelers to investigating officers of various police stations under the Commissionerate Police. He said that provisions will be made to provide more four-wheelers to police stations.
