No Compromise On Safety: Aviation Minister On Char Dham Helicopter Crashes
Pune:
In the wake of several helicopter accidents on Char Dham Yatra route this year, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Tuesday asserted there should be no compromise on safety and said they are looking for innovative solutions for better safety measures.
Mr Naidu said they have observed that pilots find it difficult to take off and land their aircraft during sudden weather changes, hence they will focus on use of better technology and better traffic control.
Helicopter crashes or emergency landings have been occurring at an alarming frequency on the Char Dham Yatra route in Uttarakhand, causing concern among people and the administration.
On June 15, an Aryan Aviation Pvt Ltd chopper returning from Kedarnath near Guptkashi crashed, killed all seven persons on board.
It was the fifth incident involving a helicopter on the pilgrimage route this year.
Asked about safety measures for the Char Dham Yatra route in the wake of the helicopter crash, Naidu said the security and safety have been the primary foundation of the Indian civil aviation, adding that "safety has been treated as the top most priority".
"There should not be no compromise on the safety aspect. For the Char Dham Yatra, we want to enhance the safety even more. We are looking into enhanced surveillance. We are creating more systems," he said.
"Since it is a hilly area, the air traffic management is challenging as there is no signal there. That is why we are looking for innovative solutions so that we can have better air traffic control," he told reporters on the sidelines of the Helicopters & Small Aircraft Summit 2025 here.
The minister said they are also working to have better processing of the weather data.
"We have observed that suddenly the weather changes and pilots find it difficult to take off and land during that time. So our thrust will be on bringing in better technology, bringing in better traffic control," he said.
In the next two to three months, the civil aviation (ministry) will bring in better solutions, the minister said.
"By September, we will come up with new things," he added.

West Asia News Live: Iran, Israel and allies test limits in regional power game
June 25, 2025, 10:30:07 (IST) Whatsapp Facebook Twitter Air India to resume most West Asia flights while continuing to avoid unsafe airspaces Air India will resume most of its flight operations to and from West Asia beginning Wednesday, following disruptions caused by recent regional instability, according to a report in Hindustan Times. This decision comes after many airlines, including Air India, had to reroute or cancel flights due to heightened security risks following the direct military conflict between Iran and Israel in April 2024. While the resumption signals a perceived de-escalation of the immediate threat, the airline has stated it will continue to dynamically assess and avoid any airspaces considered unsafe. The move is considered a positive development for connectivity for the large Indian diaspora in the Gulf and for the economies of West Asian aviation hubs.

Assam Tourism, BigTree Entertainment sign MoU on holding international concerts
Guwahati: A memorandum of understanding was signed between Assam Tourism Development Corporation Limited and BigTree Entertainment Private Limited to facilitate the organisation of international concerts in the state. BigTree Entertainment Private Limited, widely known in the Indian entertainment industry as BookMyShow , has attained a prominent position through its consistent record of managing large-scale musical events across India. This agreement is intended to expand Assam's capacity to host concerts of international calibre. Speaking on the occasion, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma remarked that the agreement signifies the commencement of a new phase in Assam's cultural development. He expressed the belief that this collaboration could serve to establish Assam as a preferred destination for concertgoers worldwide and integrate the state more visibly into the international music circuit. The Chief Minister further observed that recent live concerts in India have catalysed a significant cultural movement, facilitated artistic expression and contributing to the transformation of urban centres into hubs of creativity. He cited the example of Meghalaya as a regional model in this area and noted that the natural setting of the North Eastern region has positioned it as a distinctive destination for musical experiences. He suggested that Assam, by combining its traditional cultural heritage with the dynamism of its young population and natural landscape, is well situated to develop a sustained live concert culture. He added that such efforts would also help enhance Assam's cultural profile on a larger canvas. Acknowledging Assam's longstanding cultural and spiritual traditions, Dr. Sarma highlighted the unique appeal of folk forms such as Bihu and Bagurumba. He stated that the merging of traditional and modern musical influences has created favourable conditions for the growth of a concert culture within the state. Pointing to Assam's scenic environment, historical sites, and verdant tea gardens, he said that these attributes collectively strengthen the state's potential not only as a venue for musical performances but also as a comprehensive tourism destination. He further emphasised the role of recent improvements in transport and hospitality infrastructure in facilitating greater connectivity with both domestic regions and neighbouring countries, thereby enhancing Assam's accessibility and appeal as a travel destination. The Chief Minister also highlighted Guwahati as having emerged as a strategic gateway to South-East Asia and stated that the state government is actively pursuing policies aimed at promoting concert tourism as a component of broader economic development. He further added that Guwahati has experienced notable expansion in the hospitality sector and air travel infrastructure. He said that the agreement would enable concerts not only in Guwahati but also in other major urban centres such as Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and Silchar. Drawing parallels with the national and international interest generated by sites such as Kamakhya, Batadrava, Kaziranga, and Manas, he expressed the hope that Assam's cultural tourism offerings would likewise attract sustained attention. He concluded by affirming that the development of concert tourism would contribute meaningfully to the strengthening of the state's economy.
