Saints' Cameron Jordan Named a Potential Trade Target for Lions

Saints' Cameron Jordan Named a Potential Trade Target for Lions originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There are still options out there for the Detroit Lions to get themselves an upgrade at they second edge spot. Advertisement Za'Darius Smith, Jadeveon Clowney, Carl Lawson, and Matthew Judon are all available in free agency. However, those might not be the only options for the Lions to find an edge. Detroit Lions general manager Brad HolmesKirby Lee-Imagn Images A to Z Sports' Mike Payton sees a trade the Lions could make to get themselves another pass rusher. Payton recently named New Orleans Saints edge Cameron Jordan as a potential trade target for the Lions ahead of training camp. Moving on from Jordan doesn't do a whole lot for the Saints. They would save just $1.26 million in cap space by trading him and wouldn't get much trade capital in return for him. The move makes a lot more sense for the Lions. They still don't have a dependable second edge on the roster. Jordan could be that for them. Advertisement He certainly isn't still at the Pro Bowl level we saw of much of his NFL career, but last season he proved that he still has something to offer. In 2024, Jordan had four sacks and 28 total pressures. He also had 21 stops, which was good for 45th at his position according to Pro Football Focus. It wouldn't be the most awe-inspiring move, but it would give the Lions somebody more dependable than Marcus Davenport. It also wouldn't cost much because the Saints would eat most of his money, which seems to be the most important factor for the organization right now. Lions Urged to Pursue Former Bills Edge Von Miller

Lions Urged to Pursue Former Bills Edge Von Miller originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Detroit Lions' roster took a big hit today. All-Pro center Frank Ragnow announced he is retiring, which leaves them with another position where they need to find a way to replace a talented starter. Advertisement With that in mind, they may feel a bit more urgency to make a move at one of the other positions where they are still looking to replace a former All-Pro who started for the team in 2024. Detroit Lions general manager Brad HolmesKimberly P. Mitchell / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The Draft Network's Justin Melo has an idea for just such a move that would give the Lions a replacement for Za'Darius Smith. Melo recently named the Lions as a team who should sign former Buffalo Bills edge Von Miller. It seems this idea may be gaining some popularity as CBS Sports' John Breech also recently named the Lions as a potential landing spot for the former Super Bowl MVP. Miller is no longer the elite defender that anchored a Super Bowl-winning Broncos defense, but he was still a pretty solid piece for the Bills this past season. Advertisement He only played 279 snaps in 13 games, but was still able to produce six sacks and 32 total pressures in 2024 according to Pro Football Focus. It was a big bounce back for Miller after he failed to record a sack in 12 games during the 2023 season. He's not the best option out there as he is now 36 years old and has missed 15 games in the last three seasons. He also plays limited snaps even when available. However, he could work as a pass rush specialist for them to give the team another option to get pressure on opposing QBs in obvious passing situations. The Lions need to do something to improve in this area as they prepare to face the NFL's toughest schedule in 2025. Advertisement If the price is right, Miller could make sense as an option to give them that boost. Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow retires after 7 seasons, 4 Pro Bowls

DETROIT (AP) — Detroit center Frank Ragnow, a four-time Pro Bowl selection who was key to coach Dan Campbell's Lions revival, announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday after seven seasons. Ragnow, 29, posted to social media that he has tried to convince himself he's feeling well enough to play, 'but I'm not,' he said. Advertisement 'I have given this team everything I have and I thought I had more to give, but the reality is I simply don't,' said Ragnow, who was drafted 20th by the Lions in 2018. 'I have to listen to my body and this has been one of the hardest decisions of my life.' Ragnow battled through multiple injuries during his career. In 2021, following a season in which he played with a fractured throat, general manager Brad Holmes made him the league's highest paid center at the time with a $54 million, four-year extension. Ragnow earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2020, 2023 and 2024. He was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2020 under then-coach Matt Patricia, and then made three straight from 2022-24. 'These past couple of months have been very trying as I've come to the realization that my football journey is ending and I'm officially retiring from the NFL," Ragnow said. "The Lions organization has been absolutely incredible throughout this process and I can't emphasize this enough how grateful I am for this team and all the fans. It was an absolute honor going to battle for you all.' Advertisement Harrison Phillips, the eighth-year veteran defensive tackle with division rival Minnesota, raved about Ragnow when asked on Monday about the news of his retirement. 'He's one of the best centers I've ever had the privilege to play against,' Phillips said. 'I know that every time I had to play against him, I had to buckle my chinstrap extra tight and watch a lot of extra film.' Phillips said his teammates on the Vikings' offensive line would often ask him for tips about Ragnow's technique because his fundamental blocking skills were so exceptional. 'The way that he played was acknowledged amongst all players on both sides of the line of scrimmage,' Phillips said. ___ AP NFL: The Associated Press
