‘Took care of business': Lakeview advances after historic title win
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa (WKBN) – Lakeview defeated Rocky Grove 72-53 for the District 10 Class 2A Championship game at Slippery Rock University, Friday night.
Watch above for extended game highlights and interviews with winning head coach Garrett Blaschak and junior player Lucas Fagley.
'During this playoff time, we talked a lot about just being team first, having a team-first attitude,' said Blaschak. 'We came up with the quote, 'sometimes you, sometimes me, always us,' and I think that was what you saw tonight.'
Fagley took over the second half of the game with a game-high 25 points in the win.
'Push the tempo, my teammates found me and they're awesome,' said Fagley. 'They just found me, and I kept going.
In the win, Lakeview secures their second District 10 Title in school history. This is the first district title since 2020.
'I've only been doing this for seven years, there's a lot of coaches that have never had an opportunity to do what we are doing here at Lakeview Boys Basketball,' said Blaschak. 'I'm just extremely proud to be a part of the Lakeview community as a coach.'
Lakeview's Parker Montgomery hit two consecutive three-point shots in the fourth quarter to give the Sailors a nine-point lead on the way to victory.
'Montgomery stepping up and banging a couple threes there when we needed big buckets,' said Blaschak. 'He really hasn't had that role all year, but we give him the confidence to do things like that.'
Montgomery scored 16 points and Evan Resier recorded 10, which all came in the fourth quarter.
'There's no better feeling and to do this with a group of guys around me, it's just awesome,' said Fagley. 'This is 16 in a row. That's a big accomplishment, going to keep using that to go into a playoff run.
Lakeview is (12-0) in league play and on a 16-game win streak. The Sailors started the season (1-3).
'It's a long journey, but I think with the way we started our season playing difficult teams, going (1-3) to start, we faced adversity early and I think that helped us a lot throughout the season,' said Blaschak.
Lakeview suits up next in the first round of the PIAA Tournament against Chartiers-Houston Saturday, March 8.
