Investigation underway into southeast hit-and-run collision that injured pedestrian

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Jeff McIntosh An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Friday night in southeast Calgary. Calgary police say they responded at 9:56 p.m. to reports of an injury collision involving a vehicle and a female pedestrian in the 100 block of Inverness Square S.E. The woman was transported to hospital with significant injuries, including a broken leg. Police said she is in stable condition. CTV News has reached out to EMS for additional information. The vehicle left the scene. A police spokesperson said the vehicle was a four-door silver older car. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234. Woman shot and killed in Sudbury, police search for multiple suspects
Police in Greater Sudbury are searching for multiple suspects after a fatal shooting in Gatchell left one person dead and another in hospital. One person was shot and killed and another seriously wounded in a shooting Friday in the Gatchell area of Greater Sudbury. Officers were dispatched to the weapons complaint on Clemow Avenue shortly after noon, where two people required immediate medical attention. 'Both individuals sustained serious injuries and have been transported to hospital by paramedics. Based on the information provided on scene, it is believed that multiple parties fled prior to police arrival.' Police confirmed later Friday afternoon that the woman died of her injuries, making this a homicide investigation. A neighbour said police were concentrating their efforts on a basement apartment. It was cordoned off with yellow police tape Friday as officers conducted a canine track in search of the suspects. Officers were asking neighbours if anyone saw a vehicle speeding away from the scene, one person told in an interview. They are also searching for surveillance footage in the area off Lorne Street. 'Anyone with information or with video surveillance equipment in the area that may have captured the individuals involved is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171,' police said. An ambulance with sirens blaring was seen leaving the scene followed by a police vehicle. Members of the tactical unit are on site and investigators were canvassing the area for witnesses and evidence. The shooting is believed to be a targeted incident involving people known to each other, police said.
