
Japan House Speaker visits Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility in Jagiroad
Guwahati: Speaker House of Representatives, Japan Nukaga Fukushiro and his delegation visited Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility at Jagiroad. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma received delegation.It may be noted that the Japanese delegation led by its Speaker on the second day of its three-day visit to Assam, on Sunday visited the under-construction site of Tata's Semi Conductor Assembly and Test Plant at Jagiroad and toured the facility to gain a first-hand look at the progress of the plant. Sarma said that the visit of the Japanese Speaker to Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility along with his high-powered delegation is a significant and positive development from the perspective of attracting Japanese investments to Assam. Highlighting the need of building continuous engagement between Japanese institutions and the Government of Assam, Sarma said that in a short span of time, Assam received fourth Japanese delegation, which underscored the growing bilateral cooperation between Assam and Japan.
Sarma also said that Japan has lifted all restrictions on tourists visiting Assam and the country is already supporting Assam in all key sectors namely health and infrastructure. He also said that Japan has long been a global leader in
semiconductor technology
, and its involvement in the sector in Assam is expected to boost the region's technological capabilities and foster economic growth. Japan's involvement will be significant boost to the state's semiconductor ambitions, enhancing tech capabilities, strengthening the supply chain and driving economic growth.
He also expressed hope that Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility will benefit the local youth in getting employment opportunities without having them to travel outside the state for gainful employment
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati hosted the Japanese delegation led by the Hon'ble Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, Excellency Fukushiro Nukaga.
The delegation included four Members of Parliament, the former Japanese Ambassador to India, senior officials from the Government of Japan, and representatives from the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi. In addition, 22 delegates representing various Japanese industries also participated in the visit.
Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati welcomed the delegation and presented an overview of the institute's vision, global collaborations, achievements, and its commitment to advancing scientific and technological research.
Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, said, 'We deeply value Japan's longstanding friendship and its forward-looking approach to collaboration. IIT Guwahati is committed to working closely with our Japanese counterparts to tackle global challenges through shared knowledge, innovation, and mutual respect.'
In his address to the gathering, Nukaga emphasised the strong democratic foundations and shared developmental goals of India and Japan.
He underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in emerging technologies, human resource development, and the pursuit of sustainable development. Nukaga also noted the vital role both nations play as leaders in innovation and democracy in the Eastern hemisphere. He called for deeper cooperation through research, education, cultural exchange, and innovation-driven partnerships.
Following the interaction, the delegation visited key research facilities at IIT Guwahati. At the Centre for Nanotechnology, delegates toured the state-of-the-art cleanroom facility, such as the one being developed at the upcoming Tata Semiconductor plant in Assam, a project that IIT Guwahati is actively supporting. They also reviewed several indigenous research innovations and ongoing projects in nanotechnology.
The delegation later visited the Technology Incubation Centre and Research Park, where they were introduced to pioneering work in Artificial Intelligence and healthcare technologies. Start-ups incubated at the institute showcased a wide range of medical and sustainable devices, some of which were presented as mementos to the Hon'ble Speaker.
The event also featured one-on-one discussions between the Japanese delegates, IIT Guwahati officials, and representatives from the Government of Assam. These conversations focused on strengthening current collaborations and aligning future efforts with the vision of increasing Indo-Japan student and research exchanges to 50,000, as envisioned by Prime Minister of India

and Prime Minister of Japan Shigeru Ishiba.

180th Indian Arrival Day celebrated in Trinidad and Tobago Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago)
The Indian mission in Trinidad and Tobago celebrated Indian Arrival Day, marking 180 years since the arrival of the first Indian immigrants to the Caribbean nation. The event on Sunday was the first such celebration by the High Commission to celebrate the arrival of the first group of Indians in 1845. Minister of Foreign and Caribbean Community Affairs Sean Sobers was the Chief Guest at the event, the Indian mission said in a post on X.
