Why is Eminem Suing Meta for USD 109 Million? Inside Rapper's Fight Over 243 Songs
Eminem's publishing company, Eight Mile Style, has filed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. The lawsuit, filed on May 30 and obtained by E! News on June 3, accuses Meta of copyright infringement.
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, claims that Meta allowed the unauthorized use of 243 of his songs across its platforms. According to the court documents, Meta's features, such as Original Audio and Reels, make it easy for users to take clips of Eminem's music without permission.
The lawsuit states that these tools allow and encourage users to steal his tracks for use in videos without proper attribution or license. As a result, Eight Mile Style is seeking more than USD 109 million in damages.
Why is Eminem suing Meta platforms?
Eminem alleges that Meta violated his copyright by storing, reproducing and exploiting his songs without authorization. The filing demands damages for the diminished value of the copyrights, lost profits and any profits Meta earned from the infringement.
Alternatively, he asked for the maximum statutory damages of USD 150,000 per song across all Meta platforms, which adds up to USD 109,350,000.
The lawsuit explains that users can easily search for Eminem's tracks on Facebook and Instagram, and then apply them to their Reels or Stories. Without proper licensing or credit, these uses harm the value of the original recordings. In the filing, Eminem's team lists each of the 243 songs in his catalog, which includes hits like Love the Way You Lie.
Eminem has often shared how important music is to his mental health. 'One of the great things about rap music is that you could put so much of your life in it,' he said during an interview on Shade 45's Sway In The Morning in June 2022. 'It's therapeutic and that's how it's always been for me.' His lyrics frequently touch on his difficult childhood and personal struggles.
The lawsuit also comes as Eminem continues to protect his artistic legacy. The Detroit rapper has a long history of taking legal action to defend his music rights. His decision to sue Meta echoes past battles over copyrights and royalties.

Rate-cut boost: Rupee jumps 11 paise to 85.68 against dollar; market rally and CRR cut lift sentiment
The rupee appreciated by 11 paise to close at 85.68 against the US dollar on Friday, reversing early losses after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) delivered a surprise 50 basis point repo rate cut and announced a phased 100 basis point reduction in the cash reserve ratio (CRR). The local unit opened weak at 85.91, down 12 paise from the previous close of 85.79. But sentiment turned sharply positive after the RBI's unexpected rate action, which supported growth prospects and lifted domestic equities. The rupee touched an intra-day high of 85.66 and a low of 86 before settling higher, PTI reported. "The rupee led the pack among Asian currencies, buoyed by the RBI's surprise 50 basis point rate cut. This decisive, growth-driven policy move provided a significant boost to the local currency and fuelled optimism among domestic equity investors," said Dilip Parmar, Senior Research Analyst at HDFC Securities. At the policy briefing, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said the decision to move to a 'neutral' stance from 'accommodative' reflected a data-dependent outlook going forward. He added that the economy remained resilient, with foreign reserves strong enough to fund 11 months of imports and cover 96% of external debt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mistura chinesa faz cabelo crescer e homem fica irreconhecível Resultados em 30 dias Undo The surprise CRR cut is expected to inject additional liquidity into the banking system, lowering borrowing costs and aiding credit transmission. Anurag Mittal, Head of Fixed Income at UTI AMC, called the move "pre-emptive and precise," noting that the central bank's intent to fast-track transmission was clear despite existing surplus liquidity. The RBI retained its GDP growth forecast for FY25 at 6.5%. Despite the rate-induced rally, analysts warned of external risks. A rising dollar index, up 0.25% to 98.98, and weakening Asian currencies could limit further gains for the rupee. Brent crude futures slipped 0.26% to $65.17 per barrel. 'Any further rate cut by the RBI may also pressurise the rupee. However, a positive tone in the domestic markets may support the domestic currency at lower levels,' said Anuj Choudhary, Research Analyst at Mirae Asset Sharekhan. He expects the USD-INR pair to trade between 85.40 and 86.25 in the near term. Equity markets reflected the upbeat sentiment. The Sensex closed 747 points higher at 82,189, while the Nifty crossed the 25,000-mark to end at 25,003, up 252 points. Foreign institutional investors were net buyers, purchasing equities worth Rs 1,009.71 crore, exchange data showed. Bachupally murder case: Man arrested for killing woman, dumping body in bag
The Cyberabad police have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was found stuffed in a large travel bag and abandoned in a secluded corner of Bachupally earlier this week. The accused, identified as Vijay Toppa alias Wilson, was picked up from Bowrampet by the Balanagar Special Operation Team (SOT) and Bachupally police on Thursday evening. He later confessed to killing the victim, 33-year-old Tara Bohra, during an argument over her pregnancy. The case came to light on the morning of 4 June when a local watchman discovered the bag in Vijaya Durga Owners Association Colony. Upon inspection, police found the woman's body inside. A murder case was booked by the Bachupally police. Investigators said both the victim and the accused were Nepalese nationals who had met on Facebook and developed a relationship. Tara, a married woman with two children, arrived in Hyderabad on April 15 and began living with Vijay in a rented room in Indiramma Colony, Bowrampet. Vijay was working as a chef at a local fast food stall. According to the police, at around 5 a.m. on May 23, a heated argument broke out between the two. In a fit of rage, Vijay strangled Tara using a nylon bag string, stuffed her body into a travel bag, and later dumped it in the colony where it was found days later. Based on CCTV footage and technical evidence, five special teams launched a manhunt. Their efforts led to Vijay's arrest from Bowrampet. Police have seized both the victim's and the accused's mobile phones, the travel bag used to transport the body, and the nylon thread used to commit the murder. Vijay is being produced before the court for a judicial remand.

India's forex reserves decline $1.2 billion to $691.5 in week ending May 30
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 6 (ANI): India's foreign exchange reserves (forex) slumped USD 1.237 billion to USD 691.485 billion in the week ending May 30, official data released by the Reserve Bank of India showed on Friday. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said the foreign exchange kitty is sufficient to meet 11 months of the country's imports and about 96 per cent of external debt, announcing the outcome of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decisions earlier today. The RBI governor added, 'Overall, India's external sector remains resilient as key external sector vulnerability indicators continue to improve. We remain confident of meeting our external financing requirements.' Despite the marginal weekly decline, the forex kitty is close to its all-time high of USD 704.89 billion in September 2024. The latest RBI data showed that India's foreign currency assets (FCA), the largest component of foreign exchange reserves, stood at USD 584.215 billion. According to RBI data, the gold reserves currently amount to USD 84.305 billion. Central banks worldwide increasingly accumulate safe-haven gold in their foreign exchange reserves kitty, and India is no exception. The share of gold maintained by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its foreign exchange reserves has almost doubled since 2021. In 2023, India added around USD 58 billion to its foreign exchange reserves, contrasting with a cumulative decline of USD 71 billion in 2022. In 2024, the reserves rose by a little over USD 20 billion. Foreign exchange reserves, or FX reserves, are assets held by a nation's central bank or monetary authority, primarily in reserve currencies such as the US Dollar, with smaller portions in the Euro, Japanese Yen, and Pound Sterling. The RBI often intervenes by managing liquidity, including selling dollars, to prevent steep Rupee depreciation. The RBI strategically buys dollars when the Rupee is strong and sells when it weakens.
