Prep talk: Mt. SAC Relays are set for Saturday
One week after great performances at the Arcadia Invitational, the Mt. SAC Relays at Mt. San Antonio College take center state on Saturday.
Among the entrants is the state's fastest sprinter, defending state champion Brandon Arrington from Mt. Miguel High. He's run 10.24 seconds in the 100 meters and 20.35 in the 200 this year and won both at Arcadia. Jack Stadlman of Temecula Valley, the top 400 runner, is entered in the 200.
High jumper JJ Harel of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, who stopped workouts for two weeks and missed Arcadia, could be back on Saturday. He resumed training this week.
Servite's outstanding relay teams are expected to compete after winning twice last week. Leo Francis of Santa Margarita is in the long jump after winning at Arcadia last week. …
The Collision All-Star basketball games will take place Saturday at St. Bernard. The girls' game is at 3:30 p.m. and the boys' game at 5:30 p.m.

'I expect so much of him offensively and think so much of him offensively,' Aaron Boone said. 'He's capable of that right there against the very best left-on-left.' After Yarbrough was knocked around for five runs in the top of the third and two more in the fourth, Wells tried to get the Yankees back in the game in the bottom of the fourth, this time with a booming double the other way to left-center. It came again off Crochet, who had also given up only one double to lefties all year. Although he has 10 homers, his average has hovered slightly above .200 for most of the season. With Carlos Narváez in town with the Red Sox after being traded by the Yankees in the offseason and off to a start that has put him in the conversation for the American League All-Star team, Wells' shaky offensive output has been highlighted more of late. The Yankees are steadfast in their belief that Wells will live up to his potential on offense, as he has continued to impress behind the plate. 'Hopefully it's those little things that kind of get him rolling to where he gets hot,'' Boone said of Wells' at-bats on Saturday.

What to watch for in today's NASCAR Cup race at Michigan International Speedway
BROOKLYN, Mich. — High speeds, harried restarts and high-pressure decisions will be on display in today's Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. Today's race is the 15th of the season. Eleven races will remain in the regular season after today. The green flag is scheduled for 2:19 p.m. ET on Prime. Here's a look at what to watch for in today's race: Restarts, restarts, restarts Today's race will mark the third for Christopher Bell with new spotter Matt Philpott, who took over after Stevie Reeves left the team after Bell's All-Star win last month at North Wilkesboro. Let Bell, who starts 25th today, explain what Philpott will face in spotting today's race: 'He's in a for a rude awakening at this race track, let me tell you, because restarts here are probably the most intense restarts that we get all year long,' Bell told NBC Sports. 'Massive draft runs. Lots of lanes to pick where to go. 'He's been doing a lot of studying. He's been doing a great job, too. I think for getting thrown in the middle of the season, he's done everything you could ask for. 'From my side, really, there's been a couple of really tight clears. I had my incident with a teammate Ty (Gibbs) at Charlotte that hindered his race, so that was a bummer, but we worked through that. It's just me understanding his language and knowing his tone of voice, stuff like that. 'I think Adam (Stevens, crew chief) has had a little bit of direction for him, but he's been doing a really good job every week and really taking care of our car and getting us to the end of the races. He's doing a really good job.' As Bell noted, restarts are a key part of the racing at Michigan because of how wide the track is, allowing drivers to use different lanes to get around cars. Of course, it also can create calamity and multi-car crashes. Seven cars were involved in a crash shortly after a restart in last year's race that eliminated Bell, Kyle Larson and Joey Logano. A new winner today? Six of the top 10 starters for today's race have yet to win a race this season. Those are Chase Briscoe (starting first), Kyle Busch (second), Chris Buescher (sixth), Ty Gibbs (eighth), Bubba Wallace (ninth) and Zane Smith (10th). Briscoe is starting on the pole for the third consecutive race. Busch is winless in his last 71 Cup races and finished fourth in this race a year ago. Buescher won here two years ago and finished sixth last year despite being involved in an incident. Gibbs finished third in last year's race. Four of the last five races have seen a driver score their first victory of the season. Those drivers were Ryan Blaney (Nashville), Ross Chastain (Coca-Cola 600), Joey Logano (Texas) and Austin Cindric (Talladega). Wait now or wait later With pit crews able to change four tires quicker than a fueler can fill a car with gas, crew chiefs will be left with the decision of having to make their driver wait on fuel or leave when the tires changed and with less gas. Fuel often plays a key role at this 2-mile track. While restarts will be pivotal, gaining track position with a faster pit stop also can prove key. Watch when teams wait for fuel and when they don't in today's race. Mariners star Julio Rodríguez appears OK after being knocked out of an 8-6 loss to Angels
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Seattle Mariners slugger Julio Rodríguez was unable to dodge a grounder in the third inning of Saturday night's 8-6 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. Rodríguez was attempting to steal third base when Randy Arozarena's 98-mph grounder that appeared headed through the shortstop hole hit Rodríguez on top of his right ankle, knocking him out of the game. The two-time American League All-Star got better news later in the evening when X-rays on his ankle were negative, and Rodríguez was listed as day-to-day with a contusion. 'It's kind of a day-to-day thing, we'll see how it goes,' Seattle manager Dan Wilson said after his team's fifth consecutive loss. 'But it could have been a lot worse.' Rodríguez, who is batting .254 with 10 homers and 32 RBIs in 61 games, had singled and scored on Cal Raleigh's three-run homer in the first inning and singled and stole second base to open the third. With one out and Arozarena batting against Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz, Rodríguez took off for third. He heard the crack of Arozarena's bat, but the ball struck him just as he was about to turn his head to look for it. Arozarena was credited with a single. Rodríguez was ruled out and remained on the ground near the third-base coaching box for a minute or two before being escorted back to the dugout. 'At first, it was very painful — like I couldn't really feel my foot a whole lot or move it a whole lot,' he said. 'But after they started treating it, the swelling went down, and everything started reacting better right away. So that made me feel really good. … There's a high chance that I should be in the lineup (Sunday).' Rodríguez's absence was felt immediately. Leody Taveras took over in center field and misjudged Zach Neto's flare to lead off the bottom of the third. The ball dropped in front of him and then bounced away for a single and an error. Neto scored on first baseman Rowdy Tellez's fielding error, and Chris Taylor followed with a catchable drive to the gap in right-center. But Taveras mistimed his leap on the warning track, and the ball clanged off the palm of his glove hand for an RBI double that tied the score at 4 and erased the Angels' four-run second-inning deficit. Angels center fielder Jo Adell broke the tie with his second homer of the game in the fourth, and the Angels pulled away with runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. 'That's a tough situation (for Taveras) coming off the bench there, and the ball finds him right away,' Wilson said. 'He's been so good for us, and he's run a lot of balls down out there, so just a tougher night for him.' ___
