New Ellesmere Port car parts mecca to make life easier for Vauxhall, Citroen, Fiat and Peugeot owners

The owner of Vauxhall, Peugeot and several other car brands is set to open up a multi-million pound parts distribution centre in the UK, which will stock roughly four million parts per year for dozens of models aged up to 10 years old.
Stellantis' new parts mecca in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, will sit next to its pre-existing electric van manufacturing plant which currently builds the Vauxhall Combo Life Electric, Peugeot E-Rifter and Citroën ë-Berlingo people carriers. Advertisement - Article continues below
Equivalent in size to roughly nine football pitches, the new warehouse occupies a colossal 60,000 square metres and, thanks to 14-metre-high shelving units, can cater for as many as 140,000 different parts.
As well as catering for Stellantis stalwarts like Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat, the new distribution centre will also stock parts for the likes of Leapmotor – a new Chinese brand which has recently fallen under the conglomerate's umbrella – in an effort to give customers peace of mind when it comes to parts availability.
Yet despite its gigantic size, Stellantis' new site is the first UK warehouse to receive BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) accreditation. This evaluates the way a building is constructed, what materials are used and how it will be operated in order to determine how environmentally sustainable it is.
Manager of the new parts distribution centre, Diane Miller, said the new location 'ensures a more efficient process by bringing all Stellantis brands under one roof. Thanks to the more central location afforded by Ellesmere Port, we also benefit from better transport links for distribution to our 19 regional hubs across the UK and Ireland.'
All of this comes shortly after Stellantis pulled the shutters on Vauxhall's iconic Luton manufacturing plant, which resulted in 1,100 job losses. Stellantis had previously threatened to pull out of the UK manufacturing sector altogether due to the tough conditions placed upon brands under the ZEV Mandate, however, investment in the Ellesmere Port plant suggest that Stellantis is here to stay – for now, at least.

CHILLING footage shows the moment thieves stole a car in just seconds using a wireless device. Investigative reporter Matt Shea went undercover for Channel 4 Dispatches to shed light on organised criminal gangs specialising in car thefts. 5 5 5 In the show, which will air in full tonight, Shea met whistleblowers and car thieves in a bid to expose the truth. A sneak peek at the much-anticipated programme shows two car thieves demonstrating using keyless technology bought from the dark web. Footage shows the pair revealing to Shea exactly how they can steal a car in just 20 seconds. Thief 'T' and an accomplice demonstrated how they use an amplifier, which looks similar to a radio or walkie-talkie. It picks up the signal from the "key" inside a home and use it to unlock a car parked outside. The device works by scrambling the signal from a remote key fob, and was used in nearly 60 percent of car thefts in the UK last year. After just a few seconds of holding the amplifier outside the window, the car door unlocked, allowing T to simply open the door and start up the engine. Once the engine had started, the accomplice could take the amplifier, jump in the car and they drove off, with the entire theft taking less than 20 seconds. Asked if they feel anything for the people they steal from they respond: 'These cars are insured, that's like, that a first world problem, you know, there's bigger s*** going on out there,. "Like your f***ng Range Rover 's gone, boo-hoo, go and buy another one, man.' The men claimed they have taken up to 20 vehicles a month for as much as £5,000 per car, depending on its value. They told Shea that up to 90 per cent of cars are broken down for their parts. Last year approximately 355 vehicles were stolen every day in England and Wales. The shocking finds equate to a stolen car every four minutes, and more than 70 per cent the amount stolen a decade ago. Freedom of Information requests to police forces in England and Wales also reveal that – for the 18 forces who responded - only 3.4 per cent of reports of a car being stolen between 2020 and 2024 led to someone being charged or summonsed. In the documentary, criminals revealed how highly organised gangs stole cars, dismantling them at so called 'chop shops' before shipping them out of the country to Eastern Europe. The programme reveals how a blue Audi A4, fitted with a hidden tracker, was stolen from a woman's driveway in north London on March 15. The car's GPS signal showed the Audi moving east towards the borough of Enfield and then switching off. Five weeks later, the tracker suddenly reappeared in Kaunas, Lithuania, and was tracked to a business in the outskirts of the city called Baltic Car Trade. Dispatches filmed the police raid on the property, but instead of finding a blue Audi A4, all they found that was left of the vehicle was a bunch of wires. The car, like many stolen off British streets, was long gone having been torn apart. 5 5

Labour climate envoy 'living like a travel writer' after racking up 75,000 air miles in just nine months

Labour's climate envoy has been accused of living like a 'travel writer' after it emerged she has effectively circled the globe three times in her new role. Rachel Kyte has clocked up more than 75,000 air miles since her appointment in September – costing taxpayers almost £40,000. The majority of her flights were in business class, according to details released to The Telegraph via a Freedom of Information request. Ms Kyte, an academic and fan of environmental group Extinction Rebellion, was recruited by Ed Miliband in September as the UK's new 'special representative for climate'. She has previously admitted her carbon footprint was 'a source of deep discomfort', but she visited a foreign country every month between October and May. Her personal carbon footprint for the flights alone could be as high as 15 metric tonnes of CO2. The average carbon footprint per person in the UK is around 12.7 metric tonnes of CO2, for a whole year. Ms Kyte racked up the miles – costing a total of £38,769 – on trips to Dar es Salaam, Cape Town, Washington DC and Riyadh, among other far-flung destinations. According to the Government's website, her objectives are to 'build the UK's profile as a progressive climate leader' and 'drive for results in the clean energy transition and green and inclusive growth'. She told the New Statesman in 2021, while working at a university in Massachusetts: 'Having worked internationally for years, and with family on the other side of the Atlantic and friends spread across the world, the carbon footprint wrapped up in my social and professional identity is a source of deep discomfort.' The Foreign Office said all Ms Kyte's travel complied with internal travel policies, and her 'international diplomacy has supported efforts to unlock more private finance to tackle the climate crisis and taken forward our mission to be a clean energy superpower'. Richard Tice, deputy leader of Reform UK, said: 'The climate envoy is more like a travel writer travelling around the world to exotic locations.' Earlier this year, the Mail revealed that Ms Kyte was among a string of Extinction Rebellion cheerleaders recruited by Mr Miliband to government roles. She is one of a trio of advisers who have expressed public admiration for the radical direct action group that has repeatedly brought chaos to Britain's streets. Ms Kyte previously sported an Extinction Rebellion badge at an international climate summit and praised an eco-activist who glued herself to the pavement outside Shell's headquarters in London. The Mail also revealed this year that civil servants at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) spent more than £700,000 of taxpayer cash on luxury air travel last year, with staff flying business and premium economy 237 times in 12 months.

Land Rover has revealed a new special-edition Defender that harks back to its classic Camel Trophy cars, gaining off-road accessories and retro paint colours. Based on the mid-sized Defender 110, it gains 20in alloy wheels, a choice of Deep Sandglow Yellow or Keswick Green paint – contrasted against a black bonnet, wheel arches and roof – and a black leather interior. The dashboard panel is also painted to match the car's exterior colour. The optional Trophy Edition accessory pack (£4995) adds a roof rack, exterior panniers, an air-intake snorkel, a roof ladder and mud flaps. Matt-finish paint protection film can also be had as an optional extra. Although the new Defender isn't officially referred to as a Camel Trophy car (almost certainly due to the taboo that has enveloped tobacco firms since the sponsored off-road competition ended in 2000), it embraces the look and spirit of the cars that competed in the annual rally. Indeed, Land Rover said the Trophy Edition is a celebration of its 'rich history of adventure challenges' and that its yellow shade is 'synonymous with Defenders used on international Trophy-style events'. The Trophy Edition will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which takes place from 10-13 July. Prices start at £ 89,810. This comes after Land Rover Classic built 25 examples of the original Defender inspired by the Camel Trophy, with graphics and modifications closely referencing the expeditions. Revealed in 2021, that model sold out in just three days, despite its sizeable £195,000 price tag. A second run of 25 such models came a year later.
