Milwaukee Bucks championship ring stolen from Bobby Portis in River Hills home burglary

Nearly $1.5 million worth of Bobby Portis' belongings, including the basketball star's 2021 Milwaukee Bucks championship ring, were stolen from his River Hills home in the November burglary that seven members of a South American theft group now face charges for.
Portis returned from the Nov. 2 Milwaukee Bucks game to find a smashed window and a "ransacked" bedroom, according to a police report released to the Journal Sentinel Tuesday. A safe containing the $1 million championship ring, several watches, jewelry and personal items was missing.
After a months-long investigation, federal prosecutors in Florida charged seven Chilean men on Tuesday Feb. 18 with burglarizing the homes of high-profile professional athletes, including Portis, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Joe Burrow.
The River Hills Police Department released the document to media starting on Feb. 21 after a months-long court negotiation with media over the report. The department also released the video surveillance footage of the robbery, showing the burglars breaking into the home through the front door and leaving with what appears to be a safe.
In a statement sent to the Journal Sentinel Feb. 25, River Hills Police Chief Michael Gaynor said the report was released as a result of the charges being filed on Feb. 18.
According to the police report:
Portis returned home from a Bucks game on Nov. 2, 2024 to find that his bedroom window had been smashed and his safe had been stolen, along with multiple other items.
Among the items Portis eventually reported stolen was the 2021 NBA championship ring, along with several Rolex watches, luxury travel bags full of clothes, jewelry pieces, $50,000 in cash and personal letters and photos. The green-and-silver championship ring had 400 diamonds and was valued at $1 million.
Portis called police around 11:21 p.m., and officers arrived at the scene to inspect the house and conduct interviews with Portis' and friends and family who had shown up in support.
The officer observed signs of the burglary all over Portis' room: glass all over the floors and opened drawers as though someone had rummaged through them.
Video surveillance footage installed in Portis' home showed two masked individuals walk up to Portis's bedroom door, peek through the windows and shatter the glass with a window breaker.
The suspects entered the bedroom at 6:59 p.m. and exited Portis' home with the safe and other items eight minutes later at 7:07 p.m.
The ensuing investigation involved interviewing neighbors and others close to Portis, multiple search warrants and collaboration with other agencies to connect Portis' case to the other cases.
The members of the South American theft group are charged with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property in a federal court in Tampa, Florida. If convicted, the charges carry up to 10 years in prison.
On Wednesday, Feb. 19, the day after the charges were filed, Portis told reporters he was pleased to see the charges.
"It's like you put all you can into the game and then you come home and just all your belongings are gone, things you worked hard for," he said. "It's kind of gratifying that these guys have been caught. Obviously, because you work so hard for your things."

Stephen A. Smith Doesn't Hesitate on Brutal Take About Giannis Antetokounmpo

Stephen A. Smith Doesn't Hesitate on Brutal Take About Giannis Antetokounmpo originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Giannis Antetokounmpo has made his hunger for another title perfectly clear. While many sources interpreted this as a desire to be traded, he has since clarified that he wants to win it with the Milwaukee Bucks. Advertisement He was in title-winning form until the very end. But, Damian Lillard's injury and other problems in the offense ended his playoff run early against the Indiana Pacers. Antetokounmpo averaged 30.4 points with 11.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists last season. However, Stephen A. Smith expressed during ESPN's "First Take" that he will consider Antetokounmpo an "underachiever" if he doesn't win another title. "He's one of the greatest players to ever play the game," He explained his take. "Over the last four years, minimum 200 games, Giannis second in the league, 30.4 points per game. Fifth in the league, 11.7 rebounds per game." Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is chasing another ring, but will that be with the Bucks?© Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images "Fifth among qualifiers at 58% from the field. And nine All-NBA selections in his career. Nine All-Star selections. And top ten finishes in league MVP voting nine times. And he does, and he has more of that than post-season series wins. That's unacceptable." He said. Advertisement Smith then clarifies that he isn't blaming Antetokounmpo for it. He just believes that Antetokounmpo deserves more for a man of his calibre. "It's not his fault. I'm not in any way pointing to him or what he's not doing." He clarified. I'm saying that you don't look at somebody that dominant, that fantastic, with that kind of fire in his belly to compete on a night-in, night-out basis, and all you have is one championship to show for it." Smith expects to see another ring on his finger and so do his fans. It was a major heartbreak for the Bucks fandom to see Antetokounmpo perform his absolute best and still lose to the Pacers. But the man himself is ready to start next season. Giannis Antetokounmpo Sends Three-Word Message After Bucks Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo put persistent trade rumors to rest this week by publicly reaffirming his commitment to the franchise. In a recent interview with Brazilian media, he declared, "I hope to be back soon with the Bucks," despite speculation fueled by the team's third straight first‑round exit and concerns over limited roster resources. The three‑word message quickly went viral, resonating with supporters who have followed his journey from Greece to NBA stardom. Antetokounmpo feels immense indebtedness for the Milwaukee franchise and wants to retire donning the green jersey. NBA Insider Shams Charania was the first to reveal that Antetokounmpo potentially is having doubts about his future at the club back in April. The story gained immense traction on social media. However, fans on social media are now calling out the false reports. Advertisement Antetokounmpo himself posted on X, throwing shade at Charania, 'Does anyone else miss Woj?!'—a veiled reference to former insider Adrian Wojnarowski. 'I think we're all good,' he said, noting his respect for both Giannis and Wojnarowski as mentors and colleagues. Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo escapes injury after scary on-court accident

The post Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo escapes injury after scary on-court accident appeared first on ClutchPoints. Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo almost suffered an injury during his trip to South America. Advertisement Antetokounmpo traveled to Brazil this month, as a viral video showed him in the country on Monday. He was present in Rio de Janeiro to dedicate a basketball court in his name in the city. In front of the crowd that gathered at the court to see him, Antetokounmpo decided to inaugurate the court with a dunk. Unfortunately for him, he slipped on the court as he was going up for the jam and took a pretty hard spill. On the bright side, he seems to not have injured himself when he fell, giving the Bucks and their fans plenty of relief to not see him hurt. What's next for Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks Kyle Ross-Imagn Images Giannis Antetokounmpo has a lot of recognition as an international star in the NBA, whether it's in Greece, Brazil, or other parts of the world. His presence in Brazil is proof that he is one of the highly recognizable faces of the league. Advertisement This past season saw him continue his individual dominance with the Bucks. After 67 regular-season games, he averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. In the postseason, he produced 33 points, 15.4 rebounds, 6.6 assists, a steal, and a block per contest. However, the Bucks have been unable to replicate their championship success in 2021. They have lost in the first round since 2023, the last two postseasons ending against the Indiana Pacers. Antetokounmpo wants to continue competing at a high level, but his future with the Bucks is now in a difficult spot. His co-star Damian Lillard will be out for most of next season due to a torn Achilles, meaning the team's floor and ceiling won't be as high. Milwaukee also doesn't have enough cap space to significantly bolster the roster, meaning they would have to make trades to land players who can fit alongside Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo wants to remain loyal to the team that drafted him and he won a championship with. However, if things don't take a turn for the better, he will look elsewhere as his future with the Bucks is on the line moving forward.
