Micah Parsons: Waiting on contract extension is going to cost Cowboys more
No one can figure out what the Cowboys are doing by waiting to sign their star players to contract extensions. They have even edge rusher Micah Parsons puzzled.
Parsons became eligible for a contract extension after the 2023 season. He still is waiting.
The four-time Pro Bowler acknowledged he plans to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league, and with edge rushers T.J. Watt and Trey Hendrickson also awaiting contract extensions, Parsons said it's likely going to cost Jerry Jones more money.
'It's going to cost them more,' Parsons told Clarence Hill of All City DLLS on Thursday.
Parsons and Jones confirmed to Hill they had a handshake deal in March, but Jones never called Parsons' agent, David Mulugheta, to finalize it.
Parsons told Hill he has seen the deal Watt is seeking from the Steelers, and it is more than he and Jones discussed. Thus, Parsons expects that his final number will go higher than originally thought.
The highest-paid non-quarterback is Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase, who is making $40.25 million annually.
Parsons is hopeful of completing a deal before the Cowboys begin training camp on July 21. Otherwise, he said he will report but not practice.
He is headed into the final year of his rookie deal scheduled to make $24 million on the fifth-year option.

The loss has implications for the Commissioner's Cup standings, too. Entering Saturday, the Liberty were in position to host the Seattle Storm in the championship game July 1. But those chances were greatly diminished by the loss. The Liberty are 9-1 this season and 3-1 in the Commissioner's Cup games. 'It is what it is. It's something we can't change,' Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said. 'We would've loved to be there. And obviously we're going to have to have some massive help on our side. But in the end, it's about being the best team at the end of the season and that's where we got to make sure that we continue to focus on.' The Fever were much more disruptive and met the Liberty with physicality. The Liberty, though, had several defensive breakdowns, which led to open looks and easy buckets. New York paid the price by sometimes leaving the corners open. Lexie Hull knocked down three 3-pointers, and Sydney Colson added two. '[The Fever] executed well, and we had so many breakdowns on defense and they made shots,' Brondello said. 'They really punished us on that end, making 17 3s on 35 [attempts], it was just too wide open. So little lack of communication. … A lot of things that we can learn and … we're nowhere near where we need to be.'

It's a highly anticipated matchup, with Aaron Rodgers playing his first game against the Jets after his controversial fallout with head coach Aaron Glenn. On the other side, Jets quarterback Justin Fields will be facing off against his former squad that benched him after a 4-2 start. Advertisement Now, star Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner is stirring the pot a little bit. Gardner flirted with the idea of messing with the infamous Terrible Towel in Week 1. "I don't know. Pittsburgh, you get a little in the trenches in there," Gardner said when asked about possibly messing with the Terrible Towel. "I might have to tread lightly, but we play (in New York). We on home court. I don't know, I've got to think about it." The Steelers' Terrible Towel has a long, cursed history for opponents in the NFL. Before a playoff game against the Cleveland Browns in 1994, Steelers defensive tackle Brenton Buckner dropped one such towel during player introductions. Browns running back Earnest Byner wasted no time, stepping on the towel and yelling "We don't care about your towel. We're going to beat you this time." Houshmandzadeh wiped his feet on the towel after scoring a touchdown in a 2005 regular season game. The Steelers came back to defeat Cincinnati 31-17 in the playoffs, en route to a Super Bowl XL victory, igniting a five-year playoff drought for the Bengals. Before a 2008 matchup at Heinz Field, Ravens receiver Derrick Mason stomped on a Terrible Towel. The Ravens dropped all three of their matchups against the Steelers that year, including the 2008 AFC Championship game. In 2009, at a public sendoff in Phoenix before the Arizona Cardinals headed off for Super Bowl XLIII, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon pulled out a towel and called over Cardinals' mascot Big Red to the stage. Big Red used the towel to wipe his armpits, and Gordon blew his nose in the towel. The Steelers would go on to beat the Cardinals in the Super Bowl 27-23. Most recently, in 2023, Jacksonville Jaguars safety Andrew Winged picked off a pass and proceeded to grab Terrible Towels with his teammates, waiving them around and mocking Steelers fans. At that point in the season, the Jaguars looked like favorites to win the division. Instead, Jacksonville completely collapsed and missed the playoffs. The Jaguars are 7-19 since.
