Nykaa gets a margin facelift as Q4 profit doubles
BENGALURU: FSN E-Commerce Ventures, which operates Nykaa, reported a 110% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 19 crore for the March quarter, with margin gains in its core beauty segment and improved performance from its eB2B and retail operations.
Revenue rose 24% year-on-year to Rs 2,062 crore in the quarter ended March 2025, while Ebitda increased 43% to Rs 133 crore. Ebitda margin improved to 6.5% from 5.6% a year earlier.
For FY25, consolidated revenue stood at Rs 7,950 crore, up 24%, while gross merchandise value (GMV) rose 25% to Rs 15,604 crore. Annual net profit grew 81% to Rs 72 crore. The company attributed the growth to contribution from owned brands, retail expansion, and operating leverage in the beauty business.
Nykaa's beauty vertical reported GMV of Rs 11,775 crore in FY25, growing 30% year-on-year. 'In Q4, we delivered a 9.6% Ebitda margin in beauty, the highest in the last eight quarters,' said Anchit Nayar, executive director and CEO, Nykaa Beauty. 'This is the result of improved gross margins and cost efficiency, not just scale.'
The company's owned brand portfolio under the House of Nykaa crossed Rs 1,700 crore in GMV.

Dot & Key led the segment with GMV of over Rs 900 crore in FY25. Anchit noted the brand's post-acquisition growth was driven by new formats and strong customer retention. 'Dot & Key is now among the top skincare brands across marketplaces, not just on our platform,' he said. Nykaa Cosmetics and Kay Beauty recorded GMVs of Rs 350 crore and Rs 240 crore respectively.
The offline retail channel also showed momentum, with 50 stores added during FY25, the company's largest annual expansion, taking the total count to 237 stores across 79 cities.
Retail GMV grew 31% year-on-year, while same-store sales increased 15%. 'Offline beauty retail is delivering both growth and profitability,' Anchit said. 'We now have a strong foundation across metros and tier 1 cities to deepen store productivity.
'
The company's eB2B arm, Superstore by Nykaa, posted GMV of Rs 941 crore, growing 57% over FY24. Contribution margin improved by 484 basis points to -12.6%. The unit was recently demerged into Nykaa E-Retail following NCLT approval.
Commenting on the overall performance, group chairperson and MD Falguni Nayar said, 'FY25 reflects our ability to grow consistently while improving profitability. From here, the focus will be on margin expansion across verticals through leverage and operating discipline.'
Nykaa Fashion, which has struggled with lower operating leverage compared to the beauty segment, saw a gradual recovery in Q4 with GMV growth of 18% year-on-year.
However, full-year GMV grew at a more modest 12%, even as revenue rose 19% aided by marketing income and platform fees. Segment Ebitda margin improved to -8.3% in FY25, from -10.3% a year ago.
'The margin profile is improving because we've made deliberate choices in terms of assortment and fulfillment strategy,' Abhijeet Dabas, executive vice president and business head of fashion e-commerce told analysts. 'We focused on better curation, higher-quality traffic, and expanding our private-label play, and those changes are beginning to reflect in contribution margins.'
Dabas added that fashion as a vertical is being rebuilt around core brand clusters and structural efficiencies. 'This is not a GMV-first strategy. We are prioritising retention and frequency from high-intent users, and scaling categories where we see a clear path to contribution profit,' he said.

Tech companies seek higher power limit for Wi-Fi devices
The tech industry urges a review of Wi-Fi power levels in the 6 GHz band. They seek alignment with global standards for better performance and affordable devices. The Department of Telecommunications is drafting rules for low-power wireless systems. Industry experts believe current power levels may limit device range. Broadband India Forum requests delicensing of additional spectrum for economic benefits. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads The technology industry wants the power levels permitted for Wi-Fi and other devices to be used under the 6 GHz spectrum band to be reviewed and aligned with global standards, so that users can get the best performances and devices remain Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has come out with draft rules for use of low power and very low power wireless systems in the lower 6 GHz band, which has been delicensed, or will be allocated without auctions. Once the consultation on the draft rules is over, the final rules will be notified allowing the latest Wi-Fi routers and gaming consoles to work in per experts, the current power levels proposed by DoT may limit the range and throughput of very low power devices. The DoT has proposed a maximum power spectral density (PSD) level of -5 dBm/MHz and total transmit power of 14 dBm for such industry wants it to be revised to 1 dBm/MHz for very low power indoor and outdoor devices otherwise it could have a major impact on the performance of Wi-Fi advanced applications such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) collectively, which demand high throughput and latency this increase is not beneficial to applications requiring wide channel bandwidth sizes of 80/160/320MHz, it can incrementally help with very low power applications utilising 20 MHz and 40 MHz channel per Broadband India Forum (BIF), which counts tech majors like Meta, Google, Microsoft, Amazon as members, the permitted power levels need to be reviewed so as to permit equitable distribution of devices in indoor and outdoor environments."Also, it needs to be aligned with global best practices to enable use of affordably priced devices in India," BIF President TV Ramachandran also reiterated the demand to delicense another 160 MHz spectrum in the 6 GHz band so that the full economic benefits can be realised. The government has so far delicensed 500 MHz spectrum ((5925-6425 MHz) in the band."The complete benefits of license exemption of 6GHz spectrum band can only be realised when at least an additional 160 MHz is delicensed - bringing the total to at least 660 MHz," Ramachandran 84 countries, including the US, UK and South Korea, have already delicensed the 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi services.

Middle-class Indians found themselves at heart of nation's progress in these 11 years: Centre
New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): The Modi government at the Centre, just days away from turning 11, said people's hopes, needs and aspirations have not just been heard, but also acted upon with purpose, as it highlighted several initiatives taken up by the government. In a report released by the Press Information Bureau Research Unit on Thursday, the government said that, from tax relief leaving more money in people's hands to pension schemes that promise security in old age, the last eleven years have seen a steady and sincere effort to make life easier, fairer, and more dignified for Indians. 'The government has cut through red tape, simplified rules and made everyday systems work better. Be it filing taxes, buying a home, commuting to work or affording medicines, things have become simpler and more accessible. These are not scattered changes but a pattern of reforms that speak to the real concerns of ordinary citizens. What stands out is the consistency,' the report's preamble read. Over the past eleven years, the government said it has gone beyond token measures to make a real difference in the lives of the middle class. From lowering income tax rates to simplifying returns, every move, it said, has been aligned with the core idea of letting citizens keep more of what they earn. 'The approach has been clear. Listen to citizens, simplify the system and deliver on promises,' the report card said. The most recent tax reforms, especially those in the Union Budget 2025-26, are a clear sign that the Government has placed its trust in the middle class as a pillar of national growth. It said the effort has been constant and focused, whether raising the income threshold for zero tax, introducing a simplified tax regime, or making return filing easier than ever. A major change was announced in the Union Budget 2025-26: individuals earning up to Rs 12 lakh annually will now pay no income tax, except on special incomes like capital gains. With the standard deduction of Rs 75,000, even those earning Rs 12.75 lakh will pay no tax. These enhanced tax exemptions led to the government giving up nearly Rs 1 lakh crore in revenue. The government has once again lauded itself for making income tax return filings simple. According to the government, the simplification in ITR filing is reflected in the rise of individual ITR filings, which increased from 3.91 crore in 2013-14 to 9.19 crore in 2024-25, a 135 per cent rise. On the inflation management front, the government boasted that the price rise remained under control under the current administration. 'Things began to change from 2014. Over the next eleven years, inflation came under firm control. From 2015-16 to 2024-25, the average rate fell to just 5 per cent. The difference is visible not only in the numbers but in daily life. Stable prices gave families breathing room,' the report read. The report touched upon reform-oriented initiatives such as Unified Pension Scheme, Smart Cities Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), expansion in metro network, UDAN scheme, Ayushman Bharat, Jan Aushadhi scheme, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, among others.
