Vote: Who are Bolton Wanderers' best players from the Premier League era?
EVERY Wanderers fan knows the tale which unfolded at Wembley on May 29, 1995.
At 2-0 down, Bruce Rioch's side conceded a penalty to Reading, and their hopes of reaching the Premier League were fading fast.
Keith Branagan's save triggered one of the old stadium's greatest-ever comebacks, as Owen Coyle and Fabian De Freitas forced the game into extra time and the Whites went on to claim a 4-3 victory with further strikes from Mixu Paatelainen and De Freitas.
Thirty years on, we look back at the 13 years that Bolton spent in the rebranded top-flight. The hits, the misses, the celebrations and the controversy.
And we are kicking things off by saluting the 175 different players who pulled on a Wanderers shirt in the Premier League, giving supporters a chance to contribute to our definitive top 50.
Every player is there to be picked – from that first season in 1995/96, including Sasa Curcic, John McGinlay, Gudni Bergsson and David Lee to the 1997/98 campaign under Colin Todd, with Nathan Blake, Per Frandsen and Michael Johansen.
And of course, the 11-year run from Sam Allardyce's European heroes – Jay-Jay Okocha, Youri Djorkaeff, Kevin Davies, Kevin Nolan, Jussi Jaaskelainen and the like, to the latter-day heroes like Ivan Klasnic, Chung-Yong Lee, Fabrice Muamba, Mark Davies and Stu Holden.
The list will be decided by two different votes. The first has gone to a specially selected group of BWFC supporters, media and club officials, who have all suppled their own version of the top 50.
But we are also opening the vote up to the public too, and you can select up to 25 players from our list who you feel are worthy of a place in our final table.
The voting opens today (Tuesday, May 13) and will run until Sunday, May 18 at noon. All votes will then be checked and organised into a final top 50, which will be published in The Bolton News on May 29.
We will also be recording a special two-part edition of our popular podcast, The Buff, discussing who made the list and who missed out, and a from the start of June, we will be running a series of features looking back at each season in the top-flight, bringing back some of the special memories which were made.

Bruno Fernandes turns down lucrative Al Hilal offer to stay at Man United
MUNICH (AP) — Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has turned down a proposed move to Saudi club Al Hilal because he wants 'to play at the highest possible level.' Fernandes confirmed Tuesday that he had received an 'exciting offer' from the Riyadh-based club to switch after what was a disappointing season for United. 'They waited for me to think about my future, because I said only if Manchester thought it was the time to move on, that I'd be willing to do so,' Fernandes said through an interpreter. 'I talked to the gaffer, Ruben Amorim, and at the time he asked me not to go. I then talked to Man United. They said they didn't want to sell me. If I wanted to go, I could, but they didn't need the money, they didn't need to sell me.' Media reports suggested Al Hilal was prepared to pay 100 million pounds ($135 million) to take the 30-year-old Fernandes from United while offering him a wage of 700,000 pounds ($946,000) per week to play for the Saudi Pro League team, which will compete in the Club World Cup this month in the United States. 'It was a very exciting offer,' Fernandes said. 'The president of Al Hilal, he was very nice to me. He talked to my manager but then I talked to my wife and as a family we wanted to see what I wanted to do. She asked me, what do you want to do with your future?' Fernandes last year signed a contract extension to stay at Old Trafford until June 2027. This season did not go as planned as the Red Devils failed to qualify for the Champions League after finishing 15th in the Premier League, while United also endured the heartbreak of losing the Europa League final to Tottenham. 'We had goals and we didn't meet them,' said Fernandes, a key figure for United since his arrival in January 2020. He said it would have been easy for the family to make the move to Riyadh, and for him to adjust to the team with Portugal teammates Rúben Neves and João Cancelo already playing for Al Hilal. 'I'm used to them, but I want to play at the highest possible level," Fernandes said. "I want play for major competitions. I know I still can, and I want to be happy doing the thing I love the most. And for better or worse, I'm still very passionate about football. This is how I see football. This is how I see my life and my future, and I'm happy about the decision I made.' Fernandes was speaking as a Portugal player before the team's Nations League semifinal against Germany on Wednesday in Munich. The winner of that game will face either France or Spain in Sunday's final.

Leverkusen sign Flekken from Brentford
Bayer Leverkusen have announced the signing of goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Brentford. The 31-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Bundesliga side in an undisclosed deal that is reportedly worth €10 million. Advertisement Flekken initially joined the Bees from Freiburg in summer 2023 to replace the outgoing David Raya and has since then featured 77 times for the club. During the 2024/25 season, Flekken made 150 seasons in total – the most of any goalkeeper in the top five European leagues – with a save percentage of 73.4. "Mark has proven to be a seamless replacement for David Raya, who set an extremely high standard during his years with us," said Brentford Director of Football, Phil Giles "We were expecting Mark to be our goalkeeper for many more years, however when Bayer Leverkusen made it known that they wanted to do this transfer, and Mark made it clear that he was interested in moving closer to home and with a possibility of Champions League football, we turned our attention towards how all parties could make this happen. "Mark has done a great job for us and leaves with our thanks and support."

Nottingham Forest hope Nicolas Dominguez will recover from knee injury before start of new season
Nottingham Forest hope that Nico Dominguez will recover for the start of the new Premier League season after the midfielder suffered a knee injury. Dominguez has had to withdraw from international duty with Argentina because of the problem, which has seen him require treatment to repair a meniscus issue. Advertisement The 26-year-old established himself as a regular under Nuno Espirito Santo in the final stages of the campaign, as Forest secured European football for the first time in three decades. His form was enough to earn him a call-up for the World Cup qualifiers in Chile on June 6 and at home to Colombia on June 11. Dominguez last played for his country in a 0-0 draw with Brazil in November 2021, but will have to wait a little while longer for his next cap. Dominguez, who signed from Bologna in September 2023, made 23 starts and 11 substitute appearances in the top flight for Forest last season, as Forest pushed for a top-five finish – before ultimately finishing seventh, to secure a place in the Conference League next season. The player, who began his career at Velez Sarsfield in his home country, will be assessed in the coming weeks and throughout pre-season. But there is a hope that he could yet return for the start of the new campaign in August, if his recovery timeline goes positively.
