Joins IACC Marketplace Advisory Council Alongside Global Brands and Platforms
SAN DIEGO, May 20, 2025 /CNW/ -- Temu, the global online marketplace, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition (IACC) to deepen collaboration on intellectual property protection and expand efforts to combat online counterfeiting.
The MoU was signed during the IACC's 2025 Annual Conference in San Diego last week. As part of the collaboration, Temu has joined the IACC's newly launched Marketplace Advisory Council (MAC) as an inaugural member. The MAC is a cross-industry forum that includes leading online marketplaces, payment providers, and global brands, aimed at setting a new standard for cooperation in the fight against counterfeit goods.
"We're pleased to welcome Temu as an inaugural member of the Marketplace Advisory Council and as a key partner in our shared fight against counterfeiting," said Bob Barchiesi, President, International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition. "This MoU reflects a meaningful step forward in our collaboration, grounded in transparency, accountability, and a joint commitment to consumer protection. The IACC created the MAC to bring stakeholders together in a way that drives real, sustained impact—and Temu's participation helps strengthen that vision."
The MAC offers a collaborative platform where e-commerce platforms, payment companies, and brand owners can work together, share insights, and forge stronger partnerships to address one of the digital economy's most persistent challenges: the proliferation of counterfeit goods online.
"Joining this coalition underscores Temu's commitment to building a trustworthy online marketplace," said a Temu spokesperson. "We look forward to collaborating with other industry leaders to create a powerful, collective force against the sale of illegal goods online."
Since launching in 2022, Temu has invested heavily in intellectual property enforcement. Measures include:
Comprehensive seller vetting and compliance training
Round-the-clock algorithmic monitoring supported by manual review
A dedicated IP protection portal and brand registry for streamlined takedown submissions
An internal enforcement team handling claims with high speed and accuracy
In addition to Temu, other members of the IACC MAC include e-commerce platforms Amazon, and eBay; payments providers Mastercard, PayPal, and Visa; as well as global brands such as Apple, Chanel, Colgate-Palmolive, Disney, Ford, Johnson & Johnson, and Nike.
Temu is a global e-commerce platform connecting consumers with millions of manufacturers, brands, and business partners. Operating in more than 90 markets worldwide, Temu is committed to providing affordable, high-quality products that enable customers to live better lives.

Shein risks fines over breaches of EU consumer law

Pages from the Shein website, left, and from the Temu site, right, are shown in this photo, in New York, June 23, 2023. (AP Photo/Richard Drew, File) Brussels, Belgium — Shein risks potential fines after the EU warned the e-commerce platform Monday over a series of practices that infringe the bloc's consumer laws, from fake discount deals to misleading product information. The Chinese-founded platform has a month to reply and offer commitments on addressing the issues found during a probe launched in February by the European Commission with consumer authorities in Belgium, France, Ireland and The Netherlands. Shein said it was working with the authorities to tackle the concerns. Consumers using Shein faced a range of tactics including 'false purchase deadlines' to put them under pressure to buy quickly from the platform, the commission said. It also said there was 'missing, incorrect and misleading information' about consumers' legal rights to return goods and receive refunds, and deceptive labels that suggested a product offered something special that was already required by law. The EU also accused Shein of providing false information about the sustainability benefits of its products. 'EU consumer protection laws are not optional -- they must be applied in all cases,' said the EU's top consumer protection official, Michael McGrath. 'It's now for Shein to step up, respect the rules and bring its practices fully in line with EU consumer standards,' he added. A Shein spokesperson said: 'We have been working constructively with national consumers authorities and the EU Commission to demonstrate our commitment to complying with EU laws and regulations, and we are continuing to engage in this process to address any concerns.' The EU last week said it was preparing to impose a two-euro (US$2.30) flat fee on the billions of low-value packages that flood into the bloc each year, which would affect popular platforms like Temu and Shein.

The iconic designs of Jony Ive

NEW YORK (AP) — Jony Ive is renowned for crafting a meticulous product design aesthetic that shaped the tech cultural zeitgeist during a 27-year career at Apple. He did his most influential work after Apple co-founder Steve Jobs returned to run the company in 1997, where the two forged a partnership that would hatch a succession of game-changing products like the iPhone in 2007. Ive ultimately left the company in 2019. Ive's name was thrust back into the spotlight on Wednesday when ChatGPT maker OpenAI recruited him and his design firm, LoveFrom, to lead a new hardware project. But OpenAI CEO Sam Altman can only hope this still-blossoming partnership works out as well as the mind-meld between former Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Ive. Ive became the paintbrush that Jobs used to bring his visions to life. The London-born Ive became the voice of Apple's effort to blend technological wizardry with sleek elegance. The company's TV commercials and product announcements were renowned for Ive discussing the intricacies of his designs in British-accented voiceovers spoken in a hushed, almost reverential tone. After Jobs died in 2011, Ive continued carry the torch for his late boss while still striving to create products that were as aesthetically mesmerizing as they were ground breaking. Ive led design work on the Mac, iPod, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Wednesdays A weekly look towards a post-pandemic future. When he started LoveFrom, Ive derived the name from something Jobs once said about hailing humanity by 'making something with a great deal of care and love.' It's worked with brands like Airbnb, Ferrari and Moncler and created the coronation emblem for King Charles III. He also chose to base LoveForm in San Francisco's historic Jackson Square, located near bars and cafes that were once frequented by Beat Generation luminaries such as 'On The Road' author Jack Kerouac and 'Howl' author Allen Ginsberg.
