Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni provides an update on Jihaad Campbell's status
Let's all travel back to the conclusion of the first night of the 2025 NFL Draft. Remember that? The conversations about the Philadelphia Eagles and Howie Roseman don't change much. The aftermath of each selection meeting looks almost like a carbon copy of its predecessor.
Eagles fans take to social media to brag about their vice president/general manager's brilliance. His haters and detractors spend their time trying to convince anyone who will listen that he is somehow cheating.
Most have heard the complaints (or whining, depending on your paradigm). How does he keep doing this? How does he land Jalen Carter ninth overall and still acquire Nolan Smith at the end of the same first round?
How is it possible to acquire Quinyon Mitchell AND Cooper DeJean? How on Planet Earth did he snag Jihaad Campbell at 31? Most of those mysteries remain unsolved, but it wasn't difficult to crack the Jihaad Campbell puzzle.
Nick Sirianni offers a Jihaad Campbell update, but fans may not like what he said
Unless you've been busy or living under a rock, you've heard the stories about injuries contributing to Campbell's recent first-round slide. Philly liked what their doctors were telling them, though, and because of that, they invested first-round capital into adding him to the nest.
All spring and summer, everyone has hoped to hear two words... He's ready... Instead, Birds fans have been encouraged to exercise patience as each injury update sounds a lot like every other update that follows.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio spoke with the media at OTAs. Based on his response, Jihaad is expected to be on the shelf longer than most hope. That wasn't encouraging, but it was honest. It is what it is. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni spoke with the media during the mandatory minicamp session. As you might imagine, Jihaad's name came up again. Coach offered the expected response.
There's a beauty to being the defending Super Bowl champions and having a deep roster. The Eagles don't have to rush their rookie. As long as Campbell is "doing everything he can to get himself ready", the Birds can rest easy knowing they have a First-Team All-Pro (Zack Baun) and the son of a franchise legend (Jeremiah Trotter Jr.) on the roster.
And, don't forget about another rookie, Smael Mondon, and the young veteran Nakobe Dean. The latter is also battling injury but will return at some point during the season.
Campbell tallied 117 tackles, five sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles during his final season with the Alabama Crimson Tide. It's easy to see why everyone is excited, but don't lose sleep over it. The rookie will return at some point to active duty, and when he does, expect quality play and another playmaker for Fangio's defense.

Jets' Sauce Gardner Makes Decision on Flag Football Olympics Involvement

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The NFL has expanded its global reach for many years, and now there is a chance that many players could represent the United States in the 2028 Olympics. The sport of Flag Football has been approved as a sport, and this has led to much debate over professional football players participating in the sport. More news: Missouri Approves Millions to Keep Chiefs From Relocating Naturally, the world of professional flag football players is chock-full of elite athletes who would want to win a medal at the Olympics. However, NFL players are also in that same boat. While current NFL stars like Matthew Stafford and Patrick Mahomes have stated they are unlikely to participate, New York Jets star Sauce Gardner has stated he would be open to representing the U.S. Jets CB Sauce Gardner on potentially playing Olympic flag football: "I like it. I definitely would be interested in it, being able to play for my country. I think it's a big deal because every time it's the Olympics, I'm always watching, I'm always tuned in." — Underdog NFL (@UnderdogNFL) June 12, 2025 While speaking to the press, Gardner was asked if he would want to play Olympic flag football. He stated: "I like it. I definitely would be interested in it, being able to play for my country. I think it's a big deal because every time it's the Olympics, I'm always watching, I'm always tuned in." Winning the Super Bowl and entering the Hall of Fame are two of the greatest honors the NFL world has to offer, but to be able to represent your country in the Olympics is something far different. Flag football is categorically different, but the rules and play are derived from the game of football. That said, it would be believed that NFL players would be the first ones to be called on to represent the United States. It will be interesting to see how the selection committee handles which athletes are going to be part of Team USA for flag football. There is likely to be some sort of tryout to figure out the best team possible, and there are likely to be many NFL players who are going to try to participate in the Olympics. As far as Gardner goes, he is one of the league's best defenders, and the flag football team would likely be far better with him on the squad. For now, the NFL and Olympics selection committee are going to have their hands full with trying to find a middle ground on who gets the honor of representing the U.S. in the first-ever Olympic football event. Zack Baun hints at the Eagles defense being even better than top ranked unit from 2024

Zack Baun hints at the Eagles defense being even better than top ranked unit from 2024 During a recent appearance on The Exciting Mics podcast, All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun told Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship that the Eagles defense is miles ahead of where they were last year The Eagles were one of the most physical teams in the NFL last season, and their change in identity began with their late-season collapse in 2023. Vic Fangio entered as defensive coordinator, while Howie Roseman signed Saquon Barkley, Zack Baun, and Mekhi Becton, among others, to help bring physicality and attitude to a Super Bowl contender. Fangio's addition led to more padded and physical practices, which resulted in a 10-2 team and eight straight wins to start the previous season. Fangio's presence helped the Eagles become the No. 1 defense in the NFL, and the defensive coordinator was a finalist for the Assistant Coach of the Year award. During a recent appearance on The Exciting Mics podcast, All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun told Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship that the Eagles' defense is miles ahead of where they were last year. The defense has undergone an overhaul after defensive tackle Milton Williams (New England), Josh Sweat (Arizona), cornerback Darius Slay (Pittsburgh), cornerback Isaiah Rodgers (Minnesota), and linebacker Oren Burks (Cincinnati) all departed via free agency. In year one under Fangio, the Eagles (278.4 ypg) led the league in total defense for the seventh time in team history, having previously accomplished the feat in 1991, 1981, 1953, 1949, 1945, and 1944 (excludes the 1943 Steagles). Philadelphia was the second team since the 1970 merger to feature the NFL's rushing champion on offense while showcasing the league's No. 1 defense, joining the 1992 Cowboys (won Super Bowl XXVII). Philadelphia ranked 1st in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (174.2) for the second time in the last three years (also 2022, 179.8). Furthermore, the Eagles finished with the NFL lead in defensive points allowed per game (16.9 — their best figure since 15.8 in 2008), opponent three-and-out percentage (39.0%), and FFs (18, tied). Including playoffs, the Eagles were +27 in turnovers since Week 8. In that span, Philadelphia has 138 points off turnovers (6.6 per game).

New England Patriots to unveil Tom Brady statue before preseason game on Aug. 8

Tom Brady still has to wait a few years before he can wear a gold jacket. He'll be in bronze this summer, though. The New England Patriots announced Thursday that they will unveil a Brady statue at Gillette Stadium on Aug. 8 before their preseason game against the Washington Commanders. While Brady finished his storybook career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, even claiming his seventh and final Super Bowl victory with the NFC South club, he spent 20 of his 23 seasons in the NFL with the Patriots. Advertisement New England famously selected Brady out of Michigan with the 199th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He went on to outplay not only the six quarterbacks who were taken before him that year, but also every quarterback who's ever taken the field. Initially a feel-good story, Brady turned the Patriots into the league's greatest supervillain, ushering in the sport's most dominant dynasty to date — a six-Super Bowl reign that spanned two decades. Along the way, Brady also collected nine AFC championships and a whopping 17 AFC East titles. The three-time NFL MVP is the league's all-time leader in wins (251), Pro Bowl selections (15), Super Bowl MVPs (5), passing yards (89,214) and passing touchdowns (649). When the lights shone the brightest, Brady was at his best. He engineered 59 fourth-quarter victories after his team was either tied or trailing. Plus, no player has more seasons with a postseason appearance than he does. Advertisement Brady made the playoffs 20 times. Additionally, he's atop the league's all-time postseason leaderboard for wins (35), games started (48), Super Bowl appearances (10), Super Bowl wins (7), completions (1,200), passing yards (13,400), passing touchdowns (88), game-winning drives (14) and fourth-quarter comebacks (9). The Patriots Hall of Fame waived its usual four-year waiting period and inducted Brady in a sold-out Gillette Stadium on June 12, 2024.
