Bihar women to get monthly aid of Rs 2,500 if Cong voted to power: Supriya
Patna, May 27 (UNI) The Congress on Tuesday said that women of Bihar would be given a monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 if the party is voted to power in the next assembly elections due later this year.
Party's national spokesperson and in-charge of social media Supriya Shrinate told media that Congress has always worked hard to ensure economic and social empowerment of women.
"Former Delhi chief minister late Sheela Dikshit was the first in the country to roll out a financial assistance scheme for women", Shrinate said, adding the Dikshit government had started the scheme to deposit Rs 36,000 in bank accounts of mothers on the birth of a girl child in 2008. Girls were also being paid Rs 25,000 for their studies till class 12, she recalled.
"The Congress government in Karnataka offers a monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 to women. Nearly 1.35 crore women are getting the scheme's benefits," Srinate said. "Similarly, the party government in Himachal Pradesh gives Rs 1,500 per month to women. In Jharkhand, where Congress was a part of the coalition government, Rs 2,500 were being given to women per month," she pointed out.
She hit out at the NDA government headed by JD-U's Nitish Kumar, saying poverty was rampant in the state. The Congress leader said the socio-economic caste census had revealed that 94 lakh families had a monthly income of less than Rs 6,000. It meant that five crore people were surviving on a paltry sum of Rs 40 per day", she said.

The multi-party parliamentary delegation led by Congress leader Shashit Tharoor wrapped up its visit to the US after meeting with Vice President J D Vance and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau among political and diplomatic leaders, to drive home India's strong resolve to combat terrorism emanating from Pakistan. The delegation was on the last leg of a multi-nation tour to brief key interlocutors about Operation Sindoor that India launched in retaliation to the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. The delegation was one of the seven multi-party delegations India had tasked to visit 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community to emphasise Pakistan's links to terrorism. The Indian team met Vice President Vance, Landau, House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) leadership, India Caucus leadership and Senate Foreign Relations Committee leaders. It also held meetings and interactions with a host of US Congressmen, think tanks, policy experts, media as well as members of the Indian-American community. Tharoor described the meeting with Vance at the White House for about 25 minutes on Thursday as 'an excellent meeting,' and said the vice president was 'warm and welcoming and receptive.' 'Vance expressed complete understanding, first of all, outrage of what happened in Pahalgam and support and respect for India's restrained response in Operation Sindoor,' Tharoor told PTI after that meeting. The Indian Embassy said in a statement that during the meeting with Landau, the delegation briefed him on the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, discussed India's subsequent Operation Sindoor, and put forth India's firm resolve to counter cross-border terrorism in all its forms. On the last day of the delegation's scheduled meetings, the delegation paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue opposite the Indian Embassy here. "NDA, wish of people": Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha
Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 9 (ANI): With months to go for the Bihar assembly polls, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is the people's wish and a symbol of the state's development. He said that the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar were an opportunity to remove those who 'ruined' the state. 'Our leadership and alliance are strong, and there is no confusion anywhere. NDA is the wish of the people of Bihar, and it is a symbol of development. This is an opportunity to get rid of those people who ruined Bihar,' Sinha told ANI. His remarks came after Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan on Sunday announced that he would contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls. Speaking at a public gathering in Arrah, Paswan declared that his party would support the NDA in all 243 assembly seats to ensure its victory. 'For those who ask from where I will contest, I want to tell you that my party, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and I will contest on 243 seats to make NDA candidates win and strengthen the NDA alliance. My goal is that the NDA moves towards victory,' Chirag said. Making the announcement in Arrah, a traditionally weak region for JD(U), Paswan said he would not contest the election 'from Bihar but for Bihar.' He added that he would leave the decision of his candidacy and constituency to the people. 'I leave this decision to you (people). You decide whether I should contest the Bihar assembly elections, and from which seat. I will follow your decision,' he added. Paswan's recent announcement has ignited a debate about seat-sharing within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar. Paswan's demand for 40 seats, citing his party's 100 per cent strike rate in the last Lok Sabha polls, has raised eyebrows among NDA allies. The LJP is demanding 40 seats, while other allies like Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) are also seeking a handful of seats, while the BJP and JD (U) are reportedly eyeing 100 seats each. Paswan's aggressive posturing comes against the backdrop of the 2020 polls, where his party secured an almost 5.66 per cent vote share. This brought down the JD(U)'s tally from 71 in 2015 to 43, relegating it to third place behind the RJD and BJP. Bihar is expected to have its assembly elections later this year. "But my son will not return": Bengaluru stampede victim's family receives ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh
Tumkur (Karnataka) [India], June 9 (ANI): Devraj, father of deceased Manoj Kumar, who died in the Bengaluru stampede incident among 10 others, received ex-gratia worth Rs 25 lakh by the Karnataka government and said that he would use the relief funds for the benefit of his daughter, who still depends on him. He expressed deep sorrow over the demise of his child and said that the financial assistance given to his family wouldn't bring his son back to life. 'I have been given a cheque of Rs 25 lakhs, but my son will not return. I will not use this money for my benefit... I will put it in the account of my daughter and her mother and keep the money for her future,' Devraj told ANI. Earlier, Tumkur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Subha Kalyan said that the father of the deceased Manoj Kumar was given ex-gratia worth Rs 25 lakh from the Chief Minister's relief fund. '11 people lost their lives, one of them was Manoj Kumar from Tumkur district. Today, we received an order from the CM's office to immediately disburse a relief amount of Rs 25 lakh to his father, Devraj. We have handed him the cheque from the CM relief fund,' Kalyan told ANI. The DM stated that the deceased was a top student with over 85 per cent marks in Karnataka SSLC and was slated to go abroad to secure a job. 'He (the father) shared that he had a lot of dreams for his son, who was a topper and had scored more than 85 per cent in SSLC. He (the son) was slated to go to a foreign country for job opportunities. It is unfortunate that dreams, which a father carries, will not see the light of day,' she added. Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had ordered an increase in the compensation announced for the families of those who died in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede in Bengaluru to Rs 25 lakh each. Earlier, the government had announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has said that the details regarding the Bengaluru stampede incident will emerge after the probe concludes. The stampede that occurred during celebrations outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Indian Premier League (IPL) victory celebrations claimed 11 lives. 'Everything will be known after investigation, including who said what, what statements were given earlier, when, and by whom,' Parameshwara told reporters here. Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday said that a commission has been formed that is currently conducting an inquiry into the Bengaluru stampede incident, where 11 people had lost their lives on June 4 during RCB's IPL victory celebrations. He refrained from commenting on the matter, noting that the state's Home Minister would provide a detailed response.'The commission is conducting an inquiry. I will not say much. The Home Minister will reply,' Shivakumar said. Moreover, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said the government is seriously considering moving the city's cricket stadium to a new location to prevent such incidents in the future. Speaking to the media, Siddaramaiah expressed deep personal pain over the tragedy, confirmed that the government is contemplating long-term solutions, and said that the government can shift the stadium to a different place. 'The government will look into shifting the cricket stadium to another location,' he said.'Such an unpleasant incident should not happen under any government. Personally, this incident has hurt me and the government,' he added. 'Five police officers have been suspended in this case. The intelligence chief and the chief minister's political secretary have been replaced,' Siddaramaiah confirmed. (ANI)
