Trump family in phone service licensing deal, touts US$499 gold device

The new mobile venture, announced at Trump Tower in Manhattan, will operate using the networks of the three major US wireless carriers. Some key details about the venture, including those about the family's partner in the business and financial terms of their licensing deal, were not immediately disclosed.
'We are going to be introducing an entire package of products where people can come and they can get telemedicine on their phones for one flat monthly fee, roadside assistance on their cars, unlimited texting to 100 countries around the world,' said the president's eldest son, Donald Trump Jnr.
The new network will be available for a subscription price of US$47.45 per month, a reference to Trump, who was the 45th president in his previous term and is now serving as the 47th president.
The announcement also promoted the launch of a 'sleek, gold smartphone' that will be 'designed and built in the United States'.

US Senate passes stablecoin bill in win for crypto, Trump

The US Senate passed stablecoin legislation setting up regulatory rules for cryptocurrencies pegged to the dollar, in a landmark win for the ascendant crypto industry and President Donald Trump. The 68-30 vote on Tuesday evening marked a rare moment of bipartisanship in the deeply divided Senate, despite Republicans blocking Democratic efforts to bar Trump from profiting from his many crypto ventures while in office. A Trump-affiliated stablecoin already has a US$2 billion market value. The House has been pursuing its own legislation, including a more sweeping measure to regulate the broader crypto market. House lawmakers must now decide whether to take up the Senate bill or negotiate a compromise measure. Crypto titans who flooded money into last year's election with the best-funded alliance of corporate political action committees in US history have similar plans for the 2026 midterm elections. Dollar-pegged stablecoins would have to hold dollar-for-dollar reserves in short-term government debt or similar products overseen by state or federal regulators.

Hong Kong's CK Hutchison ports sale on thin ice amid US-China tensions: analysts

The US$23 billion sale of global port stakes by Hong Kong's CK Hutchison could be subject to substantial changes if it is not already on the verge of collapse, with Chinese and Panamanian authorities possibly rejecting the terms, legal and logistics experts have said ahead of the deal's deadline for exclusive negotiation. Their analysis followed national security and anti-monopoly concerns cited by both countries, with a recent news report suggesting that a state-owned shipping company was now involved in the negotiation to ease Beijing's concerns. The deal , which includes the Balboa and Cristobal ports at both ends of the Panama Canal, was caught in the crossfire of geopolitical tensions between the United States and China just weeks before a crucial July 27 exclusive negotiation deadline. The transaction involves CK Hutchison Holdings selling stakes in 43 ports to a consortium led by Terminal Investment Limited, an affiliate of the world's largest container line MSC, and US asset management giant BlackRock and Global Infrastructure Partners. 'The deal regarding price, due diligence and financing is basically done. What remains are the signoffs from the Panamanian and mainland authorities,' said Surinder Brrar, a professor of practice in global shipping and logistics at Polytechnic University. He described these approvals as 'big hurdles' that could derail the entire transaction if not surmounted.
