Babar, Rizwan tumble from ICC T20I top 10, Haris climbs into top 30

Listen to article In a significant reshuffle following Pakistan's recent T20I series against Bangladesh, former captains Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan have dropped out of the top 10 in the ICC Men's T20I Batting Rankings, while emerging batter Mohammad Haris has surged into the top 30 after a stellar performance. According to the latest rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday, Babar has fallen three places to 12th, while Rizwan has slipped one spot to 13th. The two had held positions in the top 10 for several months and were Pakistan's most consistent performers in the format, but were dropped from the recent T20I series against Bangladesh following a dismal run of form. No Pakistani player currently features in the top 10 of the T20I batting rankings. Despite the slide in senior players' rankings, the spotlight has shifted to rising talent Mohammad Haris, who made a remarkable jump of 210 positions to reach 30th. His explosive unbeaten 107 off 46 balls in the third T20I against Bangladesh capped off a successful series in which he also scored 41 and 31 in the earlier matches. Haris finished as the series' leading run-scorer with 167 runs at an impressive strike rate of 201.12. Youngster Hasan Nawaz, who ended the series as the second-highest run-getter with 121 runs, also made significant gains, climbing 57 places to reach the 46th spot. Saim Ayub improved four spots to 61st, while skipper Salman Ali Agha advanced 42 positions to 76th. Australia's Travis Head now tops the T20I batting charts, followed by India's Abhishek Sharma and England's Phil Salt in second and third places, respectively. On the bowling front, pacer Abbas Afridi moved up 18 places to share the 19th spot with South Africa's Anrich Nortje and Pakistan's Haris Rauf. Afridi impressed with figures of 2 for 26 in the high-scoring third T20I. All-rounder Shadab Khan also saw improvement, climbing 10 places to 14th in the ICC Men's T20I All-rounder Rankings after contributing 55 runs and four wickets across the series.

Pakistan to tour Bangladesh for three-match T20I series in July

Pakistan will travel to Bangladesh next month for a three-match T20I series starting July 20, marking the return leg of bilateral fixtures between the two sides. The tour has been confirmed by Pakistan's T20I captain Salman Ali Agha and comes on the heels of Bangladesh's recently concluded tour of Pakistan, where the hosts secured a dominant 3-0 series win. 'Our next tours are to Bangladesh and then the West Indies, where we expect spin-friendly conditions,' he said when asked about Pakistan's preparations for the T20 World Cup. 'Similarly, if the Asia Cup goes ahead as scheduled in the UAE, we'll encounter slow pitches there as well. So, there will be ample opportunity for the team to prepare and adapt accordingly.' The upcoming T20 World Cup is scheduled in India later this year. However, as part of the hybrid model approved by the ICC, Pakistan will not travel to India and play its matches at a neutral venue, most probably Sri Lanka. Pakistan women will not travel to India for World Cup, ICC confirms The short series in Bangladesh is being viewed as a key opportunity for both teams to test combinations ahead of a packed international calendar, with the ICC T20 World Cup looming next year. The first match of the series is scheduled for July 20, followed by fixtures on July 22 and July 24. The Bangladesh Cricket Board is expected to announce the venues in the coming days. The T20Is in Pakistan saw the home side in commanding form, with both the bowling unit and batting lineup showing cohesion. Bangladesh, known for their resilience on home soil, will look to bounce back strongly. The upcoming series also allows them to assess their depth and options in the T20 format as they prepare for a demanding schedule of their own. Following the Bangladesh series, Pakistan are set to tour the West Indies for a white-ball series comprising three T20Is and three ODIs starting from July 31. The back-to-back away assignments are being seen as a litmus test for the players, especially with major tournaments on the horizon.

Photo: AFP The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has drafted the initial schedule and shared it with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The T20I series will begin on July 20, with the second and third matches scheduled for July 22 and 24, respectively. All three matches are set to be hosted at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. Pakistan's tour of Bangladesh is not part of the Future Tours Program (FTP). This series was agreed upon during discussions between senior officials of the PCB and BCB on the sidelines of the ICC Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan. After the conclusion of the T20 series against Bangladesh, the Pakistan team will depart for the West Indies. There, they will face the Caribbean side in a three-match T20I series beginning on July 31 in the United States. This will be followed by a One Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies as well. Meanwhile, the third T20I between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be played on Sunday at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Shoriful Islam injured Bangladesh fast bowler Shoriful Islam has been ruled out of the third and final T20I against Pakistan, scheduled for Sunday at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, after suffering a groin injury. In his absence, pacer Khaled Ahmed is likely to be included in the playing XI for the third match. Additionally, Najmul Hossain Shanto may also be given a chance in the Bangladesh lineup. Pakistan holds an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series, having thoroughly outclassed the visitors in both earlier games. Meanwhile, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 37 runs in the first T20I here at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore on May 28. Chasing a target of 202, the Bangladeshi side was bowled out for 164 in 19.2 overs. The second T20I also saw a dominant Pakistani performance. Batting first, the hosts posted 201/6 in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Bangladesh was bundled out for 144 in 19 overs. Pakistan delivered a clinical performance to defeat Bangladesh by 57 runs in the second T20I, securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Meanwhile, Pakistan are expected to make one change to their playing XI for the third and final T20I against Bangladesh, scheduled for Sunday at the Gaddafi Stadium. Pacer Haris Rauf is likely to be rested due to his poor form, with either Abbas Afridi or Naseem Shah set to replace him in the lineup. Rauf has struggled in the ongoing series, claiming just one wicket while conceding 59 runs in five overs at an economy rate of 11.80. Despite Saim Ayub's disappointing form — scoring a duck in the first T20I and four runs in the second — the opening pair of Saim and Sahibzada Farhan is expected to be retained. In the second T20I, the hosts delivered a dominant performance, defeating Bangladesh by 57 runs. After electing to bat, Pakistan posted a commanding 201/6 in 20 overs. Despite an early setback with the dismissal of Saim Ayub, wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris (41 off 25) and Sahibzada Farhan (74 off 41) stitched together a blistering 103-run stand for the second wicket. Farhan's knock featured four boundaries and six towering sixes. Following their departure, captain Salman Ali Agha (19 off 12) and Hasan Nawaz added 45 runs for the fourth wicket, maintaining the tempo. Hasan finished unbeaten on 51 off 26 balls, striking two fours and three sixes. In response, Bangladesh got off to a flying start, reaching 38/0 in just three overs with Tanzid Hasan scoring a quickfire 33. However, a middle-order collapse, sparked by Haris Rauf and Faheem Ashraf, reduced them to 77/7 by the 10th over. Tanzim Hasan Sakib showed some resistance with a valiant 50 off 31 deliveries, including five sixes, but received little support from the other end. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 144 in 19 overs. Pakistan's bowling effort was well-rounded, with Abrar Ahmed leading the way with figures of 3/19 in four overs. Hasan Ali, Haris Rauf, Faheem Ashraf, Shadab Khan, Khushdil Shah and Saim Ayub each claimed a wicket to complete a dominant team performance.
