Renault has unveiled a new concept that it says 'demonstrates the potential' for a new 4 with all-wheel drive. We say, stop playing around and get it into production, Renault.
This is the Renault 4 Savane 4x4 Concept, and as you might have realised by now, the biggest change from the standard new 4 is that it gets an extra motor on its rear axle for permanent four-wheel drive. Renault doesn't say how powerful said motor is, so we're just going to imagine that it has deployed two of the 4's larger 148bhp units for a 296bhp total. Yeehaw.

Elsewhere it has given the 4 a helpful 15mm more ground clearance and fitted it with Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ tyres, while the track has been widened by 20mm on the front and rear axles. The wheels are still 18in items but they're specific to this Savane. And yes, you do remember that name from an adventure-spec original Renault 4.
Renault reckons this concept is for 'the modern-day gentleman explorer', so it has genuinely been designed to head off the beaten track. We're told that it's 'agile on muddy, snow-covered and unsurfaced routes' and that the bumpstops at the front and rear have been swapped out for new 3D-printed versions with shock-absorbing properties.
Unveiled at the Roland Garros French Open tennis tournament (very adventurous), the Savane 4x4 Concept also gets special Jade Green paint and a printed fabric roof. There's also a brilliantly brown interior with some additional houndstooth action on the seats. Mmm, retro.

Cartier, Victoria's Secret and North Face become the latest retailers to be hacked
Cartier, Victoria's Secret and North Face have become the latest retailers to be hacked. The revelations follow attacks on firms including Marks & Spencer, the Co-op, Harrods and Dior in recent weeks. Jewellery and watch maker Cartier told customers that 'an unauthorised party gained temporary access' to its system and 'obtained limited client information'. No passwords, credit card details or bank information were compromised in the attack. North Face emailed some customers saying it discovered a 'small-scale' attack in April this year. Lingerie maker Victoria's Secret said a security incident relating to its IT systems led it to shut its website for a few days last week.

Tories must reject climate change ‘luddites' on left and right, warns Cleverly
The Conservatives must reject climate change 'luddites' on both the right and the left, Sir James Cleverly will warn on Wednesday. In a speech to the Conservative Environment Network (CEN), the former home secretary is expected to urge his party to 'push further, faster and smarter' and 'set the pace' internationally on green technology. As first reported in the Daily Telegraph, he will argue that the UK is 'caught between two tribes of neo-luddites', criticising a 'negative right' that claims 'the way things are now is just fine' and a 'negative left' that is 'suspicious of technology'. He will say: 'The 'let's not move forward' tribe is in a bidding war with the 'let's move backwards' tribe. They're both wrong.' The intervention, Sir James's first major speech since last year's Tory leadership election, comes after Kemi Badenoch declared herself a 'net zero sceptic'. The Conservative leader kicked off her party's policy renewal process in March by saying it was 'impossible' to reach net zero by 2050, a target the Tories had been committed to since 2019. Meanwhile, Reform UK has pledged to scrap net zero entirely and its deputy leader, Richard Tice, has claimed there is 'no evidence' for man-made climate change, contrary to scientific consensus. In his CEN speech, Sir James is expected to urge a different course, saying the Conservatives 'must embrace a future where environmental polities encourage investment in new technologies, support the development of new industries, and create the jobs of tomorrow'. Drawing on Britain's 'proud history of innovation', he will say: 'We can lead once again, this time in the realm of green technology. 'While government plays a role, the private sector must be the engine driving this green revolution. 'The UK is advancing rapidly in renewable energy generation, clean transport, and carbon capture. But we must push further, faster and smarter.' The former foreign secretary will also call for the UK to play a leadership role on climate and export new technologies around the world. And he will warn that nations such as China could take the lead internationally if Britain steps back. Sir James will say: 'It's in our national interest to ensure no country – whether China or anyone else – monopolises the resources powering tomorrow's industries.'
