Leapmotor joins the Chinese ranks in Ireland in September

BreakingNews.ie27-05-2025

Were you sitting there, fingers crossed, hunched in anticipation of yet another Chinese car brand arriving in the Irish car market? Well, then we have some good news — Leapmotor is coming in September.
Leapmotor isn't entirely Chinese, however; it's actually the product of a joint venture between Leapmotor itself, and the vast car-making conglomerate that is Stellantis. That being the case, it's only natural that the Irish importer for Leapmotor is going to be Gown Auto, which already represents eight other Stellantis Group brands here, including Alfa Romeo, Citroën, DS, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, Opel, and Peugeot (and Honda, which is nothing to do with Stellantis at all).

Michael Dwan, Managing Director at Gowan Group said: 'Leapmotor aims to become Ireland's best value electric vehicle brand by offering high levels of specification and advanced technology as standard.'
Leapmotor is big in China, of course, and has been one of the fastest growing new brands there.
Its first models will arrive in Ireland in September of this year, and they couldn't be more different.
The first is the small and very cheap T03, which looks like a car trying to wear a Fiat Panda Halloween mask, has a 37kWh battery, and has a range of only 265km. It will be a rival to the likes of the Hyundai Inster and the Dacia Spring, but Leapmotor is promising high-end specifications for the dinky EV, including a panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, and a modern 10.1-inch infotainment system.

At the other end of the scale is the C10 SUV, which is meant to be a premium-level car and a rival to the likes of BMW and Audi.
Leapmotor C10 SUV
It boasts a 69.9kWh battery and a range of up to 500km, but possibly of more interest to Irish buyers will be a long-range plug-in hybrid which boasts a range of up to 145km on battery power, and then 900km on a combined battery and fuel tank.
It will be notably well-equipped, and will come as standard with electrically adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree surround view camera, heated steering wheel, a 12-speaker premium Hi-Fi system, a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, and a ten-inch digital instrument cluster.
Prices haven't been announced yet, but the T03 will have to start below €20,000 if it's to compete with Dacia and Hyundai.

The C10's quasi-premium ambitions make for a cloudier picture, but realistically it's going to have to be priced between €40,000 and €50,000 to compete with mainstream opposition, not to mention the more established Chinese brands such as BYD.
As is ever the case with these new brands, ambition is not in short supply.
Leapmotor says that by 2028 it will have expanded to an eight-car lineup, including a third model for 2025 — the B10 compact crossover.
The B10 and the T03 are already being built in Europe (the B10 in Slovakia, the T03 in Poland) which means they will be able to duck around the EU's Chinese EV tariffs. At the same time, the status of the C10 is less clear, although Stellantis is known to be seeking additional factory space in the EU for a third Chinese EV.

2025 GMC Hummer EV 2X: Is It Worth $99,045? My In-Depth Guide to Its Upsides & Downsides

The GMC Hummer EV 2X and 3X mainly differ with their drivetrain; but few would even notice. Is the GMC Hummer EV 2X the right one for you? What a beast Unless you're into hard launching your 9,000+ lbs Hummer on a track, or going up the face of a cliff, you'll be hard-pressed to find a noticeable difference in how the Hummer EV 2X and 3X feel. That's especially true for daily commuting. In 2024, GMC sold just under a combined 14,000 Hummer EVs. Many owners seem happy with their purchase, after the first year's models sorted out a few bugs. Are you interested in a Hummer? Here's why the 'less expensive' X2 might (or might not) be right for you. 2026 HUMMER EV Carbon Fiber Edition Pickup — Source: GMC Reason to love it #1: It looks like a giant toy – in a good way Few can deny the curbside appeal of the GMC Hummer EV, and the 2X and 3X look pretty much the same. From the massive tires, slab-sided exterior design, and new colors, the Hummer EV is stunning. There are six wheel options, and six available exterior color options as well. Their new $495 Solar Orange, in particular, looks epic. The interior is minimalist-cool, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. There are a lot of switches, buttons, and gizmos, which is great if you're the type to nerd out on gratuitous tech. Inside and out, regardless of the colors, wheel choice, and setup, it looks cool. Hummer EV SUV — Source: GMC Reason to love it #2: It actually tows more than the 3X Depending on the configuration, you can pull up to 12,000 lbs with the GMC Hummer 2X. The 3X, which is heavier, has a maximum towing limit of 8,500 lbs when properly equipped. Maximum payload capacity is 1,300 lbs. Mind you, since this is an EV, range is significantly impacted by weight and the drag of towing. 2025 GMC HUMMER EV 3X Pickup Reason to love it #3: The driving range and charging speed are both impressive The 2025 GMC Hummer EV 2X has a GM-estimated driving range of up to 318 miles on a full charge, but the EPA lowers that estimate to 303 miles. Regardless, for a machine that makes a total of 570 horsepower and 7,400 ft of torque from two motors, it's not too shabby. In terms of fast-charging, the Hummer EV 2X can support DC fast charging at up to 300 kW, adding 100 miles in about 10 minutes if all goes well. GMC Hummer EV battery pack Reason to love it #4: It's more affordable than the 3X, among others Okay, saying a $99,045 base MSRP vehicle is 'affordable' may sound like an oxymoron, but the 3X is over $8,000 more expensive. Remember that the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class EV starts at over $162,000, and the Hummer outperforms it in many ways. The Rivian R1S and even the BMW iX xDrive60 can easily surpass the Hummer's price as well. Reason to think twice #1: You might miss some of the goodies the 3X has The 3X has three electric motors, which means you get 830 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque out of it compared to the 2X's 570 horsepower and 7,400 ft of torque. Thanks to those two rear motors, the 3X also has torque vectoring, sending power to the rear wheel that needs it for performance and additional off-road capability. There's also no Super Cruise available for the 2X!? Come on, GM. For a vehicle that costs just an eyelash under $100K, that is insane. Reason to think twice #2: Its size and weight can be a serious issue Depending on the accessories, it's easy to tip the scales at (or even over) 9,000-lbs curb weight. That is massive. Type A1 school buses have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,000 pounds or less, and heavy-duty 3500 dually pickup trucks weigh about the same. The issue with that is that if you find yourself stuck off-road, how difficult do you think it will be to have someone pull you out? The 2X weighs about twice the weight of a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. 2025 GMC HUMMER EV 3X Pickup Final thoughts Honesty, very few will seriously off-road a 2025 GMC Hummer EV – period. It's an expensive toy that garners lots of attention curbside. It's kind of like a G-Wagon in Beverly Hills, which has the potential to seriously off-road, but never will. I estimate that people will play with features like 'crab-walk' and the WTF (Watts to Freedom) launch control only a handful of times, but it will be fun when they do. I think that encapsulates this big thing pretty well: it's just for fun. Did I mention it has 4 removable t-tops?

Nissan Drops Can't-Miss Leaf Lease Deal for June

The 2025 Nissan Leaf holds its own as an affordable EV, and it gets even better with a snazzy June lease deal. Electrified affordability in hatchback form The Nissan Leaf was one of the first of its kind, and while it hasn't quite kept up with its latest competitors in terms of tech, it does manage to undercut many of them in price. The 2025 Leaf is one of the few EVs available for under $30,000, making it one of the most affordable models around. With Nissan's latest June lease deal, you can get into a new Leaf for as little as $179 per month, depending on location. That specific lease deal spans a 36-month term and requires a $2,599 down payment. Nissan Leaf brings just enough juice The 2025 Nissan Leaf doesn't exactly stand out from the crowd. In fact, with its simplistic styling, one could argue it was purposefully designed to blend in. The Japanese EV carries over with no major changes for the 2025 model year, and Nissan has already confirmed that the current Leaf will be leaving soon. Notably, however, the automaker plans to revive the nameplate in the future, but there's no set timeline on that just yet. The Nissan Leaf is available in two trim levels, with battery size being the primary difference between the two. The base S trim comes with a 40 kWh battery capable of powering the all-electric hatchback for up to 149 miles. While that might give some commuters range anxiety, those only traveling a handful of miles – or through tight city streets – might find the Leaf fits their needs to a T. The SV Plus features a 60 kWh battery that boosts range to 212 miles. While you won't get the latest tech and premium comfort amenities, the budget-friendly Leaf does feature a few highlights worth noting. An eight-inch touchscreen display comes standard, complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Both trim levels feature four USB ports, along with a seven-inch LCD instrument cluster. In terms of space, the Nissan Leaf boasts up to 23.6 cu ft. of cargo space with the rear seats in their upright position. If you want an EV geared toward comfort, the SV Plus comes with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, among other niceties. You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. As far as performance goes, the Nissan Leaf is a compact EV that's ideal for urban travel. Front-wheel drive comes standard, and there's no all-wheel drive upgrade available. The Leaf's electric powertrain is capable of producing a respectable 147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque when paired with the 40 kWh battery. Upgrading to the 60 kWh battery increases performance to a sportier 214 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. Nissan Leaf deals for June 2025 Nissan has never been one to play favorites, and, for the most part, that remains true regarding Leaf lease deals. Most of the United States sees the same lease offer on a new Leaf S with a 40 kWh battery: $289 per month with $2,239 due at signing. That deal is valid for most major hubs, including Seattle, Detroit, Miami, and Los Angeles, as well as Honolulu and Anchorage. Residents of New York City can get that same Leaf model for $269 per month, with a $2,249 down payment. Denver residents seem to get the best lease deal, though, with a $179 monthly payment and $2,599 due at signing. All lease offers run through June 30th, are based on a 36-month term, and include a 10,000-mile allowance. Final thoughts No one is arguing that the Nissan Leaf is the best of the best, but if you want a brand-new EV at an affordable price, there's no beating it. With a starting price of $28,140, the 2025 Leaf undercuts most, if not all, other EVs on the market. Add in Nissan's rather enticing June lease deal, especially for those living in the Denver area, and a new Leaf just looks better and better. Don't forget that time is a factor here, so if you want to get into a new Leaf, act before the end of June! Stellantis extends Italy voluntary redundancy scheme

ROME, June 10 (Reuters) - Stellantis ( opens new tab has expanded its voluntary redundancy scheme for Italy, affecting almost 700 workers at two plants in the south of the country, and bringing to almost 2,500 the planned workforce reduction this year, the carmaker said late on Tuesday. "The company, with the aim of supporting early retirement or different career opportunities, has signed an agreement today with trade unions for 250 voluntary exits in the Cassino plant and another 427 voluntary exits in Atessa," a statement said. Since April, Stellantis has announced similar packages at other assembly plants in Italy, including Melfi and Pomigliano in the south and Mirafiori in northern Turin, the birthplace of its Fiat brand, affecting some 2,439 people in total. It also offered this year permanent jobs to around 200 people at the Atessa and Mirafiori plants, most of whom were previously on temporary contracts or with advisory positions. The company in May named Antonio Filosa as the new CEO as it seeks to recover from plunging sales and profit. It has fewer than 40,000 staff in Italy, down from 55,000 in early 2021. It was created from the merger of Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot maker PSA.
