Allegri returns to AC Milan as head coach
Massimiliano Allegri will return to AC Milan for a second stint as manager after the struggling Serie A club appointed him on Friday, a day after sacking Sergio Conceicao.
Allegri will replace the Portuguese coach who came in mid-season to help them win the Italian Super Cup but the club ultimately failed to qualify for any European competition after a disappointing eighth-placed finish.
Milan did not mention the length of Allegri's contract.
Their final game of the season, a 2-0 home win over Monza, was overshadowed by fan protests against the club ownership and hierarchy.
Seven-times winners of the Champions League, Milan have not won the competition since their last triumph in the 2006-07 season while their last Scudetto came in the 2021-22 campaign.
Allegri, who previously guided Milan to a Serie A title in the 2010-11 season, last managed Juventus.

Alcaraz was way too fast for me today, says Paul after French Open exit
PARIS :Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz played too fast and too aggressively for American Tommy Paul on Tuesday as the defending champion raced through their French Open quarter-final in straight sets and 94 minutes. Paul was mauled by the Spaniard in an eye-popping near-flawless 6-0 6-1 6-4 performance with Alcaraz firing 40 winners in the process. "Not particularly fun," Paul told reporters. "He played some great tennis, returned very well, had me on my backfoot all the time, playing so fast. "Even on the changeovers he was getting up so fast with 20 seconds left. I thought I have got to slow down. He played some amazing tennis. "He was on offence and that was not what I needed tonight. I did the best I could." The world number 12, who had spent close to 11 hours on court in his previous rounds, said he had tried to slow the match down in an effort to shake his opponent out of his rhythm. "Just waiting for the chair umpire to say 'time'," Paul said. "I felt like I was sitting down and there were 20 seconds left and Carlos was already up." The American put up somewhat of a fight in the third set but had trouble with a nagging abdominal muscle injury and was also feeling pain in his adductors. "I felt better today. I want to win the match but pretty early on it was pretty obvious I was not moving amazing," Paul said. "Everyone bought tickets for the night session so I thought I try my best. Obviously I did not want it to go like that." Paul said he was still planning to defend his title at Queen's in London later this month ahead of Wimbledon after a check on the injuries. "That's the plan. It's my ab(dominal) and the adductors. A couple of things. We are going to figure that out in the next couple of days," he said.

PARIS :Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz steamrolled past American 12th-seed Tommy Paul 6-0 6-1 6-4 at the French Open on Tuesday with a jaw-dropping display of attacking tennis in one of the most one-sided men's quarter-finals in Paris in recent memory. Four-time champion Iga Swiatek, who is looking to become the first woman in the professional era to win four consecutive titles in Paris, also punched her semi-final ticket with a straight sets win over Elina Svitolina of Ukraine to set up a mouth-watering semi-final with world number one Aryna Sabalenka. But it was four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz's merciless dismantling of Paul that grabbed the fans' attention, with the 22-year-old Spaniard terrorising the former French Open junior champion who looked like a fish out of water. Alcaraz charged through the first two sets in just 53 minutes and in near flawless fashion, hitting winners at will and chasing down every ball before the shell-shocked American had any time to react. Paul pulled himself together to hold serve and go 4-3 up in the third but as the sun gradually went down over Paris so did the curtain on his inspired run, with Alcaraz winning three games in a row to put him out of his misery in just 94 minutes. He will next take on in-form Italian Lorenzo Musetti who battled past American Frances Tiafoe in four sets after surviving a second-set wobble, to reach the French Open semi-finals for the first time. MUSETTI WARNING Musetti, the world number seven, who escaped with a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct when he kicked a ball at a line judge, eventually overran 15th seed Tiafoe. "Honestly it was really unlucky coincidence," said Musetti of the incident. "I was a little bit scared, because I really didn't want to harm nobody, of course. So I immediately went to the line umpire, and I of course said, 'sorry', I apologise to everyone." "It was right to have a warning, but I think the umpire saw that there was no intention about that, and that's why probably just, you know, let me continue my game."
