Deputies shoot 78-year-old suspect armed with shotgun near Mount Airy, Surry County Sheriff's Office says
SURRY COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Deputies shot a 78-year-old man who was allegedly approaching them with a shotgun, according to a Surry County Sheriff's Office news release.
At about 11:09 a.m. Friday, Surry County deputies responded to a report of what investigators described as an 'armed mental subject' on the 100 block of Alicia Lane in the White Plains community, near Mount Airy.
Deputies say a person was reportedly firing gunshots in a residential area.
At the scene, deputies found Gaston Ruben Golding, 78. Golding reportedly ran into a garage when deputies arrived. When deputies tried to speak with him, Golding allegedly came out with a shotgun and pointed it at deputies while moving towards them.
A deputy fired their weapon, hitting Golding.
Deputies rendered medical aid until emergency services arrived. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating per standard protocol.

Officers shoot chainsaw-wielding man in Twin Cities, police say
Police in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, say officers shot a man wielding a chainsaw overnight Thursday amid a domestic disturbance call. It happened on the 3200 block of 63rd Avenue North, according to police, after officers were called to the scene on a report of someone inside a residence "armed with knives." Police say crisis negotiators were called in to assist before officers told the suspect he was going to be arrested. Police say the man then walked out of the home with a chainsaw. "While trying to arrest and control the male, officers used pepper balls, 40 mm less lethal, and ultimately Brooklyn Center Police Officers discharged their firearms striking the male," police said in a statement released early Thursday morning. Police say the man was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition. The officers involved are now on critical incident leave as the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigates. Police also say "multiple area police agencies" assisted them at the scene. This story will be updated.

2 injured in overnight shooting at Wynwood high-rise, police say
Two people were shot overnight at a high-rise in Wynwood. According to Miami police, just before 12:30 a.m. they received a call about a shooting at 2150 N Miami Avenue. They said when officers arrived, they found two men who had been shot in their legs and a third man who had a head wound from being hit by a gun. All three were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center where they were listed as stable. A man who lives in the building said a security guard told him that the three people broke in and made their way to the eighth or tenth flood. That's where police said the two men were shot and the third man was hit over the head. The man who lives in the building said the trio made their way down to the lobby, but didn't realize they had to press a button to get out. He said they rummaged through some of the offices on the ground floor and then left through a side door. Police confirmed they had detained a person of interest. They have not said if the person is the one who fired the shots, or if there are any suspects who have not been apprehended.
