In a unique initiative to promote greenery and a love for the environment, a bhandara organised in the Bazarkhala area of the city distributed seed balls made of cow dung and soil, alongside the traditional offerings of poori-sabzi, during Bada Mangal on Tuesday.
Devotees were seen collecting seed balls that contained seeds of various tree species such as neem, banyan, and gular, near the Bazarkhala police station.
Alok Gupta, the organiser of the bhandara, said that he has distributed over 10,000 seed balls during the three Bada Mangal celebrations this year. 'We are distributing seed balls of Banyan, Neem, and Gular, among others,' he said.
Gupta explained that earlier he used to distribute saplings, but this method proved costlier and less convenient for devotees to carry. 'That's why I switched to seed balls. They are inexpensive, easy to carry, and anyone can use them to contribute to greener surroundings,' he said.
The seed balls are packed in small polybags so that they can be carried easily. He also added that the seed balls are prepared in his house with the help of his entire family.

On final Bada Mangal, LMC vows to cut plastic waste

Ahead of the final Bada Mangal this Tuesday, Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has launched an enforcement drive and issued strict directives to 'bhandara' or community feast organisers to avoid the use of plastic cutlery altogether. The official action follows an HT report on June 3 that reported the rampant use of single-use plastic items, despite a nationwide ban on them, at bhandara events held that day. Taking cognisance of the issue, municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar directed all eight zonal in-charges in the city to ensure compliance with the ban and take up awareness drives for the organisers. 'Plastic is choking our drains and damaging the environment. Officials have been directed to enforce the ban strictly at all bhandara events. Violators will be fined on the spot,' the civic chief said on Monday. Senior officials said over 300 bhandara events were expected to take place on Tuesday. As many as 189 organisers had already registered their events with LMC by 3:40 pm. 'With so many events taking place, we want to ensure that the final bhandara day of this year sets an example in eco-friendly practices,' an LMC official said, adding each bhandara site would be inspected and a report would be submitted to the civic chief by the evening. HT's earlier report had stated that the two private waste collection and management agencies had collected over 120 metric tons of surplus waste from 293 registered bhandara events held on June 3. 'We only had the confirmed data for June 3, but it's clear that this trend existed throughout the month,' a waste agency representative said. 'The use of plastic and improper disposal have placed enormous pressure on civic infrastructure and the environment.' In addition to the enforcement, LMC has launched a city-wide awareness campaign. 'We are appealing to both organisers and devotees to act responsibly. These events are acts of devotion; they must not harm the environment,' a senior LMC official said. Volunteers push for eco-friendly alternatives Several youngsters who have volunteered to keep the bhandara programmes clean said their efforts were bearing fruit as LMC had ordered strict action to discourage the use of single-use plastic. City-based NGO Mangalman Abhiyan offers internships to youngsters and encourages them to help bhandara organisers keep their premises clean. 'This is great news for our volunteers, who put their heart and soul into urging organisers to adopt eco-friendly measures,' said Ram Kumar Tiwari, the convener of Mangalman Abhiyan. Shubham Kumar Verma, a 22-year-old who pursues MSc in mathematics at Lucknow University, is one of such interns. 'On the last day, we will ensure no use of plastic at bhandara events.' Likewise, 22-year-old Rahul Saroj, an MSc physics student at IIT, Patna said, 'Our groups will go to the stalls and guide them regarding the alternatives to plastic.'

Since Lord Hanuman values discipline, it is advisable to start one's day early in the morning even though Bada Mangal doesn't have an auspicious or parana time. What is Bada Mangal? A celebration honoring Lord Hanuman, Bada Mangal is also commonly referred to as Budhwa Mangal. In the 19th century, Bada Mangal gained popularity thanks to the efforts of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the final Nawab of Awadh. According to mythology, Begam, the queen of the Nawab, prayed for a child in a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman in Lucknow numerous times and promised to hold a feast in his honor. The custom of honoring Bada Mangal began when her request was granted. Since then, the month of Jyeshtha has been used to celebrate the event. Therefore, the idea or belief is that every Tuesday during the Hindu month of Jyeshtha is a day when one must worship Lord Hanuman in order to receive countless blessings. Devotees do a variety of activities to strengthen their relationship with the Lord, such as going to Hanuman temples, reading the Hanuman Chalisa, doing the Sundarkand paath, and giving to charities. Is the last Bada Mangal powerful? The final Bada Mangal is regarded as strong. Since it is thought that Lord Hanuman is near Earth on this day, this is the day when one can profit from the beneficial flow of his energy. People think that Lord Hanuman returns to his meditative state after this day. Therefore, tomorrow is the ideal opportunity to commune with the Lord. In addition to visiting temples, reciting mantras, and keeping fast, devotees might make offerings to the Lord in order to maximize this day. Coconut, bananas, boondi, and motichoor laddoo are all good choices. Rituals of Bada Mangal 1.
