Yankees Announce Move After 18-2 Loss to Dodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The New York Yankees were blown out by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. In a rematch of the 2024 World Series that LA took in five games, New York looked completely overmatched.

While they still lead the American League East by 5.5 games with 35-22 record, the Yankees are looking for a morale boost in the series finale against Los Angeles on Sunday. New York has dropped the first two games of this series, with its pitching being no match for LA's high-powered offense.
Earlier Sunday, it was reported by Jack Curry of YES Network that New York had made a move.

According to Curry's report, the Yankees had promoted veteran starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco to join the club in Los Angeles. The corresponding roster move was not initially revealed, but that has since been officially announced by the team.

"Prior to today's game, the Yankees made the following roster moves," the team announced. "Selected RHP Carlos Carrasco (#59) to the active roster. Optioned RHP Yerry de los Santos to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre."
While the Carrasco news comes as no surprise after Curry's report, the corresponding move has now been revealed to be de los Santos heading back to Triple-A. In 10 games at the MLB level this season, de los Santos has a solid 3.00 ERA. This is despite his WHIP being high at 1.917 due to 17 hits and six walks being surrendered in just 12.0 innings of work.
As they look to salvage the series against LA, the Yankees will also have their sights set on an ALCS rematch against the Cleveland Guardians, Carrasco's former team, beginning on Tuesday.

Dodgers Named 'Perfect Landing Spot' for Freddy Peralta Amid Trade Rumors

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Los Angeles Dodgers have been poised for a return to the World Series this year but some sudden cracks in the roster could be changing the calculus. The Dodgers hold just a single-game lead in the National League West division as their pitching staff continues to succumb to persistent injuries. The team has more than a dozen arms on the injured list, including high-profile stars like Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Roki Sasaki. The Dodgers reinforced their rotation this past winter, but it hasn't helped them avoid the shortage. As a result, they could look to the midseason trade market for a blockbuster addition with Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta suddenly at the center of trade rumors. Outlining the likely candidates for a move this season, FanSided Major League Baseball insider Robert Murray tabbed Peralta as one of the four names he expects to drive speculation over the next eight weeks. After that, his colleague Zach Pressnell drew a connection to the Dodgers. (Photo by) More Fisher/Getty "Murray didn't link the righty to any team, but there's one franchise that checks all the boxes as the perfect landing spot for the talented ace: the Los Angeles Dodgers," Pressnell wrote. "The Dodgers are one of the only teams in the league that has continuously shown a willingness to go after massive trades like this." Peralta is enjoying a stellar season, with a 2.77 ERA and 66 strikeouts in his first 12 starts. And the Brewers have a history of selling high on their trade candidates, even with time left on their contracts, as shown by their recent moves to deal Josh Hader and Corbin Burnes. Pressnell noted the Dodgers are one of the few teams in the majors with a strong enough farm system to swing a deal for a bona fide ace like Peralta. So, if the Brewers are really willing to send him to a National League contender, the Dodgers could make sense as a landing spot. Yankees Brutally Dump Veteran Pitcher 24 Hours After Calling Him Up From Minors

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Carlos "Cookie" Carrasco started six games for the New York Yankees this season, providing much-needed help to an injury-battered pitching staff. But with a 5.91 ERA and 2-2 record, the Yankees designated Carrasco for assignment on May 6. The 38-year-old, 16-year veteran — who was signed to a minor league deal by the Yankees before spring training but pitched his way onto the big league roster — accepted his demotion to Triple-A, but on Sunday he got the call. He would be rejoining the Yankees for their final game of a three-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers. About 24 hours later, Carrasco was gone again. He did not get into the Sunday game against the Dodgers, and the Yankees then placed Carrasco on outright waivers, meaning he can now be claimed by any other team. NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 25: Carlos Carrasco #59 of the New York Yankees looks on during the game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium on April 25, 2025 in New York, New York. More New"It seems unlikely that Carrasco will be claimed. He just cleared less than a month ago and hasn't been in great form since," explained Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors. "However, it's also theoretically possible that there's a team which has been snakebit by injuries of late and is more willing to take a chance on Carrasco now than they were just a few weeks ago." Carrasco broke into the major leagues with the Cleveland Guardians (then still known as the Indians) in 2009. In 12 seasons with Cleveland, he won 91 games against 83 losses with a 3.91 ERA. Cleveland traded him to the New York Mets, for whom he pitched from 2021 to 2023 — earning a total of $38 million over those three seasons. More MLB: Trade Idea Lets Yankees Get Rid of Carlos Carrasco For MLB-Ready Righty Prospect After he spent last season back in Cleveland, the Yankees offered the Barquisimeto, Venezuela, native a $1.3 million minor league deal for this year, which he accepted. Now, it appears that his brief, up-and-down Yankees career is over. "Not unexpectedly, Carlos Carrasco was with the Yankees for just one day as pitching depth protection and was placed on outright waivers," reported New York Post columnist Joel Sherman. "With no unexpected setbacks, the (Yankees) were lined up to activate Fernando Cruz from the IL on Tuesday." If Carrasco goes unclaimed on the waiver wire, he can elect to declare free agency, or accept another minor league assignment if the Yankees choose to offer him one. Baldwin Park officer remembered for kind gesture to Freeman family

Chelsea Freeman, wife of Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman, shared a personal story about a kind gesture made last year by Baldwin Park Police Officer Samuel Riveros, who was recently slain by a gunman while on duty. 'We met during the Dodgers/Mets playoffs. He came up to me, asked how my son Max was doing and handed me his police patch to give to him,' Chelsea posted on her Instagram Stories account Monday evening. 'A small gesture that meant so much.' Max Freeman was hospitalized at Children's Hospital Orange County last summer for treatment of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder. Riveros' kindness toward children was well-documented with videos showing the smiling officer reading to elementary school students. He was also a devoted Dodgers fan and snowboarder. On Saturday night, the nine-year veteran of the Baldwin Park Police Department was shot while responding to a call of a man firing a rifle in the street. Riveros was airlifted to USC Memorial Hospital but died from his wounds there. 'Our hearts are heavy hearing of his passing this week. Officer Samuel Riveros of the Baldwin Police Department served with honor and heart. He was an avid Dodgers fan from Pasadena,' Chelsea's post reads. 'Rest in Peace, Officer Riveros. Your kindness will never be forgotten,' states the post, which ends with a broken heart emoji and Officer Riveros' End of Watch portrait. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
