Millie Bright rules herself out of Lionesses squad for Euro 2025 in fresh blow for Sarina Wiegman
Millie Bright has withdrawn from England selection ahead of Euro 2025, in another major blow for the Lionesses going into their defence of their European crown.
The Chelsea defender has made herself unavailable this summer because she is 'not able to give 100 per cent mentally and physically'.

Her withdrawal comes after goalkeeper Mary Earps last week retired from international duty.
Bright's place in the squad, which is due to be announced on Thursday, was in doubt after she pulled out of this month's Nations League games against Portugal and Spain.

The 31-year-old, who captained the Lionesses to the World Cup final two years ago, missed those games to 'undertake an extended period of recovery' after a long season with Chelsea.
But Bright announced on Wednesday morning that she would play no part at the Euros this summer.
Midfielder Fran Kirby, who like Bright and Earps played every game at Euro 2022 as the Lionesses were crowned champions, has also retired from international duty after being told she would not make the squad this summer.

All three players were senior figures in the England set up, with Bright stepping up to be captain at the World Cup two years ago in the absence of the injured Leah Williamson.
Bright has played a key role for Chelsea this season and helped them win the domestic treble without losing a single game.
'This is one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, but after careful thought and discussions with my team, I have decided to withdraw from selection for the England squad ahead of Euro 2025,' said Bright in a statement on Instagram.
'Football has given me so much, and representing my country has always been my greatest honour.

'My pride and ego tells me to go but I think the team and the fans deserve more. Right now I'm not able to give 100 per cent mentally or physically.
'As much as I want to be out there running through brick walls for England and fighting alongside my team-mates, stepping back is the right thing for my health, my future in the game and most importantly the team.
'It wouldn't be fair for me to take the place and opportunity away from another player who is ready and able to give everything for the badge and country.
'I'll be supporting the team with everything I've got, and hoping this incredible group of players will do the nation proud.
'Thank you to my team-mates, coaches, and, most importantly, the fans for your unwavering support, it means the world to me.'

Poles march for LGBTQ+ equality after presidential vote raises fears
By Thomas Holdstock GDANSK, Poland (Reuters) -Thousands of Poles took part in a Pride march in the northern port city of Gdansk on Saturday, showing their support for the LGBTQ+ community amid fears for its future after nationalist candidate Karol Nawrocki won a presidential election. Participants waved rainbow flags and the blue, pink, and white banners representing the transgender community. Many carried placards bearing messages such as "Love is love" and "12 years together - when civil partnership?". A parallel Pride event was also held in the western city of Wroclaw. Nawrocki, supported by the conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party, has raised alarm among LGBTQ+ advocates. During its time in power from 2015 to 2023, PiS made opposition to what it termed "LGBTQ+ ideology" a central part of its platform, framing it as a threat to traditional values in the predominantly Catholic country. "I was devastated to be honest," 23-year-old student Agata said when asked about Nawrocki's victory. "I am scared. I don't know what our future looks like." Although LGBTQ+ issues were less prominent in Nawrocki's campaign than in that of his PiS-backed predecessor Andrzej Duda in 2020, his platform included commitments to resist "ideology in schools" and to oppose adoption by same-sex couples. He has stated that marriage should remain between a man and a woman and, while rejecting civil partnerships, expressed a willingness to discuss legal recognition for a "close person", regardless of sexual orientation. In contrast, a pro-European coalition that came to power in 2023 introduced a draft bill to legalise civil partnerships. However, with the presidency holding veto power, the bill's future remains uncertain. Agata said that she hoped a law on civil partnerships could come into effect, but that it was unlikely during Nawrocki's presidency. "I want more equality in our society, in our country," she said.

France's president will visit Greenland in a show of EU unity, Danish leader says
COPENHAGEN, Denmark — French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Greenland next weekend, the Danish prime minister's office said Saturday — a visit by a high-profile European Union leader in the wake of U.S. expressions of interest in taking over the mineral-rich Arctic island. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and the French leader said they will meet in the semiautonomous Danish territory on June 15, hosted by Greenland's new prime minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen. The visit by Macron, whose nuclear-armed country has one of the EU's strongest militaries, comes as President Trump hasn't ruled out using force to carry out his desire for the resource-rich and strategically located island to become part of the United States. While the issue of U.S. interest in Greenland has drifted from the headlines in recent weeks, Nielsen said in late April that such comments by U.S. leaders have been disrespectful and that Greenland will never be 'a piece of property' that anyone can buy. In the statement Saturday, Frederiksen acknowledged the 'difficult foreign policy situation in recent months' but praised 'great international support' for Greenland and Denmark. 'President Macron's upcoming visit to Greenland is yet another concrete testament to European unity,' she said, alluding to the membership of France and Denmark in the 27-member-country EU. The three leaders were expected to discuss security in the North Atlantic and the Arctic, as well as issues of economic development, climate change and energy during the visit, her office said.
