Spain win 11-goal thriller over Germany to reach U19 Euro final
Spain edged Germany 6–5 after extra-time on Monday, reaching the European Under-19 Championship final after a dramatic clash in Bucharest in which eight goals were scored after the 78th minute.
Real Betis winger Pablo Garcia was Spain's hero in a semi-final that turned from a 2–1 Germany lead with 12 minutes of regulation time left into an 11-goal extravaganza.
Garcia's fourth goal of the night – which came seconds before the final whistle – finally settled a contest after three stoppage time goals had taken the game to extra time.
The Germans will be left wondering how they are leaving the tournament despite Hoffenheim striker Max Moerstedt's impressive hat-trick.
Spain, the defending champions, will face the Netherlands in Thursday's final after they defeated hosts Romania 3-1 on Monday. REUTERS

PHOTO: REUTERS Duplantis says vaulting 6.40m is within the 'realm of possibility' OSTRAVA, Czech Republic - Swedish pole-vaulting star Armand Duplantis said on June 23 that clearing 6.40 metres was 'in the realm of possibility', eight days after improving his previous world record to 6.28m. The 25-year-old US-born double Olympic champion set his 12th world record at the Stockholm Diamond League meet on June 15. 'I've always believed that I'm able to keep pushing higher and of course I've shown now that I'm very, very close to 6.30 metres,' Duplantis told reporters ahead of June 24's Golden Spike meet in the Czech city of Ostrava. 'I want to keep pushing and I want to get to 6.30m as soon as possible. 'I'd like to get to 6.40m, that would be another crazy barrier of course and that also feels like in the realm of possibility for me.' Duplantis said he had been surprised that his latest world record had come in Stockholm because the set-up had not been ideal. 'I didn't feel like my best, it was probably the worst that I felt for a world record jump, honestly, before,' said Duplantis. 'I felt like I was a little bit all over the place on the day and a little bit inconsistent. But then I hit the right jump at the right time, which I guess is the most important in pole vaulting.' Setting a world record in Sweden presented Duplantis with a welcome occasion to celebrate with friends and family. 'I did celebrate it pretty hard, but I feel like I'm fully recovered now and ready to start jumping again,' he said. Duplantis also announced he is planning to release his second song this week, following on from his debut single Bop in February. 'I'm going to drop a song Friday, midnight actually, so that's pretty cool,' he said. The new song is called 4L, meaning 'For Life'. 'I dropped one song only this far but I've done tons of music the past couple of years really so that'll be fun. 'I feel like I'd like to have another hobby, I guess, maybe not distract me but just give me something else mentally.' The Thunder beat the Pacers 103-91 to clinch the title in a physical affair that unravelled for Indiana in the second half after point guard Tyrese Haliburton left with an Achilles injury early in the game. The viewership was welcome news for the NBA after the clash of two small-market teams yielded disappointing ratings early in the best-of-seven series. The Game 1 opener averaged 8.91 million viewers on ABC, according to Sports Media Watch, the lowest viewership for the Finals opener in the Nielsen era, outside of the two COVID-affected seasons. The series that was short on starpower ended with the Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander capping one of the best individual seasons in NBA history. The 26-year-old became only the fourth player - and the first since Shaquille O'Neal in 2000 - to earn the scoring title as well as league and Finals MVP honours in the same season.
