Ranked: Three most lethal Springbok attacking players
The Springboks have always been renowned for their physicality and forward dominance, but over the years the four-time world champs have also boasted some of the most thrilling attacking players.
In this ongoing series, we attempt to rank the most lethal attackers of all time.
1 Danie Gerber
Arguably the greatest Springbok of all time, Gerber was a once-in-a-generation player who had the most incredible natural attacking ability.
He was renowned for his pace, strength, powerful sidestep and ability to read the game, as evidenced by his 19 tries in just 24 Tests. In fact, this leaves him with a 79.2% try ratio, placing him at the summit of the Springbok list for players who have featured in 10 or more Tests.
Gerber was an iconic player, and his attacking prowess is simply the stuff of legend.
2 Bryan Habana
Over an illustrious career that encompassed 124 Tests, Habana established himself as one of the most iconic wingers of all time, having announced himself on the world stage with a try-on debut against England in 2004.
At the 2007 World Cup, he equalled the record for most tries scored in a single World Cup (8), set by the late great Jonah Lomu in 1999, and ultimately he remains the Springboks' leading try-scorer (67).
It wasn't just his try-scoring heroics that made Habana such a lethal threat, though, it was his searing pace, ability to read attacking opportunities as well as his physical power.
3 Cheslin Kolbe
The diminutive winger has redefined what 'smaller' players can achieve on the Test stage, with his iconic tries in the 2019 World Cup final and 2021 British & Irish Lions series sure to forever hold down a special place in Springbok history.
Kolbe could sidestep someone in a phone booth, with his speed and elusive running having made him one of the most influential X factor stars in world rugby.
A truly special player with individual highlights reels for the ages, there is no doubt that Kolbe deserves his place on the podium of attacking greats.

HE'S GOOD: LEWIS Hamilton optimistic about Ferrari as he returns to Canada. | Reuters Image: Reuters Ferrari woes aside, Lewis Hamilton believes that team Principal Fred Vasseur is the man to lead them through the dark tunnel of imbalance they find themselves in. Hamilton was speaking to the press in Montreal, Canada ahead of the 10th race of the season. It's also one of the most sentimental races on the calendar for the 40-year-old British driver, because it's where he won his first race as a rookie 18 years ago for McLaren. Next Stay Close ✕ In all that time, Hamilton still remained one of the top contenders for the World Title and still does to this day. Hamilton's debut win was crowned with record breaking feats, as he was the first black person to win a F1 race. It was only six races deep into his maiden season but the rookie still stayed ahead of his season teammate Fernando Alonso and won the race. The 2007 Canadian Grand Prix affirmed in the minds of people what was only speculated at the time: Lewis Hamilton is the next big thing in F1. Since then, Hamilton's won 7 races in Canada, equaling Michael Schumacher's record for the most wins. There's no denying the 2025 Canadian GP will be even more special than his first race, given the fact that he's fighting for an eighth World Title this season and its with the most decorated F1 team. Although he hasn't been able to put up much of a fight due to a slow and unbalanced car, Hamilton has still fought for every one of the 71 points he's earned this season. He voiced his commitment towards Vasseur's leadership even amidst the troubles team Ferrari have experienced in public view.

What will it take for Kagiso Rabada to remove the stain of his recent drug ban?
South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is at a crossroads in his career. Earlier this year, the 30-year-old confirmed he tested positive for a recreational drug during the SA20 tournament and is serving a provisional suspension. The revelation led to his surprise withdrawal from the IPL 2025 in early April. Despite the off-field setback, Rabada's on-field record remains formidable. With 332 wickets in 71 Tests, he has overtaken the legendary Allan Donald and sits fourth on South Africa's all-time Test wicket-takers list.

Erasmus building depth and experience while keeping an eye on 2027 World Cup
As he plans for the season, Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus says he will continue building squad depth and experience with an eye on the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. The season starts at the end of the month with the Qatar Airways Cup clash against the Barbarians to be followed by the Incoming Series which will feature back-to-back Tests against Italy and Georgia in July. Erasmus focused on depth in 2024 where he used 50 players in their 13 Test matches, while capping 12 new players, to ensure the longevity of experienced players. Erasmus named nine uncapped players in his 55-man squad for the clash against the Barbarians — Cobus Wiese, Juarno Augustus, Marnus van der Merwe, Neethling Fouche, Asenathi Ntlabakanye, Renzo du Plessis, Vincent Tshituka, Ethan Hooker and Ntokozo Makhaza. 'We would like to do something similar to last year, where the senior players and some of the younger players contribute on the field,' he said.
