Jaishankar, Paraguay Foreign Minister sign MoU to establish Joint Commission Mechanism
New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): India and Paraguay on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Joint Commission Mechanism (JCM). The agreement was signed by External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, and Paraguay Foreign Minister Ruben Ramirez L, in New Delhi. 'Concluded an MoU with FM @rramirezlezcano for establishment of Joint Commission Mechanism (JCM) between India and Paraguay. A significant step in widening our dialogue and cooperation,' Jaishankar said in a post on X. Earlier in the day, PM Modi held talks with Paraguayan President Santiago Pena at Hyderabad House. The two leaders discussed enhancing cooperation in a range of sectors including agriculture, Pharma, technology, renewable energy and health. 'Had a productive meeting with the President of Paraguay, Santiago Pena in Delhi. Paraguay is a valued partner in South America and our nations are connected by shared values,' PM Modi said in a post on X. 'Our talks covered diverse subjects, prime among which was close economic cooperation. There is immense potential in boosting trade linkages. We see sectors such as digital technology, critical minerals, energy, agriculture, health and space as key areas where our nations can work together,' he added. President Pena strongly condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and expressed solidarity with the India. The leaders also exchanged views on global and regional issues of mutual interest. 'PM @narendramodi held wide-ranging talks with President @SantiPenap of Paraguay at Hyderabad House. They discussed enhancing cooperation in the fields on agriculture, Pharma, technology, renewable energy, health, critical minerals, railways & people to people contacts,' Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, said in a post on X. 'President @SantiPenap strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam & expressed solidarity with the Indian people. Both sides also exchanged views on global & regional issues of mutual interest,' he added. Paraguay's President is on a three-day visit to India. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Ministers, senior officials and business representatives. President Pena will also visit Mumbai. In Mumbai, President Pena will meet the state political leadership, business and industry representatives, startups, innovators and tech leaders. The State Visit of President Pena is the second visit to India by a President of Paraguay India and Paraguay established diplomatic relations on September 13, 1961, cultivating warm and friendly ties between the two nations. Both countries have since developed cooperation in various sectors, including trade, agriculture, health, pharmaceuticals and information technology. (ANI)

Indian all-party delegation discusses counter-terrorism cooperation with Egypt's Foreign Affairs Council
Cairo [Egypt], June 3 (ANI): A Group 7 delegation of Indian parliamentarians, led by Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Supriya Sule, met with Egypt's Foreign Affairs Council in Cairo, engaging in comprehensive discussions on counter-terrorism and global security collaboration. The delegation arrived at Cairo International Airport on Monday as part of a multi-nation diplomatic visit and was received by the Ambassador of India to Egypt, Suresh K Reddy. Former Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Egyptian Foreign Affairs Council, Mohamed Orabi, lauded India's measured and constructive approach to recent global crises, particularly those linked to terrorism. 'Egypt has always appreciated Indian policy, and I think your prudent approach to the last crisis was very appreciated. We suffered a lot from terrorism in many shapes and means. Any attempts or any policy to curb terrorist attacks anywhere will be supported by Egypt,' said Orabi. The Indian side highlighted concerns around cross-border terrorism, especially emanating from Pakistan. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur, a member of the delegation, referred to Pakistan's long-standing involvement in major global terror incidents. 'We had successful meetings here. Cross-border terrorism by Pakistan has become a matter of worry for our country and the entire world. From 9/11 to 26/11, Pakistan has been involved in all such terrorist acts. The way the African Union has defined terrorism, when the countries in the world come together as a global coalition against terrorism, then only we can have a cure for this,' Thakur stated. The all-party delegation led by Supriya Sule also includes Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna devarayalu, Anand Sharma, former Minister of Commerce & Industry, V Muraleedharan, Former Minister of State for External Affairs, and Syed Akbaruddin, Former Permanent Representative of India to the UN. The delegation aims to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism while engaging with leaders in key countries. London [UK], June 3 (ANI): UK MP for Leicester East, Shivani Raja, met India's all-party parliamentary delegation, led by Ravi Shankar Prasad, and called it a 'positive meeting.' She expressed willingness to work with India and support it in their endeavours to combat terrorism. In an interview with ANI, Shivani Raja praised India for responding to the terrorist attacks. She called on the UK and other nations to stand up and condemn terrorism. On her meeting with all-party delegation, she said, 'We just finished hosting a roundtable along with the Conservative Friends of India at our party Headquarters with the senior delegation from India. It was a really positive meeting, there was a lot of takeaways from that meeting. But overall, it was really positive and we look forward to working with India and supporting them in their endeavours to combat terrorism.' She said that the UK has always condemned terrorism, and the UK's Shadow Foreign Secretary, Priti Patel, condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. 'The UK has always condemned terrorist attacks, whether it be in Pahalgam or any other country in the world. This was no different. Our Shadow Foreign Secretary, Priti Patel, wasted no time in calling out the terrorist attack which happened in 22nd April and I think as citizens of this world, whether you are in politics or not in politics, we all have a duty and responsibility to call out terrorism whenever we see it,' Shivani Raja said. Praising India's efforts in its fight against terrorism, Shivani Raja said, 'I think India is doing a fantastic job at responding to the terrorist attacks which come to India. But I think the UK, as a whole, and other countries likewise need to stand up and condemn terrorism. That is exactly what the UK has been doing and will continue to do.' On what efforts the UK should make in the fight against terrorism, she said, 'We should be condemning terrorist attacks and calling out terrorism wherever we see it, regardless of the country. That's what I have been doing, that's what my party has been doing, and that is what the Government here has been doing.' She expressed happiness over the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the UK. She expressed excitement about seeing the bilateral relationship grow under the FTA. Regarding the India-UK relationship, Shivani Raja says, 'I was personally very thrilled, and I am super pleased to welcome the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). We have such a rich and vibrant British-Indian diaspora here in the UK. So, to see that relationship continue to blossom and grow under the FTA will be really special and I am really excited for it.' The all-party delegation met with the Conservative Party's co-chair, Lord Dominic Johnson of Lainston CBE, and the Conservative Friends of India's co-chair, Koolesh Shah, on Monday at the Conservative Campaign Headquarters (CCHQ) in the UK on Monday. During the meeting, the delegation emphasised Operation Sindoor as the new normal for India in its firm response to terrorism. UK MPs - Shivani Raja, Ameet Jogia and Reena Ranger attended the meeting. In a post on X, Indian High Commission in the UK stated, 'The All-Party Delegation met the Co-Chair of the Conservative Party Lord Dominic Johnson of Lainston CBE @LordJohnson_ and Co-Chair of the Conservative Friends of India (@wearecfindia) Koolesh Shah at @Conservatives Campaign Headquarters (CCHQ) to underscore that the scourge of terrorism remains a threat to all nations. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
