TPDPMA calls off 40-day strike after assurance from govt
Hyderabad: The Telangana Private Degree and PG College Management Association (TPDPMA) has officially ended its 40-day strike. This decision follows an assurance from Professor V Balakista Reddy, Chairman of the Telangana Council of Higher Education, who successfully communicated the urgent financial challenges facing Degree and PG Colleges in the State to the Chief Minister.
After a meeting with the TPDPMA representatives on Monday and hearing from Professor Reddy about the delayed release of the RTF (Recurring Teaching Funds), the Chief Minister directed the relevant officials to take immediate action, ensuring that the funds will be released within the next three days. Convinced by the Chairman's assurance, the TPDPMA announced its cooperation with all universities for the upcoming semester examinations, scheduled to begin on May 14.
The association expressed gratitude to the government for acknowledging the financial difficulties private colleges have faced due to the delay in fund releases and for their positive response to address the issue promptly. Professor Balakista Reddy emphasised that the Chief Minister was receptive to his explanation and appealed to college managements, property owners, and teaching staff of private Degree and PG colleges to work together in resuming normal academic operations. He also stated that he would take personal responsibility for ensuring the promised funds are released.

Telangana Cabinet expanded with inclusion of Vivek Venkataswamy, Vakiti Srihari and Adluri Lakshman Kumar
The Telangana State Cabinet has seen the first expansion 18 months after the Congress Government took over the reins in December 2023. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma administered oath of office and secrecy to three new Ministers – G. Vivek Venkataswamy, Adluri Lakshman Kumar and Vakiti Srihari at a simple ceremony on Sunday (June 8, 2025). Mr. Vivek took oath in English and Mr. Lakshman Kumar and Mr. Srihari in Telugu in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Ministers, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, DGP Jitender, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and senior Congress leaders. The strength of the Cabinet reached 13 with the addition of three more members and there is still space for accommodating few more. The portfolios of the new Ministers are yet to be announced amid talk that there can be a reshuffle in the portfolios of the existing Ministers. Expansion of the Council of Minister has been long overdue and several names cropped up once the Chief Minister intensified his requests to the Congress leadership to permit inclusion of new members. The Chief Minister and the Congress leadership took adequate care in striking social balance in the addition of new members with the inclusion of Mr. Srihari hailing from backward classes, Mr. Vivek from Mala community and Mr. Lakshman Kumar from Madiga community of the scheduled castes. Senior leaders like Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy had openly lobbied with the party leadership for ministerial berths whenever the Cabinet was expanded while senior leader and former Minister Sudharshan Reddy was keen that his name be included in the list given his seniority in the party as also in the assembly. AICC Telangana affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan held several rounds of discussions with sections of party leaders ahead of the expansion seeking their views. Though several names cropped up once the talk of expansion gained momentum, the Chief Minister reportedly preferred maintaining social balance on the council of Ministers in spite of the challenge he faced in managing the representation of the strong Reddy community.

Top priority of govt. to address public grievances, says Minister
Minister for Transport, Youth Services and Sports Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy on Saturday held a Praja Darbar at Boreddigari Palle in Chinnamandem mandal, Annamayya district. Addressing the villagers, Mr. Reddy said that resolving people's problems on a priority basis is the highlight of the TDP-led government. He alleged that residents of the Rayachoti Assembly constituency were hit by several hardships due to long pending issues during the previous YSRCP government, but they are happy now as the coalition government is addressing their issues. Mr. Reddy said that many complaints from the Annamayya district were regarding irregularities and land grabbing during the previous government. Such complaints are immediately being forwarded to the concerned officials for action, the Minister said. He said that he would be available to the public and have direct interaction with them to understand their concerns and directed the officials to resolve several appeals on the spot.

HC quashes discharge order of jail warder
1 2 3 Cuttack: Orissa high court quashed the discharge order of a jail warder who was removed from service on allegations of suppressing criminal case details in his attestation form, which was submitted at the time of applying for the post. The vacation bench of Justice Aditya Kumar Mohapatra ruled that the discharge order of P Rajesh Reddy, issued by the senior superintendent of circle jail, Berhampur, on Feb 2, 2024, "is unsustainable in law". Reddy was appointed to the post of jail warder in Daspalla sub-jail on May 29, 2023. The authorities alleged that Reddy failed to disclose his involvement in two criminal cases registered at Chamakhandi police station. While seeking the HC's intervention, Reddy pleaded that he had no knowledge of the cases and was never implicated, detained, or arrested in connection with them. He claimed to be a victim of mistaken identity and stated that his name was wrongfully linked to the cases involving a protest over land acquisition. Upon examining the facts and legal position, Justice Mohapatra, in his May 26 order, ruled that the discharge order violated Article 311(2) of the Constitution and was void from the beginning. The judge further observed that the petitioner (Reddy) did not suppress any material facts within his knowledge, and subsequent investigation showed he was not involved in either case. Setting aside both the discharge order and the subsequent rejection of the petitioner's representation dated July 18, 2024, Justice Mohapatra directed the senior superintendent of circle jail (Berhampur) to reinstate the petitioner with all consequential service and financial benefits. "Further, it is directed that the period of discharge be treated as 'on duty' and the financial benefits accruing in favour of the petitioner for the said period be also calculated and disbursed in favour of the petitioner," Justice Mohapatra specified, adding, "Let the entire exercise be carried out within a period of two months.
