Game 2 of the Women's College World Series is set for Thursday night as the Texas Tech Red Raiders look to even the score and force a clincher against the Texas Longhorns. Unfortunately, the action's delayed, as bad weather in the area has forced back first pitch from 8 p.m. ET until at least 8:45.
The all-Texas matchup got off to a hot start on Tuesday with Texas Tech establishing an early lead in Game 1 before the Longhorns' resilience proved to be the key in a 2-1 victory.

Texas' Teagan Kavan and Texas Tech's NiJaree Canady put on a pitching showcase for their respective teams. Kavan allowed only one unearned run and three hits, and she tallied her 24th consecutive inning without allowing an earned run.
Canady struck out seven hitters in six innings but ultimately could not hold the lead for her team, despite being one of the best pitchers in college softball this season. The game ultimately came down to the bottom of the sixth inning, when Texas Tech attempted to intentionally walk Reese Atwood, and Canady gave her a hittable pitch. Atwood drove in two runs with a single to ultimately seal the win for the Longhorns.
"It's a close game, you gotta take risks," Atwood said. "The first pitch, I thought I could have hit. And the next one, she kind of slowed down on it so I took my chance and I got it."

Women's Pro Motocross (WMX) Round 3 moved to Saturday in Thunder Valley, broadcast on Peacock

LAKEWOOD, Colorado: Heavy rain on Thursday and persistent moisture throughout Friday forced the movement of Round 3 of the Women's Pro Motocross (WMX) series to Saturday. The round will be shortened to one moto, which will follow the men's program. The silver lining to the rain showers is that Peacock decided to broadcast the moto live, immediately following the 250 Class Moto 2, which was to be the final race of the afternoon. To accommodate live network coverage on NBC, the order of the men's program was reorganized to allow the 450 division to ride first. The WMX program will include one practice session of 10 minutes following the consultation races at approximately 1:55 p.m. ET. Staging for the single moto will occur at 6:30 p.m. ET with the gate drop scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. The moto will be 15 minutes, plus one lap. 'Without having the rain delay and cancelation [of Friday's sessions], I don't know that [the debut on Peacock] would have happened this year,' WMX coordinator Christina Denny told NBC Sports. 'I'm so happy that MX Sports, Bondo [lead producer Chris Bond], Peacock, and NBC Sports are going to give us this opportunity.' Thunder Valley Motocross Park reconfigured some of the turns for the 2025 Nationals, leaving those sections of the track particularly vulnerable to developing heavy ruts, so the decision to cancel all on-track activity was made to preserve the course. After sweeping Round 2 at Hangtown Motocross Park last week, Lachlan Turner holds a six-point lead over Round 1 winner Mikayla Nielsen. 'It's pretty cool to be on TV,' Turner said. 'I can watch it later.' Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady signs a second $1 million-plus NIL deal, AP source says

Associated Press OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady has signed another $1 million-plus NIL deal, a person with knowledge of the agreement told The Associated Press on Friday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the situation publicly. ESPN first reported the deal. The name, image and likeness deal came hours before Canady was set to pitch for the Red Raiders in the decisive Game 3 of the Women's College World Series championship series against Texas. Canady signed a similar deal with Texas Tech last year after she had led Stanford to the World Series semifinals two straight years. It has paid off — she leads the nation in wins (34) and ERA (0.97) and has thrown every pitch for the Red Raiders in the World Series. ___ AP sports: recommended in this topic

Dodgers' Dave Roberts Makes Bold All-Star Claim About Andy Pages

Dodgers' Dave Roberts Makes Bold All-Star Claim About Andy Pages originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers are in sole possession of first place in the National League West. Powered by the league's number one offense, they boast multiple MVPs and arguably the most dangerous hitter in baseball – Shohei Ohtani. Advertisement Yet, as the pitching staff struggles with four starters having an ERA above 4.00, unsung heroes are stepping up and making a case for more of the spotlight. Look no further than outfielder Andy Pages. The former top prospect has taken on a prominent role in his sophomore campaign and is shining in the process. Already surpassing his rookie season baseball-reference WAR, Pages is well on his way to totaling more home runs and RBIs by season's end. Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages (44) runs the bases after hitting a home run against the Athletics during the second inning at Dodger Parkhurst-Imagn Images His production has made him a mainstay in an already stacked lineup. Following Thursday's win that capped off a four-game series split against the New York Mets, where Pages finished 7-for-17 with one home run, two RBIs, and scored the game-winning run, manager Dave Roberts praised the 24-year-old. Advertisement "Yeah, he is actually [playing like an All-Star]. 7-for-17, and there were a few lineouts in there," said Roberts. "He's just really swinging the bat well. Confidence is a big thing, and he is playing like an All-Star." Often overshadowed by Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong and Nationals' James Woods, Pages belongs in the same conversation as one of MLB's rising stars. Over his last 10 games, Pages is batting .390 with three home runs, 10 RBIs, and a 1.114 OPS. He has even climbed to ninth among outfielders with a season-long .833 OPS. That is higher than Oneil Cruz, Fernando Tatis, and Juan Soto. While an All-Star game may not be in his immediate future, it is time to recognize the arrival of Pages as a legitimate offensive threat.
