Haryana: 7 family members from Dehradun found dead in parked car in Panchkula
Panchkula (Haryana) [India], May 27 (ANI): In a heart-wrenching incident, seven members of a family from Dehradun were found dead in a car in Sector 27 of Haryana's Panchkula district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Praveen Mittal (42), his parents, wife, two daughters, and a son.
All seven bodies were found inside a locked car parked on the roadside, outside a house in the residential area.
Panchkula DCP Himadri Kaushik and DCP Law and Order Amit Dahiya immediately reached the location and began an investigation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Panchkula, Himadri Kaushik, said, 'We received information that six people have been brought to Ojas Hospital. When we reached here, we found out that they are all dead. Another person was brought to the Civil Hospital, Sector 6; he has also been declared dead. Prima facie, it looks like a matter of suicide. All the investigating officers are at the spot...All of the deceased are family members...'
The police recovered a suicide note from the car. However, the full contents of the note were not disclosed.
According to the police, the family appeared to be under immense financial pressure, which could have driven them to suicide.
As per the preliminary investigation, the family consumed poison in a suspected case of mass suicide, possibly driven by heavy debt and financial distress.
According to sources, Praveen Mittal, a resident of Dehradun, had travelled to Panchkula with his family to attend a Hanuman Katha program organised by Bageshwar Dham. The event had recently concluded, and the family was reportedly returning to Dehradun when they took the extreme step.
The forensic team has reached the spot and collected samples for investigation.
All seven bodies were sent to the mortuary of the private hospitals in Panchkula.
The postmortem examinations were expected to be conducted to confirm the cause of death and to aid in the ongoing probe.
Further investigation into the matter is underway. (ANI)

Delhi HC grants bail to Sanoj Mishra; victim says she was in relationship, no rape committed
New Delhi [India], May 31 (ANI): Delhi High Court has granted bail to film director Sanoj Kumar Mishra in a rape case after considering the affidavit of the prosecutrix stating that she was living in a relationship with Mishra and had established physical relations with consent. She also stated that she lodged the complaint under the influence of some rivals of Mishra. After considering the affidavit of the prosecutrix, Justice Girish Kathpalia granted bail to Sanoj Kumar Mishra on Friday. Mishra is a director who had offered a role to Mahakumbh sensation Monalisa in his film. He was arrested by the Delhi Police in March 2025. While granting bail, Justice Kathpalia said, 'Considering the above circumstances, I find no reason to deprive liberty to the accused/applicant any further.' 'Therefore, the application is allowed and the accused is directed to be released on bail subject to his furnishing a personal bond in the sum of Rs.10,000 with one surety in the like amount to the satisfaction of the learnt trial court or the area Magistrate or the Duty Magistrate,' Justice Kathpalia ordered on May 30. In view of the affidavit filed by the prosecutrix, the High Court said that this is yet another case reflecting the recent trend of lodging false complaints of sexual offences. 'Every false complaint of sexual offences not just causes immense damage to the person accused of the offence but also creates cynicism and distrust across the society, which leads to even the genuine victims of sexual offences suffering, as society starts suspecting her truthful complaint also to be false. Such false complaints have to be dealt with sternly,' Justice Kathpalia observed in the order. Advocate Amit Chaddha and Aamir Chaudhary, counsel for Mishra, contended that he and the prosecutrix had been in a live-in relationship for a long time, and that too was in Mumbai. They said the offence took place in Orcha. Madhya Pradesh, so Delhi had no jurisdiction, counsel submitted. The complainant in her affidavit stated that she was living in a relationship with Mishra and had established physical relations with him with consent and lodged the complaint under the influence of some rivals of the accused/applicant. In the affidavit she also testified that she has no objection if the accused/applicant is released on bail. In her statement given on 21.05.2025, she stated that the accused never committed rape or any other offence against her and that her relations with the accused were consensual for the past five years. The complainant further alleged in her statement that she lodged a false complaint on being provoked by a few other persons. The SHO Nabi Karim presented during the hearing submitted that he has already initiated the process for registration of an FIR against the complainant and all those persons who conspired to make her lodge a false complaint against Mishra. The SHO also submitted that they intend to file a supplementary chargesheet in this case. The high court directed sending a Copy of this order to the concerned DCP to ensure that appropriate action in accordance with the law is taken. On May 28, the High Court had asked the woman to testify whether the allegations levelled against the accused are truthful or not. A case was registered against him on a complaint filed by a woman who alleged rape. His anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by the court in March. Thereafter, he was arrested by the Delhi Police. His regular bail plea was dismissed by the trial court. Thereafter, he approached the High Court. It was also noted that an affidavit was filed by the prosecutrix in support of his bail application stating that they have arrived at a compromise. (ANI)

Massive fire breaks out in Delhi's Budh Vihar Phase 2, no casualties reported
New Delhi [India], May 31 (ANI): A massive fire was reported at the Sunday Bazar in Budh Vihar Phase 2 of New Delhi, due to which two to four fire tenders rushed to the incident spot, as per the officials. The fire was in 10 to 12 huts in the area, which the fire officials have completely doused. The reason behind the accident is yet to be revealed, and no casualties have been reported. 'Fire at Sunday Bazar road, Budh Vihar phase -2, 4 fire tenders were rushed to the site, Fire was in 10 to 12 huts, now fire is doused, No casualty reported', Delhi Fire Service said in their statement. Further details are awaited. Earlier this week, two people lost their lives and four others were injured in a fire at an E-Rikshaw charging station at Moti Ram Road, in the national capital's Shahdara area. The Delhi Fire Department said they received a call from the e-charging station on Sunday morning reporting a fire at the site. Fire tenders were immediately dispatched to douse the blaze. Two charred bodies were recovered from the spot, and four persons who sustained injuries were rushed to the GTB hospital. The charging station, under a tin shed area of approximately 400 square yards, was completely damaged. (ANI)

Security forces engage in encounter with Maoists in Jharkhand's Jhariakela
The security forces engaged in an encounter with members of the banned Maoist organisation CPI (Maoist) at around 12 p.m. on May 30. The encounter occurred in the hilly/forest areas of Vangram Tirilposi under Jhariakela Police Station in Jharkhand, a press release said. During the encounter, seeing the security forces gaining an upper hand, the Maoists fled from the incident spot by taking advantage of the forests and mountains. Explosives and other daily-use items were recovered and seized by the security forces during the search operation. Recently, the Indian forces conducted a major anti-Maoist operation in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur, eliminating 27 Maoists, which included top commander Basavaraju. Basavaraju, the general secretary of CPI (Maoist), has been involved in Maoist activities for the past 40-45 years and has been involved in more than 200 Maoist activities. Meanwhile, Maoist activity in Bastar and many regions of India has 'reduced significantly' as a result of carrying out operations against the banned and 'illegal' CPI-M outfit, a police official said on Wednesday (May 28, 2025). Inspector General (IG) of police, Bastar, P. Sundarraj told ANI, 'As a result of carrying out operations against the banned and illegal CPI-M outfit, Maoist activity in Bastar and many regions of India has reduced significantly... 4 districts of Bastar sub-division, Bijapur, Sukma, Narayanpur, and Kanker were identified as the most affected LWE districts... 6 districts of Chhattisgarh, including Bastar, Dhamtari, and Rajnandgaon, will be specially monitored by us for any kind of resurgence'. The IG stated that most of the districts in Chhattisgarh are seeing a drop in Maoist activity. 'In the country, only 18 districts are Maoist-affected, and 28 districts are included in the list of districts of maximum thrust... District of maximum thrust means that Maoist activity in the district has reduced to a great extent, but strict observations are still required... Most of the districts in Chhattisgarh are seeing a drop in maoist activity...,' he said.
