Kamal Hassan reschedules Thug Life audio launch amid rising tensions between India and Pak: ‘Art can wait, India comes first'
Actor Kamal Hassan has announced that the audio launch event of his film Thug Life will be rescheduled amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Thug Life, an upcoming Tamil gangster action drama, directed by Mani Ratnam, which has its script co-written by him and actor Kamal Haasan, is one of the most awaited films of the star. The film team had planned the audio launch of Thug Life on May 16, but it is being rescheduled for now.
Kamal Hassan's production house, Raaj Kamal Films International, shared a statement that read, 'Art can wait. India comes first. In view of the developments at our nation's border and the current state of heightened alert, we have decided to reschedule the audio launch of Thug Life, originally planned for the 16th of May.'
It read further, 'As our soldiers stand firm on the frontlines with unflinching courage in defence of our motherland, I believe it is a time for quiet solidarity, not celebration. A new date will be announced at a later, more appropriate time. At this time, our thoughts are with the brave men and women of our armed forces who stand vigilant, safeguarding our nation. As citizens, it is our duty to respond with restraint and solidarity. Celebration must make way for reflection. — Kamal Haasan,' concluded the statement.

Blake Lively WITHDRAWS 'emotional distress' claims against Justin Baldoni in 'It Ends With Us' legal battle
Blake Lively has formally withdrawn two claims against actor and director Justin Baldoni in their ongoing legal battle following their collaboration on the 2024 romantic drama It Ends With Us. The withdrawn claims specifically related to allegations of "emotional distress", in the actress' lawsuit against her director filed in December 2024. According to Variety, Judge Lewis Liman, who is overseeing the case in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, confirmed that Lively's claims for emotional distress would be thrown out. The judge noted that the withdrawal was based on 'the plaintiff's representation that the relevant claims will be withdrawn,' and as a result, the director's motion to compel Lively to release her medical and therapy records was denied. Lively initially filed a lawsuit, accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and orchestrating a public smear campaign. In response, Baldoni's team moved to access Lively's mental health records, arguing that such evidence was essential to counter her claims of 'severe emotional distress and pain, humiliation, embarrassment, belittlement, frustration and mental anguish'. However, the court noted that without the emotional distress claims, those records were no longer relevant. Judge Liman instructed both parties to decide whether the dismissal of these claims would be permanent (with prejudice) or temporary (without prejudice), and offered the actress the opportunity to choose to try to reach an agreement with Baldoni. If no formal dismissal is made, Lively will be barred from introducing any related evidence. Lively's attorneys, Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, criticised Baldoni's legal team for their approach which they claim is 'a press stunt'. In a statement to the media, her lawyers said, 'Ms. Lively has offered to dismiss those claims because they are no longer necessary and she will continue to pursue emotional distress damages through other active claims in her lawsuit, including sexual harassment and retaliation. ' Meanwhile, Baldoni is suing both Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds for $400 million. He alleges the actress attempted to extort him and later defamed him through statements published in The New York Times. The legal battle now involves six separate lawsuits in various courts. A controversy that could well have been avoided
For reasons fair or foul, there have been many skirmishes and flashpoints between the two states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over nearly seven decades since both were carved out as independent states. While justifications from both sides abound for each of the incidents that stirred passions, created riotous situations and severely created law and order problems in both the neighbouring zones, there seems to be no stopping fresh troubles that seem to be breaking out ad nauseam. Ever since Tamil top star Kamal Haasan, known for his typical intellectual surmises on all things under the sun said 'Kannada is born out of Tamil' at a function in Chennai, it set off a furore in Karnataka. Like a typical cinema narrative, the usual villains did the usual things and kept the political temperature up. The hero, however, much like the film 'Thug Life' in which he is seen endorsing in many parts of the world, refused to accept that he had overstepped in this case and could have well been discreet with such matters in public domain. Quite clearly, all the players in this drama know that Haasan is using the oldest trick in the book of any publicity being good publicity in the cinema circles. With Tamil cinema market being the biggest across south India, with almost all states running its films in many prominent cities of the peninsula, it is incomprehensible why the Chennai actor refused to see reason. The latest is that the film is not likely to get a release in Karnataka, the biggest market after Tamil Nadu. Haasan has informed the High Court that he would not release his film on the earlier announced date for his Kannada fans to watch him in action. Interestingly, what Judge Nagaprasanna said, while adjourning the case, deserves mention. As a news agency report wrote: 'The judge further questioned Haasan's authority to make such claims, asking, 'Are you a historian or a linguist to make such a statement? No language is born out of another.' He added, 'A single apology could have resolved the situation.' Justice Nagaprasanna stressed the importance of respecting cultural sensitivities and remarked, 'Water, land, and language — Jala, Nela, Bashe — are sacred to the people'. Adding further, the judge had pointed out that an illustrious person like C. Rajagopalachari had issued a similar statement in 1950 about the origins of the Kannada language and later apologised following protests, even though there was no commercial motive. 'If such a big person can apologise, and a similar statement has been issued after 75 years, and there is a commercial motive...' the court observed. Surely, the matter is not going to end here. If Haasan has won the battle for the moment, by the time the case comes up for hearing again a week from now, the public would know who has won the war. Not to be missed is the cool-headed handling of the controversy by the Congress government, which has flayed the hero for his observations, but in an even-tempered tone kept the socio- political pot from boiling over. After all, there is a hyperactive BJP waiting and watching.
