Cadillac boss expects rivals to be ‘apoplectic' if they lose to F1's newest team
Cadillac's long-anticipated entry for 2026 was finally rubber-stamped in March providing them with a year to get ready for next season's opener in Australia.
Cadillac, a division of American motoring giant General Motors, will be supported by TWG Motorsports and powered by Ferrari before it develops its own engines.

They will become the first new constructor in a decade with one of four bases at Silverstone – the venue for this weekend's British Grand Prix – as well as Indiana, North Carolina and Michigan in the United States.
But despite the heavyweight backing of GM, British team principal Lowdon warned: 'We have had discussions with our shareholders about what expectations should be, and the easiest way I can describe it to them is, can you imagine if you have owned a Formula One team for 10 years and another team rocks up and beats you? You would be apoplectic, so annoyed, so you have to assume that any new team coming in is going to be last, otherwise what has gone wrong somewhere else?
'We want to be as competitive as we can but we have to be realistic, too. We see the numbers and we are happy with our progress. But we don't know where we will be other than if we beat someone, then they are going to be angry.
'There is no real magic to Formula One. It is just very, very difficult. The reason it is so difficult is because everyone is doing the same thing on the same day, and that is something that TWG and GM fully understand. We are partnering with a manufacturer that understands racing. You just tell them the truth.'

Cadillac's arrival as the 11th team on the grid will open up two driver vacancies. Valtteri Bottas, Lewis Hamilton's former wingman, is understood to be interested in a return to a full-time seat (he is currently reserve driver at Mercedes) in F1.
Sergio Perez, dropped by Red Bull at the end of last year, and former Formula Two champion Felipe Drugovich, have also been linked. Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu, who raced with Alfa Romeo and Sauber across three seasons, is another in the frame.
But Lowdon continued: 'Nothing is decided yet. There is a very strong argument to say that a new team in its first year of racing would benefit hugely from drivers who are experienced.
'We know who is in the market, and we have got a good idea of what we need, but we are some way off reaching that stage of finalising our line-up.'

'I'm really happy to be playing with him… we're just good friends,' she said. That didn't stop Kyrgios from stirring the pot this week, cheekily telling listeners: 'I don't know, I think it's a love triangle! Draper, Alcaraz, Raducanu. They're fighting over Raducanu I think, I'm not sure.' Referring to Emma's smiley Wimbledon appearances, he added: 'I think the outside [she looks happy]. I don't know who's making her happy. The tennis world loves a love story, they love to try and put two [players] together. But Emma is number one British female player at the moment, she's doing fairly well. 'Obviously, winning a grand slam at 19 is never easy, it comes with a lot of expectations from the outside world. But, you know, as long as she's happy." Earlier this week, Emma kicked off her Wimbledon 2025 campaign with a solid 6-3 6-3 win over fellow Brit Mimi Xu. She's now set to face reigning 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova in the next round. During a pre-Wimbledon press conference, Emma once again dismissed the swirling romance rumours with a laugh. Carlos Alcaraz edged a five-set thriller to beat Fabio Fognini in the first round of the men's singles at Wimbledon, as the Spaniard began his title defence with a classic on Centre Court Defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz sent a classy message to opponent Fabio Fognini after the pair's epic five-set match on Monday. Alcaraz, 22, narrowly beat 38-year-old Fognini on Centre Court as the Italian put up a tremendous fight against the 2025 favourite, who's aiming to make it three Wimbledon men's singles titles in a row. Fognini, a nine-time ATP singles champion, made it clear ahead of his visit to the All England Club that this is his final season. And the veteran went out with his head held high, winning the second and fourth sets against Alcaraz, who had some kind words for him. The Spaniard was spotted talking to Fognini after the end of their thrilling contest and in his press post-match conference, Alcaraz was asked to reveal what was said. "I just told him that I have big respect to him," the two-time Wimbledon champion replied. "He's the best. Yeah, I have a big respect to him. Everything that he has done in his career, what he has done today. I love watching him play. "I'm just glad to have shared the court once again with him, that I have shared the locker rooms, the tournament with him. Just amazing. Just have big respect to him." On X, formerly Twitter, Alcaraz added: "38 years old? Congratulations on the incredible match! It was an honor to share this battle at Wimbledon with you!" The Spanish superstar always anticipated a difficult match, telling reporters: "I knew at the beginning that it was going to be really difficult playing against Fabio. Play resumed after the chair umpire consulted security personnel, but it was unclear if any action was taken against them. It is understood that the spectator was not carrying a knife and would have been searched for weapons by ground security when entering.
