Chargers G.M. Joe Hortiz: We'll see what we have at receiver before any potential addition
The Chargers brought Mike Williams back as a free agent this offseason and they drafted Tre Brown in the second round, but General Manager Joe Hortiz may not be done adding receivers to the roster ahead of the 2025 season.
Hortiz, who also drafted KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the fifth round, was a guest on Up & Adams this week and he was asked if the team was still looking to bolster the wideout group this offseason. He said that the team will go through rookie minicamp and organized team activities before making any decisions.
'I think we're going to see what we have out there this weekend and through OTAs, but I'd never say we're done adding anything,' Hortiz said. 'Any chance we can get — if we need the help, if we can help improve the team and the competitiveness of the team and competition at the position.'
Host Kay Adams brought up former Charger Keenan Allen being a free agent later in the appearance, but Hortiz didn't give any signal that there's interest in teaming him up with Williams once again.

Lindor healing from broken toe and could be lineup for Mets this weekend, Manaea makes rehab start
DENVER (AP) — Shortstop Francisco Lindor's broken toe is healing fast enough that he may soon be back in the lineup for the New York Mets. Possibly even this weekend. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said before Friday's game against Colorado that Lindor did some running and went through some drills in the cage. He might even have some type of availability Friday, Mendoza added. Lindor's right pinky toe was broken by a pitch from Dodgers right-hander Tony Gonsolin in the first inning on Wednesday. He sat out Thursday. 'I feel a little bit better today than how I felt yesterday,' Mendoza said about Lindor's availability against last-place Colorado. 'I thought maybe even the full series. But watching him today, talking to him, I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the lineup (Saturday) or the next day.' Ronny Mauricio filled in for Lindor at shortstop against the Rockies on Friday, while Brandon Nimmo was in the leadoff spot. Lindor is hitting .279 with 14 homers and 36 RBIs this season. He finished runner-up to Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani in the NL MVP race last season. In Wilmington, Delaware, Mets lefty Sean Manaea made a rehab start for High-A Brooklyn against the Blue Rocks. He threw 36 pitches — 26 strikes — over 1 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs. Manaea, who has been sidelined all season by an oblique injury, struck out two and didn't walk a batter. The 33-year-old Manaea re-signed as a free agent with the Mets for $75 million over three years . He went 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA in 32 starts last season. ___ AP MLB:

Advertisement What's the one trade you want to see by the time training camp rolls around? I want to see Trey Hendrickson get traded because I don't think he is going to get paid by the Cincinnati Bengals. So I'd like to see him get traded and, uh, of course, I, he's got to go to a contender. This probably wouldn't happen because it's within the same conference, but I'd like to see him get traded to the Los Angeles Chargers because they're sitting on just over $26 million in cap space right now. So they've got enough to fit the first year of a big pass rusher contract extension. The Chargers had a lot. lot of needs coming into the offseason and they do have some questions along the interior offensive line. Advertisement That's still outstanding. But the other big need that I don't think they really satisfied this year was getting more juice, uh, in terms of their pass rush. They brought back Kul Mack. That's nice. He's had, he had a pretty good season for them last year, but they did wave goodbye to Joey Bosa, and I don't think they have someone just waiting in the wings there that can fill that. So, um, I do think that's a trade I'd like to see whether it's gonna happen or not. Uh, I don't say I have like all the little compensation notes for you, but I'd love to see that one get done. Hendrickson and Khalil Mack is like perfect as far as like synergizing two edge players. Advertisement Khalil Mack is just, I mean, just a badass on rundown. It's really good against the run, still a good sack guy. You have the passer, but then you get a guy that's a true more finesse guy, and Hendrickson that you have to passer. That's the perfect little pairing. So I, I really like this one. I'm not. Um, really wasn't even came to mind maybe for Hendrickson. I've, I've been kind of just see kicking around some of the teams that have cap space, but Charles, any thoughts on this one? Yeah, it makes it makes a lot of sense, um. It's just, it's just, uh, it's probably because the Chargers like you're in a spot where you, you probably need a lot of help if you're actually going to go out there and compete for the AFC title, but your quarterback is so good that it's going to be difficult to add, uh, the help that you need. Advertisement So I think getting someone that uh that already has NFL pedigree, like Trey Hendrickson, he's only 30, so you can still get a couple more years out of him maybe before he hits the wall. I think this makes makes a lot of good sense to add him to the roster.

The Buffalo Sabres hiring of former Columbus GM Jarmo Kekalainen as a senior advisor was an essential move to add an experienced hockey executive to their management staff, something that has been lacking for the balance of the time that owner Terry Pegula bought the club in 2011. With the club missing the playoffs for the 14th straight season, it is expected that Sabres GM Kevyn Adams is going to make a series of moves involving some of the club's young core pieces and the addition of Kekalainen represents some insurance that Adams goes in the right direction. In goal, the club has to sign youngster Devon Levi to a new contract coming off his entry-level deal, but after a strong second-half in 2023-24 that earned him a five-year extension, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen struggled as the full time starter last season. Do the Sabres choose to deal Luukkonen with a lack of starters in free agency or the trade market? Do they trust Levi to take the reins after playing well in the AHL but struggling at the NHL level the last two years? Advertisement On defense, the future of Bowen Byram seems to be leaving Buffalo in favor of a destination where he can be a top pairing blueliner, but Adams must bring back NHL-ready talent in a deal for the 23-year-old, preferably a defenseman of comparable age that can partner with Rasmus Dahlin or Owen Power. There are also questions of the future of Mattias Samuelsson, who continues to struggle with injury and inconsistency. Up front, Adams must deal with the restricted free agency of winger JJ Peterka and the persistent rumors that he would prefer to play elsewhere. The offer sheet option may not be as big a threat to the Sabres as some might think, since Buffalo has ample cap space to match one and that would lock Peterka in a place that he reportedly does not want to play. If Buffalo cannot get the 23-year-old signed, a deal involving Peterka as with Byram, has to bring back NHL talent that can play with the Sabres this season. All these dilemmas are critical to the immediate future of the club and their success or failure will determine whether they will have a chance of making the postseason or extending their playoff drought to 15 years.
