Dua Lipa surprises fans as she covers pop classic 99 Luftballoons in ‘perfect' German

News.com.au6 days ago

Dua Lipa proved that her infamous holidaying has paid off after she pulled off an impressive live stunt for her German fans during one of her latest shows.
For every one of the stops on her Radical Optimism Tour, Lipa has been performing a cover of a song tied to that location, with her covering tracks from the likes of Enrique Iglesias and Daft Punk.
When she was wowing crowds in Australia she performed a whole host of pop classics from Aussie faves like Kylie Minogue and INXS.
But she looking like she'd even impressed herself after coming to the end of her latest cover, a pitch-perfect cover of German pop banger 99 Luftballoons.
Videos of the moment have since gone viral on TikTok, with fans sharing their surprise at how well Lipa sung in German.
'I'm German and there wasn't a single pronunciation mistake,' remarked on fan on one of the viral TikTok videos of the moment from Lipa's sellout show.
'The German version is the best version, Dua Lipa knows!' commented a second, with another adding: 'No but that's actually so impressive'.
Lipa celebrated the end of her eight-show sold out run in Australia last month with a laid back relax at Coogee Beach. She made sure to find the time to enjoy the sights having been spotted days earlier at Tamarama Beach, and also at Taronga Zoo.
Her shows Down Under proved to be a major success for the singer, who made sure to invite some of her showbiz pals up on stage with her to entertain the crowds, including Troye Sivan and Vance Joy.
Sadly for fans, Lipa's hunky Hollywood actor boyfriend, Callum Masters, was nowhere to be seen while she dazzled fans. Instead, she has brought her younger brother Gijin along for the trip.
Lipa and Turner were first linked in January last year after the Houdini singer attended the premiere of the Apple TV+ show Masters of Air, in which Turner starred alongside Austin Butler and Barry Keoghan.

‘Genius': Aussie's Uber Eats hack to score free food goes viral

A woman claims to have 'cracked the code' to scoring free food when ordering Uber Eats, saying that all it takes is a little kindness. Taking to TikTok, content creator Emma Kate Boyd explained, 'All you have to do is write something really nice in the caption' when using the food delivery app. When ordering Vietnamese takeaway from Melbourne restaurant Miss Chu recently, she wrote 'I f**king love Miss Chu' in the order notes of the app. 'They gave me a free dessert,' she said proudly, holding up a container of chocolate pudding. 'It really is that simple – spread a little love, get a little love.' reached out to Uber Eats for comment, and while they couldn't quantify how often restaurants give out free items, it's understood that this does happen across the platform. Ms Boyd's video quickly went viral, racking up over 40,000 views, as users shared their own experiences trying this. 'I wrote a cute note once and they refunded my whole order,' said one user. 'I did that and they just put hearts on my items,' wrote another. Meanwhile, some argued that she shouldn't have shared this information publicly, as now everyone will do it and restaurants will catch on. 'Don't tell people this!' said one. However, others claimed it hasn't worked for them. 'I've done this for every order for five years and never got anything free,' they said. 'Most people just hate kindness, sadly'. It comes after a woman went viral last month for sharing a nifty way she got larger portions of takeaway food – and it came down to channelling your inner man. Emily Lemus claimed that using a man's name when ordering might lead to more generous portions – because workers assume they have bigger appetites. She seemingly 'proved' her theory by ordering identical meals from Chipotle, one with a man's name and one with a woman's, and then weighed them to see which one was larger. Every time she conducted the experiment, the man's order was slightly heavier. In the same month, a delivery driver also shared his tricks and tips for ordering from places like UberEats. 'You don't need to scam anyone or lie about your order,' he explained online. He said customers need to join restaurants' loyalty schemes that sometimes offer first-time customers free food. Additionally, he explained, 'Honestly, if you've got a birthday, you've got free food. Some people use this every year like clockwork'.

‘Lovely man': Suburban Melbourne community rallies around local lollipop guard

An outer Melbourne community has rallied in support of a beloved local crossing guard, after he was told by the council his post would be reassigned due to recent road upgrades in the area. Steve Price has been a crossing guard at the Montrose pedestrian crossing in Melbourne's eastern fringes for eight years and is described by members of the community as 'everybody's grandpa' and a 'lovely man' who 'makes every morning a wonderful experience'. But some in the community claim he has been reassigned due to Mr Price 'putting in too many complaints and raising too many safety issues (on behalf of) the kids in the area.' Last week, a petition was launched on aimed at reinstating Mr Price to his position. In the petition Mr Price says he 'was told the council would be taking over the crossing, (another guard) was coming to mine and the other supervisor from Mt Dandenong Rd would be taking over (the other guard's) crossing in Montrose road. I will be going somewhere else.' A spokesman for Yarra Ranges Council said that many of the council's school crossing supervisors are contracted through Hoban Recruitment but are done so on a 'term-to-term basis'. 'Before each school term, Council provides Hoban with a list of school crossing sites that need a supervisor. These locations can change each term, so the assignments are never permanent and are on a term-to-term basis as per their Hoban contract. 'Due to the recent upgraded road and pedestrian safety works at the Montrose intersection, it has meant that only one supervisor is now required at that location, rather than two.' It's an explanation petition starter and parent at the school Sigrid Peterson doesn't buy. 'They decided to move our favourite lollipop man who had been there for eight years because he – I think, he thinks it as well – put too many complaints and raised too many safety issues in the area that he works in for the kids' safety. 'The crossing isn't long enough.
The bus stop is really close to a main road. There's a lot of kids that sit there … 'He's been too hard, so they've moved him on. He would love to chat, but he also doesn't want to get in trouble from his employer.' Ms Peterson added '(Steve's) lovely.
He's like everybody's grandpa. He knows most of the kids' names, everybody gives him gifts at Christmas time'.
'I posted it everywhere on all the notice boards and people that had moved from the area said how much they missed him.' Ms Peterson expressed disappointment in the Council's response or lack thereof. 'They haven't responded to it, I emailed the petition to them and to his employer as well, neither of them have responded to me.
They've been pretty useless throughout the roadworks, not supporting the affected businesses either. 'I think they just wanted him moved on because he was complaining too much about the roadworks and the safety. 'He's been there for eight years. It's just very, very convenient timing.' Another parent, Ashleigh from Bayswater, commented on the petition that Mr Price 'makes every morning a wonderful experience for myself and my children'. 'Mostly we drive past and a few times will cross the road with him. Whatever our day looks like it always starts and ends with a smiley happy most respectful person. 'Steve is just apart of Montrose we just know him he's apart of our daily lives and it's just not the same without him around. Our mornings are less happy without him. Please bring Steve back to where he belongs.' Marina 'I drive past every morning on my way to work and even though I never met him it was very obvious how much he loved his job and the people around him. Always smiling and always chatting to the parents and children. It's sad to hear this being taken away from someone and forcing changes onto a person who was clearly happy with his job, it's location and has made strong connections. Can't even imagine how devastated this man must be or the children and parents of children who attend the school. Another example of a council making decisions on its own and disregarding the opinions of those who feel the effects the most. Hoping this gets overturned.' At the time of writing the petition currently has 336 signatures.
