Traffic Advisory: Overnight closures begin for Kirkman expansion project
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) advises drivers of overnight closures on Interstate 4 (I-4) between Kirkman Road (S.R. 435) and S.R. 528 (Beachline Expressway) from Sunday, June 8, to Thursday, June 12.
Closures start at 10 p.m. each night and reopen by 6 a.m. the next morning, with the final closure on Friday, June 13.
Detour Information for June 8 to 10 Overnight Closures
Motorists traveling west on I-4 who wish to access S.R. 528 will be directed to exit early at Exit 75B to southbound Kirkman Road, then continue to the Sand Lake Road (S.R. 482) ramp, staying in the left lane and turning left onto Sand Lake Road at the traffic signal, heading east to John Young Parkway (S.R. 423). Motorists will then turn right onto John Young Parkway, proceeding south to S.R. 528.
Detour Information for June 11 and 12 Overnight Closures
Motorists traveling west on I-4 will be directed to take Exit 75B to southbound Kirkman Road, then continue to the Sand Lake Road ramp, staying in the left lane and turning left onto Sand Lake Road at the traffic signal, heading east to John Young Parkway. Motorists will then turn right onto John Young Parkway, proceeding south to S.R. 528. From there, drivers who wish to return to I-4 will continue west to the end of S.R. 528 and take the ramp to westbound I-4.
Motorists traveling east on Sand Lake Road who wish to access westbound I-4 will turn right onto southbound Turkey Lake Road and proceed to Central Florida Parkway. From there, motorists will turn left onto eastbound Central Florida Parkway and take the first right onto the westbound I-4 entrance ramp.
FDOT recommends that drivers follow all posted detour signs. Please note that construction schedules may change due to weather or unexpected circumstances.

Denny Hamlin wins at Michigan for his 3rd NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season
BROOKLYN, Mich. — Denny Hamlin is pulling off quite a juggling act. Hamlin outlasted the competition at Michigan International Speedway for his third NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season and 57th of his career, juggling his roles as a driver, expectant father and co-owner of a racing team that's suing NASCAR. 'The tackle box is full,' Hamlin said Sunday. 'There's all kinds of stuff going on.' Hamlin, in the No. 11 Toyota, went low to pass William Byron on the 197th of 200 laps and pulled away from the pack to win by more than a second over Chris Buescher. 'Just worked over the guys one by one, giving them different looks,' he said. Ty Gibbs finished third, matching a season best, followed by Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson. The 44-year-old Hamlin was prepared to leave his team to join his fiancée, Jordan Fish, who is due to give birth to their third child, a boy. If she was in labor by Lap 50 or sooner at Michigan, he was prepared to leave the track. Hamlin said he would skip next week's race in Mexico City if necessary to witness the birth. To add something else to Hamlin's plate, he is also co-owner of 23XI Racing with Michael Jordan, which is involved in a lawsuit against NASCAR. He drives for Joe Gibbs Racing, which hadn't won at Michigan in a decade. 'I think it's the most underrated track that we go to,' said Hamlin, who has won three times on the 2-mile oval. Hamlin became JGR's winningest driver, surpassing Kyle Busch's 56 victories, and the 10th driver in NASCAR history to win after his 700th start. 'It feels good because I'm going to hate it when I'm not at the level I'm at now,' he said. 'I will certainly retire very quicky after that.' Hamlin's team set him up with enough fuel to win while many drivers, including Byron, ran out of gas late in the race. 'It really stings,' said Byron, the points leader, who was a season-worst 28th. 'We just burned more (fuel) and not able to do much about that.' Hamlin, meanwhile, wasn't on empty until his celebratory burnout was cut short. Pole-sitter Chase Briscoe was out front until Byron passed him on Lap 12. Buescher pulled ahead on Lap 36 and stayed up front to win his first stage this season. Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott took turns with the lead before a crash involving Alex Bowman brought out the red flag on Lap 67. Byron took the lead again after a restart on Lap 78 as part of his strong start and surged to the front again to win the second stage. Carson Hocevar took the lead on Lap 152 and was informed soon thereafter that he didn't have enough fuel to finish, but that became moot because a flat tire forced him into the pits with 18 laps to go. Hocevar faded to a 29th-place finish, a week after he was second to match a career best at Nashville, where he created a buzz with an aggressive move that knocked Ricky Stenhouse Jr. out of the race. Bowman hit a wall with the front end of his No. 48 Chevrolet as part of a multi-car crash in his latest setback. 'That hurt a lot,' he said after passing a medical evaluation. 'That was probably top of the board on hits I've taken.' Bowman, who drives for Hendrick Motorsports, came to Michigan 12th in points and will leave lower in the standings. He has finished 27th or worse in seven of his last nine starts and didn't finish for a third time during the tough stretch. Defending race champion Tyler Reddick qualified 12th, but started last in the 36-car field because of unapproved adjustments and rallied to finish 13th. Drivers and passengers react to new ‘Paul Miller Law' effective last week
BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Drivers and some passengers are sharing their thoughts on the newest law in Pennsylvania, the Paul Miller Law. Signed by Governor Josh Shapiro last year, the new hands-free law bans hand-held cell phone use while driving and increases transparency and accountability at traffic stops. It went into effect on Thursday, June 5. The law is named after Paul Miller Jr., a 21 year-old killed after a tractor-trailer driver who was reaching for his cell phone lost control and crashed head-on into Miller's car. 'It takes five seconds to crash and it's a split hot second,' Driver Jeanette Swabley said. Paul Miller's Law also makes it illegal to use a cell phone even while stopped temporarily because of traffic or a red light. Swabley also works as an LPN in an emergency room. She encourages her children and herself not to use phones while driving. 'I see what happens when you are a distracted driver and have an accident. So I would rather not see you there. So please stay off your phones,' Swabley said. Aubree Bloom is working on getting her permit, so she can learn how to drive. Although she's not on the road yet, she thinks the law is a good idea, and drivers should ask the passenger to communicate for them. 'I feel like that people who are distracted by their phones have a better chance of getting involved in a crash, and like, you might they might get in an injury or maybe even death,' Bloom said. According to PennDOT data, in 2024, there were 9,950 crashes involving a distracted driver, resulting in more than 6,000 injuries and 49 fatalities. Savannah Metz rides in the passenger seat. She admits she's traveled in a car where someone has been distracted by their phone, but says it hasn't affected her. 'I think personally that it's okay because, like, what if you get a call and it's an emergency, and especially being like the parent of a child, I want to know if something's going on with my baby,' Metz said. The law allows some exceptions for drivers, such as calling 911 to report an emergency or if a driver pairs their cell phone to Bluetooth or CarPlay. Drivers can also use their devices if the vehicle is safely pulled off the road and not moving. Written warnings will be issued to drivers until June 5, 2026. Waxdahl wins big at I-90 Speedway
HARTFORD, S.D. (KELO) — Four 'A' Feature races were run on Saturday at I-90 Speedway, with Dylan Waxdahl claiming the $1,000 prize. Dustin Gulbranson opened the evening by winning the Hobby Stock Feature. Tyler Johnson followed suit with a victory in the B Mods. The Late Model Street Stocks saw a strong showing by Tracy Halouska who claimed first place. The big prize was given to the Race Saver Sprint winner and that was Hartford's Dylan Waxdahl.
