Jordan suspends flights to Mitiga Airport in Tripoli
Ammon News - Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, CEO of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority (CARC), Captain Haitham Misto, announced on Thursday that Jordanian airlines' flights to Mitiga Airport in Tripoli have been suspended until further notice.
The decision was made to preserve the safety and security of Jordanian airlines, Misto added.
Misto explained that the decision was taken a few days ago, coinciding with the outbreak of security events in Tripoli, noting that Libyan flights from Mitiga Airport to Jordan were also suspended for the same reasons.
The suspension depends on developments and ongoing evaluation, Misto noted, indicating that flights will resume when the situation is within the acceptable framework for civil aviation safety and security.
Jordanian flights to Benghazi's Benina International Airport are operating and have not stopped, he added, noting that Jordan operates three flights to Tripoli's Mitiga Airport per week, while it operates one cargo flight to the same airport per week.
Tripoli is witnessing a security escalation, marked by the outbreak of violent armed clashes in the city center between forces loyal to the Government of National Unity and the Deterrence Force. This has led to the declaration of a state of emergency, the suspension of classes and exams, and the diversion of flights from Mitiga Airport to Misrata Airport.
